The eligibility criteria are that you have to have a score of 70 or above on your boards for the UG program. You can find the application form provided by the college on their website and fees are mentioned there and the application dates are advertised by the college on various types of social media platforms. There are no reservation benefits I think. The frequency and timing of exams are hectic but I can handle it as it prepares me for the tough situation in the future. The admission process is quite easy I don't think it requires any sort of improvement.

A decent JEE MAINS score would ensure you a seat in BIT Mesra regardless of category or gender. However it is to be noted that roughly 50% of the seats are reserved for students who have Jharkhand as their home state making the cut-off a bit higher for students from outside of Jharkhand.

Basically you have to secure a rank between 30k to 40k in jee mains to get admission in ECE course. If you have any reservation it goes upto 50k. Admission is done through josaa and csab counselling. You'll get around 7 days after csab round to come to college and finish your admission if you got a seat .

- Attendance : Faculties are very strict about there attendence and if someone fail to get 65% attendence due to whatever reason they dont allow to them to pass the subject and make students sit for short sem exams whose fees is 1/3rd of college fees.
- Bit mesra campus have no boundary, so they dont allow students to go out of the hostel in night after 11. So there is no system of libraries for 24 hours, so for the students who studies in night, dont get the facilities of library.

For eligibility, one needs to score more then 75% in 12 boards and get required percentile in jee mains.one can get seat in this college thorough jossa counselling only.Once you get the seat, you will get the mail having payment link and date for visiting the campus. Sc/St, OBC Ans GenEWS get some reservation seats.

BIT GP Birla Scholarship
The total amount for the BIT GP Birla Scholarship is 2.10 crores per annum. Suppose the no. of eligible students exceeds the available funds. In that case, the institute may revise the eligibility criteria to ensure that the total scholarship amount awarded does not exceed INR 2.10 crores every year. This scholarship covers either all part of tuition fees and dormitory costs and sometimes only the tuition fees. Given below are the different categories of BIT GP Birla Scholarships:
- BIT GP Birla Scholarship: This scholarship is provided to meritorious students solely based on their academic performance in MO 2022. The cutoff for this category will be decided by the committee based on the available funds.

This scholarship will cover the position of expenses to be borne by BIT Mesra. The other parts of the expenditure are to be borne by the BIT Mesra Alumni-Association-North America (BITMAA-NA) and the student’s parents. The Dean of Alumni and International Relations will do the processing of the applications under this category.
- BIT GP Birla Assistantship: This assistantship will be provided to the meritorious based on their merit and needs. Both the academic performance in MO 2022 and the family income will be considered for this scholarship. The cutoff for both considerations will be decided by the Scholarship Committee based on the applications received and the availability of funds.

