Remarks :
Atmosphere in IIT Guwahati is excellent . One can use his/her time in a useful way as so many facilities from studying to playing ,swimming and everything is there in the IIT Guwahati campus. Some points which I want to mention as negative remarks from my side is that placement for Mtech specially for civil engineering branch is not that much as it should be.
Course Curriculum Overview :
The course curriculum was in advance level as compare to Graduation but basic of the course was similar to graduation. You can relate most of the subjects from practical point of view in field observation. Exam structure was like class test , mid SEM and end SEM. Exam structure also depends on professors also as some professors used to take quizs whose marks may or may not be included in final marks depends on professors choice.
Placement Experience :
Placements & job opportunities for M.tech students are not that much specially for Water Resources Specialisation . Yes College provides internship for other students . The stipend provided to Mtech student in our time was 12400 INR.
College Events :
Various events used to be celebrated in IIT Guwahati like Alcheringa,Technique,adavya,etc. The cultural fest like Alcheringa used to celebrate in January or February every year. Many celebrities used to come to make to make this event successful and students used to enjoy alot.
Fee Structure And Facilities :
Fee structure was feasible in our time but not now. During our session 2017-2019, fee was around 98-99K including your hostel fee,mess fee, tution fee and all for two years which Is four semesters for Mtech . Now the fee structure is drastically increased by the Government of India for Mtech students and stipend also stopped from next session which is in 2020.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
IIT Guwahati have state bank branch and Canara bank inside the institute. They used to help the students by providing loan on less interest . Any needy students can use this facility whenever he wants to use it.
Campus Life :
Many students used to do So many extracurricular activities. Every facility is there for students for playing cricket , football, hockey,badminton,basketball etc. Indoor and outdoor games are there in the campus. Labs are in excellent condition. You can learn as much as you can because almost every instruments are there in lab.
Hostel Facilities :
I was residing in Lohit hostel. My hostel was one of the best hostel and it was the biggest hostel of the IIT Guwahati . It can accomodate around 1500 students.all rooms were so good. Single Rooms were provided for every students irrespective of Course whether he is a BTech,Mtech or PhD student . LAN connection were there in each room.
Alumni/Alumna :
Alumni network with the new students are there in IIT Guwahati . Senior students were very helpful and supportive. You can feel free to contact them whenever you need them. Seniors used to provide notes and all and they used to support there juniors in every aspects.they were so open and frank with us.
Admission :
I passed GATE 2017 exam which was conducted by Various IIT's. I filled various IIT's application for getting admission in Mtech but later I got the mail from IIT Guwahati for appearing in spot Round admission in M.Tech through Gate score. I got Water Resources Engineering specialisation in Mtech from Civil engineering IIT Guwahati.
Faculty :
Faculty of my college were experienced but in my opinion, some of faculties really don't know how to explain the things to make student understand. Some faculties used to teach by slides/Presentation and if suppose computer is not working then He is unable to teach nicely. Overall according to me, except few professors most of them don't want to teach nicely. Having knowledge and teaching nicely is two different things .
