The hostels are very good like for boys Rajiv Bhawan is the best so basically in the room there is a cupboard, study table, chair, bed, tea table and there is a Lan port for internet connectivity The meal quality is very bad but the menu is good but the meal is tasteless but yes better than many colleges. The registration process for hostel is done itself by the administration and they are very affordable like in nearly 40000 you will get mess food, hostel for 6 months. There is no option for PG for btech students as of my knowledge.

Here At Iit Roorkee We don't have Hostels We're Bhawans Like Jawahar Bhawan Rajendra Bhawan Sarojini Bhawan Etc. Most Of The Bhawans Are Old But the Condition Is Well Maintained. There Are 1, 2, And 3 Seaters Room In Bhawans And the College Provides Us Beds, Almirah, fan table And Chair. All The Basic Things Required Are Provided By The College Administration. We'Ve To Bring Our Own Mattress, Buckets, Etc. Mess Food Of Some Bhawans Are Pretty Good Even Iit Roorkee Bhawans Mess was Recently Reviewed By Fssai Team And Granted the Most Hygiene Hostel Mess. Menu Is Decided By Students. Bhawans Are Alloted At The Time Of Admission Only After Theta Students Have To Switch Every Year According To Their Respective Years. The Hostels Are Affordable It Cost Around 50000 To 60000 Years. As Iit Roorkee Has A Residental Campus No One Is Allowed To Stay Outside The Campus You are To Stay In Hostels Only.

IIT Roorkee offers the best hostel facilities to first-year students. Their hostels are bigger and better than the hostels of other students. The rooms are usually single or double sharing and are decked with basic amenities.
Most students prefer bringing baggage to hostels while some pack almost every possible thing. I wouldn’t suggest you pack a lot as literally everything you want is available very easily. So you will just be adding extra luggage that will become a nuisance for you.
Don’t pack too many clothes and unnecessary electronic gadgets as all laundry facilities are available. Pack light luggage and include the following
Refrain from carrying unnecessary bedding and books as everything is available in Roorkee. You can get essential commodities like mattresses, buckets, and other toiletries.
The hostel life at IIT Roorkee is nothing less than magic as it gives you precious memories that will stay with you forever.
During the initial days, you will have to stand in queues for your food or library cards. The food at the mess will look edible initially but very soon you will start detesting it. It’s advisable to seek constant help from your seniors and maintain good bonds with them.
After a few months you will adapt yourself to the campus and your hostel will become your home away from home. Night outs will become a common occurrence and you will love strolling through the campus the entire day. All this will leave an everlasting impression on you and you will end up missing these days a lot.
Every hostel at IIT Roorkee has different quality rooms allotted to the students. My friend is a first-year student and was allotted a room in Rajendra Bhavan. This hostel is meant specially for first-year students and comprises 3 blocks, A, B, and C.
Overall, IIT Roorkee has decent hostels that will not make you feel homesick!
IIT Roorkee has several hostels for students, each with its own unique features and amenities. Some of the best hostels in IIT Roorkee include
Rajendra Bhavan: This hostel is especially for freshers and has the best amenities. Every block has a lawn with a volleyball net. The Internet facility is a bit poor but it works in favor of the students giving them more time to spend with each other and involving in outdoor sports. However, the food served in the mess is pathetic.
Govind and Jawahar: Both these hostels are equally decent white Govind has a slight edge over Jawahar owing to its close proximity to departments. Some major facilities of these hostels include the central library, computer center, banks, Lecture Hall Complex, and the Main Building. The mess food at Govind is served far from the main building but the food served at both hostels is of better quality.
Ravindra: This is close to Gobind and in general to other departments as well. The hostel has its own stationary and Xerox store. The food served is also of good quality and taste. The only disadvantages are the small rooms with little ventilation and the faraway mess.
Radhakrishnan and Rajiv: Both these hostels have been newly constructed in the form of buildings instead of the usual hostel structure. The building has no open facilities like lawns and the only area to get fresh air is the gray cemented open space on the first floor in Radhakrishnan with two badminton nets. Both these hostels have great gym facilities and Radhakrishnan even has a generator facility but again very pathetic mess of food and small rooms.
Cautley and Ganga: Both these are the least preferred hostels among the students. This is because the mess is detached and serves below-average food. Ganga has very small rooms in comparison to Cautley which has better rooms and also an ATM, a lawn, and a general and stationery store.
The general preference order is as follows
Rajendra Bhawan > Govind Bhawan > Jawahar Bhawan > Ravindra Bhawan > Rajiv Bhawan > Radhakrishnan Bhawan > Cautley Bhawan > Ganga Bhawan.
Yes, in IIT Roorkee rooms are somewhat allotted based on JEE AIR. One of my friends who studied there told me her neighbors shared the first 2 or 3 digits of rank. However, there is no partiality and only top rankers aren’t allotted the best rooms. The layout and size of rooms in most hostels are similar with minor differences.
The freshers are allotted the Rajendra Bhavan which has 3 blocks. The opening rankers might be given a slight advantage here. Most branch mates are neighbors unless you are an opening rank of the branch, you will be allotted the block where other rank openers reside.
From 2nd year, you will be sharing a hostel with PG students and Research scholars who complain about any noise.
The hostel fee at IIT Roorkee is around INR 15,000 per semester for male and female students. This charge consists of INR 10,000 as accommodation cost and INR 5,000 as electricity cost. This is the hostel fee for unmarried students, married students have a different fee structure for the IITR hostel facility.
IIT Roorkee is India's top technical college which spreads across approx. 358 acres. IIT Roorkee has an excellent ultra-modern hostel which is equipped with plenty of facilities and all major amenities required by students.
10 hostels are for male and three are for female students. Apart from that, IIT Roorkee also provides hostels for married students pursuing PhD or any other courses. There are 6 married hostels and only 1 Co-Ed Hostel. IIT Roorkee has sports facilities, a cafeteria, plenty of hangout places, banks, a post office, railway reservation counter, a hospital, places of worship, and other such facilities.
The hostels at IIT Roorkee are decent. Every hostel has a cyber café run by students. Each hostel has a WiFi facility. There are 10 boys’ hostels, 3 girls’ hostels, 4 hostels for married scholars, and 1 co-ed hostel. All of the hostels are surrounded by a serene, orderly, and calm environment. The hostel mess serves decent food.
The fresher B.Tech boys are allotted rooms in Rajendra Bhawan. It has three blocks- a,b and c. The b block has a playground facility, which is an added benefit. Top rankers are allotted single rooms in Rajendra Bhawan, while others are given double seaters. All the blocks have students from almost every branch, and students from the same branch are allotted neighbouring rooms. Rajendra Bhawan is quite old, and you can not expect much.

I hope this has cleared your doubts on the IIT Roorkee hostels. You need not worry as you’ll be provided with all the basic facilities, and you’ll have a great time at the IITR hostels.