Every coin has two sides and likewise, every institute has its strengths and weaknesses. BIT Mesra has a number of flaws pertaining to its education and culture. I have listed a few
- One of the biggest cons of this institute is that students aren’t encouraged or inclined towards research and innovations at all. All they care about is getting a decent GOA and eventually a job.
- The faculty is least interested in conducting quality research and discovery. They just conduct monotonous classes for the sake of it just to earn money.
- The institute has excellent infrastructure but its utility is poor. There are supercomputers and computational tools, however, they aren’t used to the fullest to bring big achievements.
- Even in this age and era, students are judged on the basis of personal relationships, attendance count; and GPA.
- The focus on securing a high GPA has definitely affected the quality of education and resulted in a rat race for placements.
I really hope the institute makes amendments and brings about a massive research culture soon!
How is BIT MESRA? Is it equal to IIT OR NIT?
Honestly speaking, BIT Mesra is nowhere near the IITs and top NITs. It can however be compared to other NITs like NIT Rourkela, Jamshedpur. Surat, etc.
The institute is known to have excellent campus facilities but the opportunities in core branches are limited. BIT Mesra is a brand name well-known among private colleges. It can be compared to the new IITs to a little extent and is even better than VIT and Manipal University. The only drawback is that getting a high GPA here is quite challenging.
Nevertheless, BIT Mesra is a decent choice for many if you consider the following points
- It focuses on the holistic development of its students and hence has a number of clubs that help students pursue their passion alongside academics
- BIT Mesra offers a plethora of opportunities and exposure to its students.
- The institute is well-known for its excellent coding culture and thus attracts many IT companies during placements.
- The Institute does not tolerate ragging in any form. There is a strong bond between the juniors and seniors.
- The campus spreads across 780 acres and is surrounded by lush greenery.
- The institute has an amazing placement record and last year the highest salary stood at INR 58.33 LPA while the average salary stood at INR 13.01 LPA
Ultimately, BIT Mesra is better than most NITs but not at par with IITs and a few top NIT.
Why has BIT Mesra gone down so drastically? Will it ever come back to normal?
There are various reasons combined together that have resulted in deteriorating education opportunities and quality at BIT Mesra. Despite the huge amount of funds ranging into hundreds of crores, the institute has been receiving, there is no improvement in the situation at all. Here are a few reasons why BIT Mesra has suffered a deteriorating situation over the past few years
- C.K. Birla Group is financially highly unstable and thus adds to the insecurity of the institute as a whole.
- The government of Jharkhand has bad ties with BIT because the CM of Jharkhand was kicked out of BIT without a degree.
- The faculty is worse than VIT, Manipal, RVCE, etc. The poor quality of facilities is the major reason for its drastic downfall. Most of the professors are underqualified or not interested in teaching.
- The college promotes zero research culture and this has resulted in a gradual downfall.
- There is a huge communication gap between the administration and students. Students should be given positions in administration and the administration should work on improving the facilities such as the incubation center for the betterment of the institute.
- The T n P Cell is also responsible for the fall in the placements. They have minimal connections with alumni and fail to attract better companies.
- The institute lacks International Collaborations for undergraduate internships and research.
The students should work hard to bring about the above changes if they want to save their college from falling into the pit.
Is an integrated MSc in mathematics and computing in BIT Mesra a good option?
Maths and Computing is considered one of the best branches after CS in IITs today. The BIT tag is also quite popular among engineering aspirants so many enthusiasts of Math and CS go for this branch to avail the opportunities this field offers. From what I have heard, the syllabus is at par with industry needs and the faculty pool is very passionate and approachable.
Mathematics is an indispensable part of Computer Science whether it’s research in data science or development. you need to be proficient in math. This course is designed to bridge the gap between the two which it purposely does, opening gates of innumerable opportunities.
To make the most of this branch, start concentrating on Core Mathematics and programming/DS/competitive programming right from the first year. Start working on a project by the end of the first year and go for an internship in the software domain. By the end of the 4th year, you will be proficient in most CS skills making it possible for you to sit for maximum placements.
So, taking IMSC in Mathematics and Computing at BIT Mesra will be a good decision if you stop comparing your branch with others. The only drawback is that it is not a technical degree but that does not matter in the long run.
Are the extension campuses of BIT, Mesra in Jaipur, Deoghar, Allahabad etc. as good as Mesra itself (especially the placements)?
My brother is a student at the Jaipur extension campus of BIT Mesra. Here are the advantages and disadvantages of the Jaipur extension campus in particular, and all the extension campuses in general-
