A good college with dedicated faculty

Remarks :

The college has highly dedicated faculty, but owing to it's temporary campus, the infastructure is not up to the mark of an NIT. New campus of NIT Goa will be ready by 2021. It has a good WiFi on campus giving 700 kBps on average.

Course Curriculum Overview :

The course curriculum is extensive and regularly revised. It is in accordance with the curriculum followed by all other IITs and NITs. The semester examinations consist of 2 minors, 1 midsem and 1 endsem exam. All the marks of these exams are added and a GPA is calculated based on the overall performance of other students. Finally the GPAs of all semesters are combined to give the Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA).

Placement Experience :

The average package is 6.1 lakhs per annum. This year the highest package was 12 lakhs. Many major companies visit the campus such as Microsoft, Jio, Wipro, Suzuki motors, Infosys, Samsung, Siemens etc. The college itself doesn't provide internship but the excellent Training and Placement department makes sure that the students are in touch with companies and other institutions that provide good internships. Examples of such institutions are Konkan Railways, NIO Goa, and so on.

College Events :

The major event celebrated is Saavyas. It is generally held in the even semester every year. It is a technical as well as cultural fest, giving the participants a wide array of contests to choose and express their talents, be it arts, dance, music, robotics or programming. Apart from this, it has events such as sports day, hindi week and so on.

Fee Structure And Facilities :

The fee structure is kind of expensive, but after all it is decided by the Government. Per semester fee is Rs. 66,700 (only tuition fee), but fee waivers are present if the students are financially poor (income below Rs. 5 lakhs)

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

The college provides a fee waiver for financially poor students. A 1/3rd fee waiver is provided if income certificated below 5 lakhs is provided, and there is further waiver for income less than 1 lakh.

Campus Life :

Owing to the temporary campus, the labs are pretty small, but sufficient. Similarly, sports facilities are limited, but a football ground, badminton court and TT tables are present. There are other extracurricular activities regularly held throughout the year.

Hostel Facilities :

Since NIT Goa is on its temporary campus (in GEC campus) it's hostels are GEC hostels itself. The hostels are okay but not good. Once the new campus is built (expected to be built in 2021) excellent hostels are expected.

Alumni/Alumna :

The senior students are really helpful providing guidance on any topic when asked. The alumni network is also approachable and helpful when contacted. There is absolutely no ragging in any form on the campus.

Admission :

I got admission through JEE Main exam. After passing JEE you have to fill your choices of colleges on the JOSAA website which allocates colleges based on your rank. After a college is allowed to you in the 7 rounds of college allocation, you have to go to a particular location (usually a nearby IIT or NIT) to confirm your seat in person.

Faculty :

Almost all the faculties have PhD's from reputed colleges such as IITs. Most of the faculties are highly dedicated towards making the students learn deeply about the subjects. They are always approachable even during office hours. Overall teaching is really good, some exceptions are always there.

Placement Experience:

Final students are eligible for placements. Companies such as turtle mint, findem, Nokia, IFB, Samsung, Adani power, HDFC Bank, Tesco, Upskill, ONGC, Jio, and many more. Last year almost everyone got placed. Average package is 10 LPA. This year though placements were not as expected because of economic depression. Even after the placements, lay offs have become common. Hence to cope up with the competition we need to keep upskilling.

Placement Experience:

IIT Goa offers campus placements to its students. Students become eligible for campus placements in their final year of study, i.e., in the 7th or 8th semester. Several reputed companies visit IIT Goa for campus placements, including Amazon, Microsoft, Goldman Sachs, IBM, Tata Steel, Larsen & Toubro, Adani Power, etc. Higher placements offer is of 1.2cr and average placement offers are16-25 lac per annum. The percentage of students getting placed during campus placements at IIT Goa is quite high, with around 90% of students getting placed every year. The remaining students generally opt for higher studies or pursue entrepreneurship. In case no campus placement is offered, students can explore other options for employability, such as applying for jobs through job portals, professional networking sites, or by directly contacting companies. They can also consider pursuing higher education or research in their field of interest or starting their own business.
