The Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IITR) is highly regarded for its faculty and placement success. With a student-to-faculty ratio of 1:50, exams are conducted twice a semester, and while generally easier than the JEE, high grades require significant effort. Approximately 5% of students initially fail but often succeed in re-exams. The coursework was recently updated to meet market needs. The James Thomason Scholarship offers Rs. 25,000 monthly to students with an AIR up to 250, while the annual fee for others is Rs. 250,000.

International salary packages can reach 2.15 crore per annum, while domestic offers go up to 80 lakh per annum. Average salary packages range from 18-25 lakh per annum. Leading companies like Google, Microsoft, Amazon, and Goldman Sachs recruit at IITR, with students eligible for placements in their 7th semester. Internships are plentiful, with stipends from Rs. 20,000 to Rs. 1,00,000 monthly and an average of Rs. 50,000.

Around 30-40% of students secure internships, particularly in circuital branches, and maintaining a CGPA above 8 is crucial for success. Tuition is Rs. 1,00,000 per year, waived for SC/ST students, with additional scholarships available for economically weaker sections. Hostel and mess fees are between Rs. 30,000-50,000 annually. The fee structure is affordable for low-income and reserved category students, supported by scholarships like the National Scholarship Portal and Raj Uchch Siksha Yojana. Education loans and need-based scholarships are also available for families earning below Rs. 3 lakhs annually.

The fee policy is managed by a Fee Monetary Committee and may be revised by the Board of Directors.
