College takes a huge amount of money from general students and doesn't even have a placement system for our department. It's very hard course. You can barely survive this course.
The B.Arch is a 5-year course and the course curriculum is expansive yet very enriching. The faculty student ratio is very impressive, it is 2:1 for students to teachers in every batch. The faculty members are all highly qualified, with double PhDs and extensive on-field experience as well. The teaching methods encompass not just classroom learning but also occasional case studies, site visits, educational tours throughout India and multiple workshops every month. There are regular seminars and fora, about every 2-3 weeks for students to learn from professionals in the field and also reputed academicians. The term exams are held semester-wise (every 6 months) but the 'sessionals' are evaluated on a daily basis in the Design Studios. Although the examinations are not very easy to pass if you do not study at all, they can be cleared with flying colors with the right effort.
The course follows a well-structured curriculum guided by the Council of Architecture's mandates. Students get to learn a variety of subjects right from their first year up to the fourth year. Each year is divided into two semesters, with different subjects or continuation of previous ones at times. The final two semesters do not have any theory classes. 9th Semester is reserved for professional training where students are to work in an architectural firm compulsorily for 6 months. The final 6 months of college life are dedicated to the Architectural Thesis Dissertation with no regular classes, just one-to-one interaction with their Thesis Supervisors, and occasional reviews. The faculty members are learned and well-experienced. All of them are well-versed in English, in case students coming from other states find it difficult to understand other languages. The teachers are enthusiastic about taking field classes, and educational tours.
IIEST Shibpur is better than BITS Sindri. Academics, placements, exposure, in terms of, all these factors it is well ahead. But you should give more priority to your choice of course while choosing one of these institutes.
Architecture and Metallurgy are two entirely separate branches. According to the recent highlights, BIT Sindri placements for Metallurgy are better. The highest and average CTC for the branch is INR 10.11 LPA and INR 4.76 LPA, respectively.
IIEST Shibpur has been a top-notch institute for architecture since 1949. The institute offers town & regional planning as a part of the architecture course. It offers both undergraduate and postgraduate courses. Amongst 66 top participating institutes of the country; the institute holds 6th rank.
It has been able to provide knowledge to 1000 graduates and more than 300 postgraduates in the last 50 years. The highlights of the department are as follows:
The classrooms and design places have properly equipped facilities including the CAD LAB. Wi-Fi is also available 24*7. The campus is the best in the entire Eastern India. The premises are filled up with facilities like basketball ground, oval, graveyard.
The alumni are spread all across as its inception is quite old. There is an established legacy of people who have worked with NASA and ZONASA. The talented students have also been able to bag good positions in different design positions.
The faculty comprises good assistant and associate professors from across the country. The classes are also held regularly with an updated syllabus. They provide quite conceptual and practical clarity to the students in order to pursue a great career ahead.
The field of architecture offers very few placements pertaining to this very college as most individuals have to find their own internships or jobs. There are no core companies that come to campus for recruitment making it difficult to earn a living.
The architecture domain is quite interest-specific; therefore it should be opted for only when the individual is adamant enough to pursue it for the rest of life. It is a course having hefty fees but good placements. The decision should be taken after keeping this in time.
