IIT Goa

Remarks :

The only negative remark I have about our college is the Mess Food. Most of the time the food doesn't have adequate amount of salt and tikha. The varieties of curries they make are so uninteresting to eat. It's so hard to eat it there in the mess. The breakfast items would be good by the way.

Course Curriculum Overview :

Our Course Curriculum is well structured and covers the topics which are of more demand now in the world. In the beginning of the semester (An year contains two semesters), after 2-3 weeks, we usually have quizzes(exams) and then we have Mid-Semester exams. After these, we have quizzes again after a month. In the end we have End-Semester exams (Final exams). In the beginning, the exams and labs would not be frequent and we would get some free time. But as the days pass, the schedule's intensity increases and that's not monotonous, we get usual breaks for relaxation. Whenever we feel tired or broken, we play sports outdoor or have dinner in a peaceful restaurant.

Placement Experience :

2020 is our first placement year. Our first batch of IIT Goa is going out this year. Yes, our college does provide internship and the topic is about Marine Engineering. This internship was offered in collaboration with a reputed French University. I'm not aware of the stipend and other things. We have a placement cell which is dedicated to facilitate the students of IIT Goa for placements or contacting recruiters. We have an Entrepreneurship Cell(famously known as E-Cell) for new innovative business solutions or ideas of solving the world's problems.

College Events :

We have a techno-cultural fest(combination of both technical and cultural fests) called CultRang. Participants from all over the country, hailed to our college and gave their best. We have some other cultural and fun fests like Flock, Fresco Fiesta which provide a platform for our college mates to showcase their talent on a big stage.

Fee Structure And Facilities :

The fee structure is a bit high for the General category students who can't avail any scholarships. Fee per Semester: 1, 14, 750 Rs (nearly 1555 US $) Mess Fee per Semester: 15, 000 Rs. (nearly 204 US $) TOTAL FEE PER SEMESTER: 1, 29, 750 Rs. (nearly 1759 US $) TOTAL FEE PER YEAR: 2, 59, 500 Rs. (nearly 3516 US $) which is a bit high in India.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

Our institute in collaboration with SBI and Corporation Bank is providing no interest study loans or loans with a minimal interest. For merit cum means scholarship, you have to apply through the offline format in the institute. For Low-income families, the tuition fee scholarship was made available according to the annual income of the family. SC's and ST's are completely exempted from paying the tuition fee and they have the facility to avail Mess Fee Scholarship.

Campus Life :

We have many clubs dedicated for the arts and sports as well. We have Dance club, Music Club, Literary Club, Art Club, Yoga Club, Economics Club, Arduino UNO Club, Information Security Club, Tech Club and so many others. The labs are equipped with good equipment but you may not find the research equipment that you want to work on. Gender Ratio is 1:8 G/B. You can find people from all over the country from different cultures and languages. But we coexist in harmony peacefully and happily.

Hostel Facilities :

I have opted for hostel. The hostel infrastructure is extremely good. There are two people for a room. For a person, we are provided with an almirah, a study table with locking facility, a cot and a chair. In the hostel premises itself, we have a Basketball court, Tennis court, Badminton courts, Cricket nets and a huge Mess hall. We have three blocks dedicated for boys and one block dedicated for girls.

Alumni/Alumna :

Our seniors try to help is in all ways possible. They are friendly with us and guide us when we are in difficulties. Without them, we might have faced a lot of trouble in the beginning for getting adjusted to this environment. It is them, who were with us all the time.

Admission :

In IIT's, people are admitted through an entrance exam. I've written JEE Advanced for it. Actually, to be eligible for Advanced exam, we have to qualify JEE Mains before that. The JEE Mains Score can get you into some top NIT's, IIIT's, GFTI's. But to get into IIT's, as an undergraduate, you have to give JEE Advanced exam. After qualifying in the JEE Advanced, you will be asked to fill some choices of the college and branch that you wish to pursue. Initially, they will conduct two mock rounds, so that the aspirant gets an idea of how the counseling process will be done. While the mock rounds are in process, you can change your choices. But, if once the deadline of choice filling is over, you'll not be able to change them throughout the whole process. There will be 7 rounds of counseling. The counseling process is being done by the JOSAA( Joint Seat Allocation Authority). After these 7 rounds of counseling, we have another 2 special rounds of counseling which will be done for allocating the vacant seats in NIT's, IIIT's and GFTI's. The first 7 rounds are final for the admission into an IIT. After the counseling process, you will be asked to come to a nearby Document verification centre for verification. Then, at the end you will be given a letter of admission approval which you have to produce at the institute when you go for admission. A similar process will be done at the institute at the time of admission. I've chosen Mathematics and Computing branch in IIT Goa. I'm extremely interested in Mathematics and I love to code. I wanna go further in Mathematical studies. It's by pure virtue of myself.

Faculty :

Faculty are extremely good. You can find almost every area of interest that you might want to research on, as the faculty here have immense experience to guide in the right path. The faculty here have Masters and Ph.D degrees from some top reputed institutions in the world. The faculty are very helpful as far as academics are concerned. They also share their knowledge and experiences with other college students and professors in the name of seminars, TechFests or meetings.

Placement Experience:

Final students are eligible for placements. Companies such as turtle mint, findem, Nokia, IFB, Samsung, Adani power, HDFC Bank, Tesco, Upskill, ONGC, Jio, and many more. Last year almost everyone got placed. Average package is 10 LPA. This year though placements were not as expected because of economic depression. Even after the placements, lay offs have become common. Hence to cope up with the competition we need to keep upskilling.

Placement Experience:

IIT Goa offers campus placements to its students. Students become eligible for campus placements in their final year of study, i.e., in the 7th or 8th semester. Several reputed companies visit IIT Goa for campus placements, including Amazon, Microsoft, Goldman Sachs, IBM, Tata Steel, Larsen & Toubro, Adani Power, etc. Higher placements offer is of 1.2cr and average placement offers are16-25 lac per annum. The percentage of students getting placed during campus placements at IIT Goa is quite high, with around 90% of students getting placed every year. The remaining students generally opt for higher studies or pursue entrepreneurship. In case no campus placement is offered, students can explore other options for employability, such as applying for jobs through job portals, professional networking sites, or by directly contacting companies. They can also consider pursuing higher education or research in their field of interest or starting their own business.