Disadvantages-
- The infrastructure is poor and not at par with the BIT Mesra main campus.
- The Jaipur campus offers limited courses and so, networking opportunities are limited.
- The Jaipur campus offers no hostel facility. However, you will be provided a list of PGs and Flats available near the campus as a form of assistance.
Advantages -
- You will get the BIT Mesra tag on your degree. This tag will help you for placements and higher studies. The faculty at the Jaipur campus is highly qualified.
- For placements, you can visit the BIT Mesra main campus and compete head-on with the main campus students. The Jaipur campus’s small batch allows for easier and better placements. Companies like Samsung R&D, SAP Labs, Amdocs, Verizon, etc. and also startups, offer good packages during placements. Core companies visit the campus every year for recruitments.
- The coding culture at BIT Jaipur is good and the students actively participate in ACM-ICPC and GSOC.
- BIT Jaipur students are doing really well in GATE and CAT. Many students from this institution receive offers for an MS from reputed foreign universities like Cornell, University of California San Diego, University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign, etc.
- The BIT Mesra Jaipur branch is located in Malviya Nagar. It is a safe area with plenty of industries for good internship opportunities.
Overall, the Jaipur extension of BIT Mesra, and in fact all its extensions have some associated advantages and disadvantages. But as far as placements are concerned, each extension offers the same facilities as the main campus. In particular, the Jaipur campus also offers good internship opportunities due to its favorable location.
What is the provision for branch change in BIT Mesra?
The question does not give any details. Therefore, I will explain the two time-periods of branch change at BIT Mesra-
- During the admissions- Apart from the counseling rounds, an internal sliding takes place at the college level at BIT Mesra. You can opt for the same by filling the branch change form. If your rank is high enough and the desired branch has vacant seat(s), you will get upgraded to the branch of your choice.
- At the beginning of the Second Year- For a branch change at the beginning of your 2nd year, you need to score high grades during the first 2 semesters of your B.Tech degree. Assuming that you belong to the General Category, you will have to be among the toppers of your branch. However, even that can not guarantee you a branch of your choice. The availability of seats in a branch matters as much.
Shifting into the CSE branch is almost impossible. This is because the branch is highly demanded and thus it ends up with no vacant seats. Thus, this is the overall scenario of branch change at BIT Mesra during your B.Tech.
How is BIT MESRA CSE? Please tell ground reality- clubs, coding culture, past achiever, placements MEDIAN salary. Should I take it or drop?
Regarding your question on whether or not to choose BIT Mesra for your CSE, I would say that the CSE course at BIT Mesra is quite good. Here are a few colleges for CSE that are superior to BIT Mesra according to me- NIT Trichy, NIT Warangal, NIT Surathkal, NIT Calicut, NIT Rourkela, NIT Allahabad, and MNIT Jaipur.
As far as placements are concerned, they are top notch for the CSE branch at BIT Mesra. During the 2022 placements, 113 out of 124 eligible students were placed. The lowest package stood at INR 4 LPA, the average package at INR 19.27 LPA and the highest package at INR 58.33 LPA. The median package was recorded at INR 16 LPA. The companies that visited the BIT Mesra campus for CSE placements were- Micorosoft, Wells Fargo, Walmart, GS, Paytm, Vmware, KPMG, Oracle, MMT, Atlassian, Lowe’s, Whitehat Jr., JF, among others. Media.net, Amazon, Disney, Indeed, Google, American Express, etc. visited the campus after September.
For the IT branch at BIT Mesra, the companies that offered placements were- Amazon, Microsoft, Mindtickle, JF, GS, Paytm, DE Shaw, Whitehat Jr., Walmart, Atlassian, SWYM, Oracle, KPMG, Vmware, etc. In IT, 56 out of 59 eligible students were placed. The average salary stood at INR 20.58 LPA. The highest, median and lowest package was the same as that for CSE.
Basically, if you do not get a top NIT for your CSE, you should choose BIT Mesra. It has good placements for this course.

Here are some tips for you-
To score high in lab-
- Make yourself visible to the teacher by regularly attending the lab and performing well in at least some of the practicals.
- Perform well in your viva and lab practicals. The objective tests hardly carry any value, or the teachers are too lazy to evaluate them and generate your final credit.
- Try to answer creatively and confidently during viva, even if you don’t know an answer in complete detail.
To score high in theory-
- Make a clear study plan, and don’t study each and every thing. Study the modules that will allow you to answer 5 questions in the exam.
- Don’t mug up, study topic wise, and analyze previous year question papers.
- First answer the questions that you know very well. This will build your credibility.
- Don’t leave any question. Try to answer all 5 of them. Sometimes manipulated answers fetch good marks.
- Try to get a little creative with subjective questions. Draw relevant diagrams and write equations. Graphs, diagrams and equations always enhance the answer.
- Write in a neat, well structured and point-wise manner. Don’t be lazy in putting down additional details relevant to the question.
