- Academics at IITB is really nice, it becomes very challenging to compete with the top ranked students of JEE Adv to get a good grade but it teaches a student to be hard working and make him ready to face difficulties in life.
- Facilities apart from academics, there are a whole lot of other genres to explore and try our hands out on them like sports, music, dance, theatre, drama, comedy and a lot more even regarding tech which makes it a really nice place to live.
Dislikes
- The hostel room for second and third year students.
- There is not much encouragement regarding competitive programming.
Course Curriculum Overview :
I was interested in knowing more about computer science and i felt like coding was what I'll enjoy learning during the 4 years of my college life, also I was getting this course on the basis of my JEE Adv rank so i ended upon choosing this course. In IITB computer science department faculty to student ratio is approximately 1:20. Faculties of here are not just highly qualified but also has tremendous experience in their particular subjects, there are numerous faculties who have been honoured with awards such as the Padma Shri, ACM and IEEE Fellowship, Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar award, Infosys Prize, and many other prestigious fellowships. Most of the faculties tries to make the course pattern such that it becomes easily understandable to the students and with continuous feedback system they review their teaching methodology from time to time. There are 2 term exams per semester, mid-sem and end-sem and apart from them there are numerous quizzes, assignments, projects and labs per courses
Internships Opportunities :
There are a lot of internships provided by the placement cell for the students of second and third year btech, second, third and fourth year dual degree students and first and second year mtech students also for phds. Several foreign universities came for research internships and a whole lot of large and small firms offering software developer, data analyst, quantitative trader, quant researcher, financial analyst, consulting roles. Stipend for these internships varies from 15-16 lakhs per month to 30000-40000 per month depending upon the role and the offering companies.
Placement Experience :
Placements for btech students in done in there final year i.e. in 7th sem for btech students and in 9th sem for dual degree students. In my college a lot of different companies visit for the placement varing from large MNCs offering crores of packages to small firms offering 8-12 lakh pa. All the big firms be it Google, Microsoft, Apple, DE shaw, Uber, came here for placement. Highest and average packages vary each year with the highest getting into crores but overall the placement scenario of IITB is really nice with almost 90-95% of students getting placed.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
Generally tution fees remains the same across all the IITs, what veries is the hostel fees and mess bill. Fees in IITs are quite lesser as compared to private engineering institution, also the facilities provided in IITs be it in terms of job & internship opportunities, research facilities, co-curricular activities, are much more than any other engineering institutes. Fees is generally around 3 lakhs per year. But there are several scholarship schemes which are their to help the students who find it difficult to pay their fees. Two most popular scholarship schemea are: Remission of fees- Given to students whose total parental incomes is less than 5 lakhs. Benefit of this scholarship is 2/3 of tuition fees of the student is reimbursed. Remission of fees- Depending upon parental income the benefit of this scholarship varies but it has to be less than 5 lakhs and the student has to be in top 25% of his batch. There are several other scholarship for SC/ST students and female students.
