From 7th semester onwards, a student will become eligible for placements but before that in 6th semester, student has to do training and internships. In our time companies were hardly visited due to recession, however by the end of placement season 1 year later, my branch had 80%-85% placement. Highest from my branch was 11LPA and overall it was 12.

From seventh semester or fourth year students are considered eleigible for campus placements. The placement is nothing exceptional to be honest. Especially for core branches. But if you are in circuital branches you can sit for both core as well as IT companies. Some of the regular companies visiting are, TCS, INFOSYS, ITC Infotech, Cognizant, IBM, Smartkid Education, Nineleaps technology etc. The average package for EE students would be approx around 3-4 lakhs at most. Many from core branches go for GATE, or government exams in engineering. My own plan is to go for a masters after this course or try for Central Government EE jobs

Students can apply for on campus placements after completing 5th semester (during 3rd year). If no campus placement is offered, one can still apply for different private companies off campus or continue further study for GATE or CAT exams which leads to M.Tech. and MBA courses respectively. To be honest, the employability after doing further degree after B.Tech. is way better. Pursuing Ph.D is also a great option. 80-85% students get placements after completing B.Tech (this percentage varies every year). My personal plan after completing B.Tech is to have a 2 years job experience and then I want to do an MBA (The 2 years job experience will help me get greater grades while doing MBA).

