How to Fill JEE Main 2027 Application Form Online (Step by Step)
The registration process on the NTA portal has four stages: new registration, form filling, document upload, and fee payment. Candidates should complete all four stages in one sitting if possible, as an incomplete form is not considered valid.
Step 1: New Registration
- Visit jeemain.nta.nic.in and click on Registration for JEE (Main) Session 1 2027 (or Session 2, as applicable).
- Click New Registration and read the instructions, then click Proceed to Apply.
- Enter name, date of birth, mobile number, and email address. Set a security question and answer.
- After submission, NTA sends an Application Number and Password to the registered mobile and email. Save these — they are required for every future login.
Step 2: Fill the Application Form
- Log in with the Application Number and Password received during registration.
- Fill personal details: father’s name, mother’s name, Aadhaar number, nationality, category, and PwD status.
- Enter academic details: board name, Class 12 pass year or appearing status, subjects, and marks.
- Select the paper: Paper 1 (B.E/B.Tech), Paper 2A (B.Arch), Paper 2B (B.Planning), or a combination.
- Choose up to four preferred exam cities in order of preference.
Step 3: Upload Photo and Signature
- Upload a recent passport-size photo in JPG/JPEG format, 10 KB to 200 KB, on a white or off-white background.
- Upload the signature in JPG/JPEG format, 4 KB to 30 KB, signed in black or blue ball-point pen on white paper.
- The portal shows a preview after each upload. Check that the face is clearly visible and the background is white before saving.
Step 4: Pay the Application Fee
- Fee payment is accepted via debit card, credit card, net banking, UPI, or at a Common Service Centre (CSC).
- The fee is separate for each session. Applying for both sessions requires two separate payments.
- After successful payment, a confirmation page and a transaction ID appear. Save or print this page as proof.
Step 5: Print the Confirmation Page
- After payment, take a printout of the application confirmation page. NTA does not send a physical admit card by post.
- The confirmation page serves as proof of successful submission until the admit card is available for download.

- Class 12 marksheet or admit card — for board name, roll number, and marks; for appearing candidates, the board admit card

- PwD certificate — for candidates with benchmark disability; issued by a government medical board

Two-Session Strategy: Should You Apply for Both Sessions?
JEE Main 2027 will be held in two sessions — Session 1 in January 2027 and Session 2 in April 2027. Candidates can appear in one or both. If they appear in both, NTA takes the best score out of the two sessions automatically for the merit list — candidates do not need to choose.
Applying for Both Sessions
- The application fee is paid twice, once for each session. There is no combined or discounted fee.
- Session 1 acts as a trial run — candidates experience the real exam environment before Session 2, which is closer to counselling dates.
- If a candidate is satisfied with the Session 1 score, they can skip Session 2 and the Session 1 score remains valid.
- This approach is strongly advised for top NIT and IIT aspirants who want to maximise their percentile.
Applying for Session 1 Only
- Saves the Session 2 fee and gives more time after Class 12 board exams to prepare for JEE Advanced.
- The Session 2 registration window opens and closes before Session 1 results are declared, so a candidate cannot go back and register for Session 2 after seeing a disappointing Session 1 result.
- Suitable for candidates who want an early attempt and are confident enough not to need a second chance.
Applying for Session 2 Only
- Gives more preparation time, especially for candidates whose Class 12 board exams fall in February or March.
- The risk is higher — one session means no backup attempt.
- Works best for confident candidates who want to avoid the pressure of a January sitting.
JEE Main 2027 Application Form Correction
After the last date to apply, NTA opens a short form correction window of usually 3 to 5 days. During this window, candidates can change certain fields.
- Can be changed: exam city preferences, paper selected, exam language, and some personal details
- Cannot be changed: name, date of birth, and category after the correction window closes
- Photo and signature can be re-uploaded during this window if the earlier upload was rejected by NTA
- If a paper is added during the correction window, the fee difference for that paper must be paid
- Check jeemain.nta.nic.in for the exact correction window dates once the notification is released
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Name mismatch with Class 10 certificate: The name in the JEE Main form must match the Class 10 certificate exactly — even a single character difference can cause problems at counselling.
- Wrong date of birth: Enter the date of birth as it appears on the Class 10 marksheet, not from Aadhaar if they differ.
- Using a parent’s mobile or email: All OTPs and future communications go to the registered contact. Candidates must use their own number and email.
- Photo with a dark or coloured background: NTA checks the background automatically. A rejected photo leaves the form incomplete.
- Not saving the Application Number: The Application Number is required to log back in at every stage. Write it down separately immediately after registration.
- Not verifying payment: A payment attempt interrupted by a browser crash or poor internet may not go through. Log back in and check payment status before the deadline — do not pay again without confirming the first attempt failed.
