I was always interested in Computers and coding. So here I am today fulfilling my dream to be a software engineer. Our college provides us class tests on daily basis which helps us to keep ourselves updated. The difficulty level of exams are based on the preparation of the students.

In civil engineering, the course involves subjects like structural analysis, geotechnicals, water resources, transportation and environmental engineering. The theory and practicals of these subjects are taken by experienced faculty throughout 8 semesters. In each semester, students are required to appear for mid-semester exams (30marks) and end-semester exams (50marks) for theory subjects. The remaining 20 marks is allotted to class tests, viva voce, attendance, and assignments. For practicals, viva voce is conducted along with the submission of a report that consists of 50 marks in total.

I feel the course curriculum is lacking behind the current requirements and. The syllabus can be prepared better than now by going through interaction with students and creating awareness about the topic than completing in short time

The curriculum is a mixed bag. For some courses it is up to date encompassing latest developments in the area while for others it lacks current needs. The syllabus focuses mainly on core engineering aspects and unlike most private colleges IIEST doesn't teach coding unnecessarily to every branch to place them in IT.

This college provides one of most comprehensive course on civil engineering all over India, and is second oldest college of India also. The heritage of teaching civil engineering in this college made me choose this college over other colleges. The curriculum of the course is a little old and till now it hits to the basics of the engineering fundamentals, this is good as well as bad for the students because as an engineering student, one have to evolve continuously in using latest technologies. Including new technologies in labs, new techniques of doin the work and new machinery should be brought here to come into action, where this college is still lacking till date. Exams are timely held strictly according to the academic calendar provided by the college in the starting of every academic year, difficulty of exams depends upon the subject and the professor.

The course curriculum is slightly out of date but all in all, it is as good as any Institute of National Importance can have. Exams are conducted twice a semester alongside some class tests and assignments whose difficulties are somewhat moderate

When I got to know about this course I was astonished knowing the scope in it. It has less competition and high payouts. It has scope in government jobs as well. Teachers have experience of many years. They conduct exams in every two months

IIEST is a 167 year old college and Civil Engineering was the first course introduced in here. I can say without doubt, the curriculum devised here is the best. All the faculties are experienced. The college provides internship opportunities and research internships at IITs and NITs under the core subject. Many core companies come here to hire Civil Engineers. If you want to sit for Govt exams like UPSC CSE, Central Civil Services, GATE,.and State Civil Services, the curriculum will help you crack these. Many students from our college have secured amazing ranks in these exams. But I would recommend a very small enhancement in the curriculum, which would be project based learning on a larger scale. Other, curriculum is designed very well.

The courses according to me is upto the mark and as per the GATE examination. So here, many students achieved best rank , for example the AIr 2 in the department of electrical engineering in GATE 2023. As per my knowledge is concerned that the syllabus has been completed till 5th semester so that, students can review the preparation of GATE examination.
IEST Shibpur fees are around INR 1.20 Lakhs per annum. Naturally, the specific fee structure is different for different courses. Here’s a general fee breakup for day scholars and hostellers.
Category | Fees for OC/OBC/EWS per semester | Fees for SC/ST per semester |
Day Scholar | INR 22,500 | INR 7,500 |
Hostellers | INR 52,000 | INR 37,000 |
The authorities change the fee structure according to requirements. The official website will have updates regarding any change in fees.
The fees of IIEST Shibpur keep changing with time, and the present structure is published on the institute’s website accordingly. The present overall first-semester fee is Rs. 42,500, for M.Tech, which is broken into different fragments as stated below in the following table.
Type of Fee (per semester) |
Amount |
Admission Fee |
Rs. 500 |

Key Highlights:
This is the overall structure for the M.Tech fee in IIEST, Shibpur. Other than this, there are other expenses that depend upon the candidate’s way of living and standards.
I am mentioning below the complete breakdown of academic fee-structure for M.Tech at IIEST Shibpur-
For OC/OBC/EWS candidates, the first semester fee is Rs. 42,500. This includes Rs. 3000 as refundable caution deposit. For the remaining three semesters, you’ll have to pay Rs. 39,500 per semester.
This amount includes Rs. 500 registration fee, Rs. 500 for student activity and others, Rs. 2500 as infrastructure maintenance fee, Rs. 35,000 as tuition fee, and Rs. 1000 as examination fee.
For SC/ST/PwD candidates, the tuition fee (Rs. 35,000) is completely waived off. So they need to pay Rs. 7500 in the first semester, and Rs. 4500 each, for the remaining three semesters.
This is the detailed fee structure for M.Tech at IIEST Shibpur. This only includes the academic fees. The mess and hostel charges are separate.
The second-oldest engineering institute in the country is the Indian Institute of Engineering, Science & Technology, Shibpur (formerly named BESU and B. E. College). Since 2014, it has been listed as an Institute of National Significance like IITs or IISc by the Parliament's NITZER Act.
Courses Offered:
This Institute offers 5-year full-time dual degree courses (i.e. 10-semester courses) in the following divisions of the undergraduate course.
The Institute also offers a 5-year full-time undergraduate course in Architecture on a regular basis.
The Integrated Dual Degree Five-Year Curriculum or program for the following Departments of Science and Humanities are funded by the Arch Program, as stated above.
These departments have post-graduate and doctoral programs of their own. There are several specialized centers and schools offering PG and Ph.D. programs at this Institute.
Any college can be good for competitive programming. It all relies on you to educate yourself, to learn new strategies, and to spend hours coding.
Lastly, don't support the myth that the only way to prove yourself as a coder is competitive programming. There are other coding fields as well. In this sense, do not consider that there was no "real coder" in IIEST because there was no competitive coding pattern previously in IIEST (BESU back then).
Some of the alumni of the institute are working in top companies in India and overseas and have never been interested in competitive coding.

B.tech, B.Arch and integrated B.Tech+M.tech are the only UG courses offered by IIEST Shibpur. You can also check these out at IIEST Shibpur Courses & fees.
As per students’ feedback and survey, IIEST Shibpur has earned good reputation for aerospace engineering program. It is the most important to consider some other factors like research opportunities, faculties, etc in order to know its worth. Also, it conducts placement drive where students get offer for the highest salary package.