Generally IT branches get more placements that core branches. But in my time we had more core companies visiting our college than any IT company. Companies like TCS, cognizant, pinnacle, wood, DCPL and manyyy more visits HITK. Placement drive is very good compared to any other Private Engineering college in WB with packages ranging between 3,00,000 rs per annum to 8,00,000 rs per annum for my branch. Average package is nearly 4,00,000 per annum.
Heritage Institute of Technology (HIT) is one of the best engineering colleges among all the affiliated colleges with Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology. The courses have NAAC and NBA accreditation and are AICTE approved. It is also recognized among the national engineering institutes with 154th NIRF Ranking for Engineering 2020.
The institute witnessed a 100% placement record during the last few years. Most of the students have bagged packages from more than one company. The CSE, ECE, and IT branches have an edge over the other branches in the institute.
The placements statistics (overall) are below:
Placement Percentage | 80-90% |
Average Package | 8-10 LPA |
Lowest Package | INR 3-4 LPA |
Highest Package | INR 16-20 LPA |
Recruiting Companies | Wipro, Tech Mahindra, TCS, Cognizant, etc. |
Usually, grabbing the package in a broader bracket is a cumbersome task. Overall, HIT is the best among all the colleges of any other WBUT.
The Placements cell coordinates with various industries and organizations for placements and internships of students. High numbers of students placed in companies like TCS (Tata consultancy services) and Infosys. These companies are mass recruiters for Heritage institute of technology. Placements statics of Heritage institute of technology are:
Except for placements, students of HIT also take part in summer internships and mock interviews sessions for each branch. The institute also signed a MOU with New Jersey institute of technology (NJIT) for students exchange program. There is also one ED–cell (Entrepreneurship development cell) in the institute for providing a platform to young entrepreneurs. So if the academics report is at least 6.75 one will get placed in companies.
Heritage Institute of Technology (HIT) Kolkata, affiliated with MAUKAT, is ranked 154th in the NIRF Ranking 2020 for engineering colleges in India. According to some of my friends studying there, it is a really good institute.
According to the past statistics of the institute, the following are the placement percentage of each branch.
Branches | Placement Percentage |
Computer Science & Engineering | 95% |
Electronics & Communication Engineering | 95% |
Mechanical Engineering | 75% |
Biotechnology | 70% |
Civil Engineering | 66% |
Chemical Engineering | 60% |
Applied Electronics & Instrumentation Engineering | 60% |
As per the above, ECE and CSE are the best branches in terms of placements. But you can opt for the department which interests you, because overall the placements of Heritage Institute of Technology is really good.
The civil engineering branch or any core branches like mechanical or electrical are good at Heritage Institute of Technology. Some professors are really good and helpful while others are not. Some will teach you by their experience while some will teach you by the core concepts.
It’s the students who make the difference between a good and average college. Unfortunately, Heritage Institute of Technology lags behind in this manner. The placements are not good in core branches and in core companies due to this only. Most of the companies that visit the campus are IT sector companies who take people from any branch in a big lot. TCS is a regular recruiter here and they take more than 500 students in one year itself from this campus alone.
Core companies do visit the campus although in small numbers. But to crack their interviews you need to have a good understanding of your core concepts in your branch which unfortunately not all the students are capable of and thus the recruitment in core branches in core companies is low. However, you will get a job after doing civil engineering from this institute, even though it is just an IT job.
Both institutes have similar placement records and recorded 100% placement offers. The average package offered at IEM Kolkata has been 7.5 LPA while Heritage Institute received 3.75 LPA.
Following are the company-wise offers for the recent batch at IEM Kolkata:
Company Name | Job Offers |
Cognizant | 238 |
TCS Ninja | 225 |
Capgemini | 137 |
Wipro | 133 |
Infosys | 128 |
TCS Digital | 59 |
Following are the company-wise offers for the recent batch at Heritage Institute:
Company Name | Job Offers |
TCS | 189 |
ITC Infotech | 212 |
Infosys | 45 |
Cognizant | 45 |
Wipro | 49 |
TCS Digital | 59 |
The best institute in terms of placement is Heritage Institute of Technology, Kolkata. It has pretty good placement records over the years.
Some of my friends studied at Heritage Institute of Technology. According to them, getting into a decent company through campus recruitment from any of the private engineering colleges doesn’t necessitate much effort. Let me state some facts which may be useful to you.
TCS accepts a large number of ECE students from college. When compared to their core counterparts, IT firms recruitment processes are significantly more liberal and discriminatory.
In a word, you’ll need a GPA of at least 8 at the end of your sixth semester, strong aptitude skills, and a touch of luck can make you win a spot in the campus drive.
Heritage Institute of Technology is a very popular and reputed engineering institute and provides very good facilities to its students. According to the reviews online, here’s what I got to know.
Hence, instead of taking admission in Heritage Institute of Technology for M.Tech in CSE, it will be better to prepare for GATE exam and qualify for IIT or else take admission in some other better colleges for M.Tech.
For the Computer Science and Information Technology departments:
The number of product-based companies visiting HIT-K is very low when compared to Jadavpur and Shibpur university (current IIEST), but it is higher than other colleges under WBUT.
1) Digital Dynamic Technology (R & D of Polaris networks).
2) Nomura Institute of Research
3) Yodlee Information Technology
Because all of the companies mentioned above are small, their intake is limited at times.
If you want to excel, you can start doing projects under different professors, there is a coding club, and they have recently started organizing monthly coding contests on Hackerrank.
Make connections with seniors who are already working in product-based companies and try to get internships through referrals. You should not wait until the third year to start an internship; learn C/C++/Java, DS, and Algo and you'll be ready to start an internship at any product-based company. Microsoft held an off-campus event, but it does not count because it occurred only once.
In terms of the CTC, it is determined by the year and the organization.
The average package that gets offered at Heritage Institute of Technology varies from batch to batch with the minimum to a maximum salary ranging in between INR 2.5 Lakhs per annum to around INR 10 Lakhs per annum. The average salary package is roughly around INR 3–4 Lakhs per annum. Some of the major recruiters for Mechanical Engineering at HIT were HPL, Linde India, Infosys, Wipro, etc.
The package you are offered mostly depends on how you create your profile, which includes your grades, internships, and projects. I am confident that you will receive a decent payout after considering all of these factors at the end of the four years of your program.
Yes, there is. There will be multiple rounds of training, from the first year, you will get soft skills training, until the beginning of final placements in September of the seventh semester, when the college conducts particularly focused Group Discussion and Personal Interview Training.
At the starting of the 7th semester, there are special classes organized by the training & placement office of HITK and grooming sessions for getting specific skills that are helpful during placement. Heritage does have a Training and Placement Cell, and based on what I've heard from seniors, they do teach you in your final semesters so that you can succeed in things like Computer Programming, Written Aptitude, GDPI (group discussion and personal interview), and eventually obtain a decent job.
