Xavier Institute of Polytechnic and Technology

Being the Head of ECE Department, what are your roles and responsibilities towards students?

As a Head of the Electronics and Communication Engineering Department at Xavier Institute, my key responsibility is to supervise the Departmental activities, monitor academic progress of students and provide them with the finest quality education and learning opportunities to transform them into amazing professionals.

In addition to this, educating students about the latest market trends and providing them required practical exposure in line with ever changing technologies and organization also comes under the scope of my responsibilities.

How do you bring in a practical and industry-oriented approach towards subjects?

I encourage students to relate things and connect it with their own life perspectives because only then they will be able to bring necessary changes in society and find out solutions for real world issues. Apart from this, we organize role plays to make them understand various techniques rather than just practicing rote learning.

Which best practices are offered by your department to students to help them gain necessary skills?

Our college has adopted a practical and industry-oriented curriculum in accordance with latest trends, developments and needs of the industrial world and to deliver finest quality knowledge of various subjects to students, because our belief is that for professional development of students, only theory would not be enough and they need in-depth understanding and extensive real-time exposure.

Also as and when needed, we make changes in curriculum to discard old practices, theories and methodologies and due to the same approach, our students are ready for whatever trends are coming up and they are already able to take up the challenge of the outer competitive world.

What do you see as the greatest strengths of your college?

The greatest strength of our college is our teamwork and innovation facilities we have developed over years on our campus, because we never leave any stone unturned to learn and discover new things and always make sure that everyone has each other's support. And if anyone ever feels low or demotivated, we ensure that things are corrected on time without making the concerned person feel guilty.

And since we have each other's support, even when a task gets completed, we make sure to make necessary changes in it as and when required. Apart from this, our courses and subject syllabus are regularly updated in accordance with industry standards and students, after rigorous consultation with experts.

How do you prepare your students to confidently deal with the outside competitive world?

We teach and train our students in a challenging environment and make sure they feel a competition within. Also we don't make them think that we as teachers will pamper them for everything.

Because we firmly believe that students should try things out of curiosity and put equal efforts as their teachers for their own overall personal and professional growth. Hence, we give them such exercises, assignments and projects, which make them think rigorously and brainstorm to find a solution instead of copy from somewhere.

For eg. I am an industrial organizational psychologist and if I have to give a project to them regarding organizational behavior model then I will not say search what is the model rather I will say go and do research on Collegedunia, talk to their employees and ask them what model are they following.

Any valuable advice which you would like to give to your students for a prosperous career ahead?

I would like to advise my ambitious students to keep learning new things and enhancing their skills because no goal is impossible in life if you have a curious mind and sincere hard work.

So take challenges as opportunities, stay curious and creative and be passionate and focus towards your life goals be it short term or long term.
