Percentage Calculator CBSE (How to Calculate Percentage of CBSE Class 12?)
As per the official notice from CBSE, no aggregate marks, division, or distinction shall be awarded to students in their CBSE class 12 marksheet. The marksheet will contain subject-wise theory, practical/internal assessment, and total marks. Along with the marks, subject-wise grades will also be mentioned on the marksheet.
However, you can easily calculate your percentage using your marks. The final percentage is calculated considering the main 5 or best 5 subjects (in case of students having additional subjects). You need to simply add the marks obtained in each subject and divide it by the total marks for all subjects. To convert into percentage, multiply the answer by 100.
For example, A student scored the following marks in CBSE Class 12 Result 2025 in the main 5 subjects:
- Subject 1 - 89
- Subject 2 - 90
- Subject 3 - 95
- Subject 4 - 95
- Subject 5 - 92
The aggregate marks for this student will be - 89+90+95+95+92 = 461
Since the total marks per subject in CBSE Class 12 are 100, the aggregate marks will be 500. You need to divide the marks obtained by the aggregate marks, in this case, this will give;
461/500 = 0.922
Now, to convert this decimal number into percentage, multiply the result obtained by 100.
0.922 ✕ 100 = 92.2%

Step 1: Add the grade points of all the subjects.
Step 2: Now divide it by the total number of subjects.

How to Convert CBSE Class 12 CGPA to Percentage
Students can calculate their CBSE class 12 percentage from CGPA using the formula given below. The Cumulative Grade Point Average, generally called CGPA, is the average of the grade points obtained by students in each subject. It can be easily converted to a percentage through the following steps:
- Add the grade points scored in each subject in CBSE class 12.
- Divide the sum of the grade points by the total number of subjects to get the CGPA.
- Now, multiply the CGPA by 9.5 to get your percentage.
The above steps are illustrated through an example below:
Suppose the grade points scored by a candidate in the main 5 subjects are as follows:
- Physics - 9
- Chemistry - 10
- Mathematics - 10
- English - 8
- Physical Education - 9
Then, the overall CGPA will be given by
CGPA = (9 + 10 + 10 + 8 + 9) / 5
= 46 / 5
= 9.2
Now, to convert this CGPA into percentage, simply multiply it by 9.5,
Percentage = CGPA ✕ 9.5
= 9.2 ✕ 9.5
= 87.4%

Frequently Asked Questions
Ques. How is the CBSE Class 12th result 2025 calculated?
Ans. The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has made a significant change to the CBSE Class 12th result 2025 calculation. As per the official notification, percentage calculation and overall division/aggregate marks have been discontinued for the 2025 exams.
Therefore, the results will solely reflect the grades awarded in each subject based on a five-point grading scale (A1 to E). This eliminates the need for calculating percentages or assigning divisions based on an aggregate score.
Here's a summary of the key points regarding the 2025 CBSE Class 12th results:
- Grades: Students will receive grades (A1 to E) in each subject instead of marks.
- No Percentages: The concept of calculating percentages based on marks has been abolished.
- No Divisions: Overall divisions (Distinction, First, Second, Pass) are no longer awarded.
- Passing Criteria: To pass the exams, students need to secure a minimum grade in each subject as per the criteria set by CBSE.
This new approach aims to shift the focus from securing specific marks to understanding subject-level performance through grades. It also promotes a more holistic evaluation of student potential beyond numerical scores.
Ques. What are the steps to apply for re-evalutation of CBSE Class 12th result 2025?
Ans. If you are not satisfied with your CBSE Class 12th result 2025, you can apply for re-evaluation or re-checking of your answer sheets. The specific procedures and deadlines for these processes will be announced by the CBSE after the result declaration on cbse.gov.in.
- Once the official notice on re-evaluation of CBSE Class 12th board exams is published, CBSE will open the re-evaluation window for a specific period.
- You need to be ready with your details like your Roll number, School code and Subject(s) you wish to apply for re-evaluation (you can choose specific subjects or all).
- Pay the re-evaluation fee online through the available options.
- Once you've filled in all the required information and paid the fee, submit the application online. Keep a copy of the confirmation for your records.
- The CBSE will re-evaluate your answer sheets for the chosen subjects. The revised result, if any, will be communicated through the official website after processing all applications.
It's crucial to understand that re-evaluation doesn't guarantee an increase in marks. It primarily focuses on rectifying potential errors like totaling mistakes, missing marks, or unchecked questions. Your marks could remain the same or even decrease in some cases.

Ques. How are practical marks assessed in the CBSE Class 12th result?
Ans. Practical marks continue to be assessed in the CBSE Class 12th results, even with the introduction of the grading system in 2025. They contribute 20% to the final subject grade, with the remaining 80% coming from the theory exam, particularly for subjects with practical components such as Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Computer Science. Students often seek clarification on how practical marks are assessed. Practical marks are awarded based on students' performance in laboratory experiments, viva voce, project work, and record maintenance. External examiners appointed by CBSE evaluate students' practical skills and assign marks accordingly.
Here's a breakdown of the current approach:
- Practical Assessment: Conducted internally by schools, these assessments contribute 20% to the final grade. This can involve projects, experiments, lab work, or other practical exercises relevant to the subject.
- Theory Exam: Conducted by the CBSE, this exam contributes 80% to the final grade. It tests theoretical knowledge and understanding of the subject matter.
Grading System:
- Based on the combined scores from both practical assessments and theory exams, students receive grades (A1 to E) in each subject.
