Ashutosh Kumar Sinha's Review On Birla Institute Of Technology And Science - [BITS], South Goa

Remarks :

BITS PILANI was the best private engineering University and also had a great alumni network. And to be honest, IIT hila ni, isilye BITS PILANI. So yeah. About the course, i had to fill in a preference list ( courses) and allotment was based on my BITSAT marks. I had M.Sc economics about Maths in the list but my marks could only get me Maths. The college has a good Maths department so in the end, it was a good experience

Course Curriculum Overview :

BITS provides a lot of flexibilities when it comes to the course curriculum. There's no attendance requirements. A handout for each course is given stating all the topics to be covered and by when. There are electives you can take up which will facilitate you with the compulsory courses you are supposed to do. There is a PS (practice school) program at the end of second year which is basically a nonprofit internship which is to give you a feel of the work culture. Also there are many opportunities for industrial exposure. There are many faculty members worth mentioning. I will name a few like Srinivasan Krishnaswamy sir( chemical dept), Mayank Goel sir ( maths dept), Prasanna sir( maths dept)

Internships Opportunities :

CSIR-CIMFR, Modelling of Underground coal gasification, assistant, no stipend

Placement Experience :

The college is famous for it's computer science dept with 100% placements and an average package of around 18lpa. Famous companies Uber, Microsoft, Nutanix, J.P Morgan, Oracle, Directi, Phone pay, OYO, Amazon, flipkart, famous startups like dunzo, bounce, anarock, Jovix. For IT placements, there's a coding round, then technical interview and then HR round. For non-tech, there's a quant round, multiple interviews and HR round. For IT placements, mainly there are two kinds of roles. Software developer (SDE) and data analyst (ML, AI). For non tech there are multiple roles. Business analyst, product analyst, product manager, digital marketing role etc. BITS has one of the best alumni network all over the world with people at important positions. Start-ups like zivame, bigbasket, grey Orange robotics, jivox, gharpay etc. Our placement division has done some wonderful work over the years and is trust worthy. There's also entrepreneur cell which supports the entrepreneur culture in the college. There's an annual event every year names coalescence which invites famous entrepreneurs from different fields to come and share their stories. Basically, there are endless opportunities in BITS PILANI. It's on you how you grab them up.

College Events :

Our college boasts of some of the best college fests that you can imagine. Culture fest- Waves, Technical fest - Quark and sports fest - Spree. The fests are amazing. There are seperate departments which handle each of the fests. Famous celebrities are confirmed for performances, food courts, amazing programs and events which last for 4 continuous days.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

There's a MCN scholarship which you can avail only if your family income is less than 5 lpa. There's provision to avail loans for the payment of the fees.

Campus Life :

It's the best private engineering college in india with a sky rocketing fees demand so, di not worry about the infrastructure. 180 acres in size. Wifi everywhere in the college. Library bigger than two hostels combined. You have seperate SAC (Sports activity center) where you have access to almost all kinds of sports. There's a proper cricket ground, football ground, lawn tennis court, basketball court, swimming pool in the making. Labs are well furnished with latest equipments.

Hostel Facilities :

In my time all the hostels had single rooms. No sharing. But now, only the first year hostels are sharing. Hostels are the best part. Some of them have a balcony attached. Rooms are well furnished with a attached almirah, a study table, a shelf, a cot, fan and a white board. All windows are covered with mesh. Proper hygiene is maintained in the hostel lobby and washrooms as cleaning is done every alternate day. There's a common room in each hostel with a TV, TT table and a carrom board. There's also a badminton court. A WiFi router for every 2 rooms.

Course Curriculum Overview:

So far the course is good but it does get difficult if you don't study at least one hour a day , you have to study and make notes yourself so that you can be prepared and answer all the questions and help the other students who have doubts in whatever they want

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course curriculum is competency-based. The lecture schedule includes interactive sessions, practicals, clinical and group discussions. The learning process includes clinical experiences, problem oriented approach, case studies and community health care activities. Areas that could be improved include the implementation of small group discussions. Journal and logbooks should be given less significance. Interactions during the discussions should be given significance. Tests are conducted periodically and the timings are practical. The difficulty level of exams is easy to moderate level. The examination includes questions of clinical and practical relevance and not just theoretical knowledge.
