Faculty of Law, University of Calcutta was established in the year 1909 with the purpose of being a body of the university that is dedicated solely to the study of law. It offers higher education in the field of law and functions under the University of Calcutta. It has been given recognition by UGC and is affiliated to the Bar Council of India (BCI). - Office: It is best to try to avoid the office because of the unreasonable amount of time taken to resolve queries/obtaining signatures is frustrating
Admission:
Application is done completely online. Students who are interested in pursuing this course has to sit for an Entrance Exam(Calcutta University Law Entrance Test). Approximately 10,000 students sit for this exam every year. One's rank has to be above 120 to get into this college. Total no of seats in this college is 120 out of which 60 are reserved for categories other than General. The application fee for General is 500 and 250 or less for reserved category candidates. To apply for admission, one has to visit caluniv.ac.in Entrance exam is held once a year and current affairs, geography, analogy, English, mathematics, History, Political Science, Quantitave and Qualitative Aptitude shall be studied thoroughly.

The college is amazing and it is a government college so no extra fees is taken. The maximum course fee is taken from the students and it is under the University of Calcutta so if living in Calcutta you get wide aspects for your better future. The admission into the college is totally based on your merit and the marks obtained by you in your CU entrance exam. It is wonderful college and I advice each every law aspirant to apply for this college and only pay for what you study nothing extra will be taken.

I don't find any negativity as such about our college. It is well connected with the railway station at ballygaunge as well as metro station at Jatin Das Park. It is also connected to Howrah station by private mini bus.

The Placement Cell needs to be revived.That is a major issue.Moreover, the hostels need to be cleaned regularly.The university authorities are already taking necessary steps in that regard.Another issue that needs to be taken care of is monkey menace.Students need to beware of monkey attacks.They have to keep their rooms locked as sometimes, monkeys raid their rooms.

Good in education and also fun. Renowned. Inexpensive. Experienced teachers. Lots of extracurricular activities. Co-operative staff. No ragging. The campus is close to nature. Infrastructure is old and in poor condition.

Yes, there are opportunities for placement. Every year a good number of law firms visit the college for campus recruitment and select a good number of students as their employee. Their salary ranges from 15K to 20K.
There are many scholarship facilities being provided by the Department as well as the University Administration. These facilities are usually available for the students of the reserved categories as well as students claiming the Economic Weaker Section(EWS) quota.
You should have passed a 10+2 or equivalent exam from a recognized board with a recommended minimum of 50% on aggregate.
