Frequently Asked Question

1. What is the MHT CET exam syllabus?

The MHT CET syllabus is based on the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) curriculum. It includes Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (PCM) for Engineering aspirants, and Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (PCB) for Medical/Pharmacy aspirants.

  • Class 11 syllabus: Approximately 20% weightage.
  • Class 12 syllabus: Approximately 80% weightage.

The syllabus focuses on topics such as Electrostatics, Current Electricity, Mechanics, Thermodynamics, Integration, Probability, Biomolecules, Genetics, and other key concepts.

2. Is MHT CET maths easy?

The difficulty level of MHT CET Mathematics can be classified as moderate to high and is often compared to the level of JEE Main. While the syllabus is based on the Maharashtra State Board (Class 11 and 12), the questions are application-based and demand a strong understanding of concepts. Here's a detailed breakdown of the difficulty level and preparation requirements:

Topic Weightage (Approx.) Difficulty Level Remarks
Integration 10-12% High Questions are lengthy and concept-heavy.
Differentiation 8-10% Moderate to High Requires a thorough understanding of rules and applications.
Probability 6-8% Moderate Focus on conditional probability and Bayes' theorem.
Trigonometry 8-10% High Includes advanced-level problems.
Matrices and Determinants 6-8% Moderate Straightforward but requires practice.
Complex Numbers 5-6% Moderate Concept-based, often linked with quadratic equations.
Vector Algebra 6-7% Moderate Application-based with emphasis on direction ratios.
3D Geometry 8-10% High Requires visualization and spatial reasoning.

Insights from Previous Year Paper Analysis

  1. 2023: The mathematics section was marked as moderately difficult. Integration and Differentiation dominated the paper with several multi-step problems.
  2. 2022: Questions from Trigonometry and Probability required precise calculations, making the paper slightly time-consuming.
  3. 2021: A mix of conceptual and straightforward questions; students with a solid foundation found it manageable.
  4. Trend: Over the years, application-based questions have increased, focusing on real-world problem-solving.

3. Is 11th important for MHT CET?

Yes, Class 11 is important for MHT CET as it contributes approximately 20% of the syllabus. While the majority of the questions are from Class 12 (80%), skipping Class 11 topics can lead to missing out on crucial marks. Key topics from Class 11, such as Measurements, Scalars and Vectors, Circular Motion, Friction, Thermodynamics, and Ray Optics, are important and must not be ignored.

4. Is CET harder than JEE?

When comparing MHT CET with JEE (Joint Entrance Examination), JEE is widely considered to be more challenging due to several factors:

1. Course and complexity:

JEE: Covers the entire NCERT syllabus. Offers in-depth conceptual questions that require a strong understanding of basic principles. There are also advanced problem-solving questions in the exam especially mathematics and physics

MHT CET: Mainly focuses on Maharashtra State Board syllabus. By allocating 80% weightage to the subjects of Class 12 and 20% weightage to Class 11, the questions are more straightforward as compared to the questions in JEE.

2. Exam format and level of competition:

JEE Main: Conducted at the national level. It attracts more than 10 lakh applicants who compete every year for a limited number of seats in NITs, IITs and CFTIs, making it highly competitive…

MHT CET: State Level Exam It has approximately 4,00,000 to 5,00,000 applicants competing for positions in colleges across Maharashtra. The competition is less intense and the exam is relatively easy.

3. Time management and question types:

JEE: Questions are often multifaceted and require a lot of time to solve. Emphasis is placed on time management and accuracy under pressure.

MHT CET: Questions are more relevant. It encourages applicants to prioritize speed. This is because 150 questions must be answered in 180 minutes, while time is limited. The overall difficulty was reduced.

4. Objectives and scope:

JEE: Facilitates admissions to IITs, NITs and other prestigious institutes which contributes to its highly competitive and rigorous nature.

MHT CET: Provides access to state colleges in Maharashtra, which have relatively easier entry requirements.

5. Do 12th marks matter for CET?

Applicants need only to pass in their class 12 examination with 50 % marks for Open Category applicants and 45 % for reserved category.
