Course Curriculum Overview :
From the very beginning i was very interested in Computers so that's why i chose Computer Science as my course in IIT Guwahati. This course includes a lot of subjects that make us learn about the real world like DSA, Algorithms, Computer Architecture and many more which are applied in real life. Professor quality can be improved by tougher selection process that i feel is lagging behind. Also exams too place very often due to which learning process is hampered so i think they should be less frequent. Their difficulty level should be increased as some professors just give previous year questions in their exams which is not good.
Internships Opportunities :
Internships are available from start of the 5th semester. Some common companies that offered internships to IIT Guwahati students across different domains are: Quadeye, Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Goldman Sachs, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Infosys, JPMC, Barclays,Ebullient and many more. Stipends start from Rs. 50000 and go upto Rs. 450000(Quadeye, Ebullient) per month. Roles offered are SDE, ML intern, Systems Role, Quant Role ,etc. Students submit their CV having some projects and then are shortlisted and reviewed by the companies that come for internships.
Placement Experience :
From 4th year students become eligible for the placements . Companies visit in Campus and takes the students they are interested in. Some of the prominent companies that visit our campus for placements include Quadeye, Aplhagrep, Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Goldman Sachs, JPMC, Adobe, Flipkart, Intel, Qualcomm, and many more. The highest indian package offered during IIT Guwahati placements was Rs 1.20 crore per annum and the highest international package was Rs 2.40 crore per annum .The overall placement rate was 78.04%. Out of 1425 registered students, 1112 were placed successfully. After getting degree i wish to go for a Quant based based company following my pasion.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
Though our institution provides heavy discounts on fees for the students belonging to backward sections of the society like OBC, SC, ST and EWS, but there is no scholarship for people like us in General Category and since the net fees per year is Rs. 2,60,000 per year which is very large, it is quite difficult to meet this. Till now, i have not taken part in any employment opportunites but I have taken part in some hackathons from which I have earned around Rs. 20,000 . They are Alphaverse Premier League and World Quant Alpha Submissions. Internships are available from the beginning of 3rd year where students get paid for their work. Overall, the course is quite expensive for general students
