Scholars Institute of Technology and Management

Being the part of Scholars Institute of Management and Technology, what are your roles and responsibilities towards the students?

I am responsible for dealing with the students properly. I need to make them understand the domain, its relevance to the real world, and its implementations. My job is to help them get acquainted with the subjects from the first day onwards, irrespective of the subjects' complexity of understanding.

What valuable advice would you like to the students for them to have a prosperous career ahead?

I would advise students to be focused. Have the courage to learn and question. Remember to be curious to learn new things. Gain knowledge and explore all the possible opportunities around you.

What do you see as the department’s greatest strengths and how it can be enhanced?

The Civil Engineering department makes the students learn about the foundation, structure and entire process of construction of structures. We make sure to pay attention to the environment in the most scientific and mathematical way possible. As civil engineering is a dynamic branch and carries out various branches such as structural, transportation, construction management, and geotechnical, a wide range of both theoretical knowledge and practical exposure is given to give the students a better understanding of the courses and the differences between the streams.

How does the curriculum of Scholar's Institute of Management and Technology ensure the best practice of the industry?

The curriculum has been designed with a specific focus on the learning of concepts properly and implementing them with relevance to real-world problems. Proper labs have been set up for the students to learn the architecture of the domain and implement it in the field. Regular assignments and case-based projects are also assigned to students to get an overview of their understanding of the topic.

When you came to the Institute, what was your vision and how are you trying to achieve the same?

To be a good mentor and guide the students in their 4-year journey both academically and professionally. I am achieving it through proper discussion of regular academic activities, participation in academic competitions and guidance in their domain courses. I focus on practically making them comprehend the topic of study.

What are the challenges you faced/ are facing to uplift the quality of education of your Institution?

Staying updated with the recent advancements in technology and research is a challenging task. We need to coordinate with a lot of industry experts and professionals to update our curriculum. We are trying our best to bridge the challenge and keep them updated.

Do you have any extracurricular activities/ programs to enhance the skills of the students or expose them to real world challenges?

We focus on inviting resource persons and arranging hands-on training in technologies required in the domain and extracurricular activities. We wish to make the students experience the challenges relevant to the real work. Skill development classes, workshops, industrial visits and training are organized under the “UTKARSH- School of Skilling”. Apart from this different cultural activities, technical fest, and sports competitions at the inter-school level and inter-college level are being organized each year. This helps to motivate the students and upgrade their skills in academics, professional and extra-curricular activities.

How do you help your student to cope up with the competition being so high in the outside world?

Academic and social domain specific internship programs and hands-on training are organised to help the students understand the dynamics of industries in the outside world. These would give them a real-world scenario of the industries and current technologies and how their curriculum is acquainted with the current trends.

What are your views upon the placements and higher education about the students from your institution or how does the institution prepare students for Higher education?

Our institute’s curriculum is well set to guide the students to be ready for different industries, ranging from government to the corporate sector. Skill development, technical sessions, communication classes, and mock drives are being organised for the students to make them industry-ready.

How do you strategize the curriculum and how often it gets updated to make it befitting for the students?

By especially emphasising the gap between the existing skill and the required skill in the industries. The university verifies the curriculum annually and modifies it as per requirements. In order to benefit the students, in each semester, MOOC courses are also implemented with the regular curriculum as per the learning outcomes, program outcomes and mission of the particular department.

What are the best practices offered by the department to the students which help them gain necessary skills?

We try to emphasise hands-on skill development through different activities. We organise activities such as industrial internships, skill programs, laboratory activities, industrial visits, and online and offline workshops. All of these will guide the students to comprehend the dynamics and workings of the industries and the skills required to work in them.
