Course Curriculum Overview:

I had liked the course from my jee days and enrolled it. But it is a huge distraction from what I have learnt before. To be honest the courses are bit frustrating with proofs being the main objective. The good part are the labs. Some professors have great knowledge but falls short in teaching. But if you have gathered interest in a specific branch of physics you will get great support from the respective professors and senior students to pursue it further. Recently they changed a few curriculum because it is timely. Courses can be easy sometimes and frustrating the other times but exams are almost the same haunting. There will be a few assignments for every course, 2 quizzes, mid and end-semester exams, and also a project.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Curriculum here is good. There are 2-3 core courses every semester and other electives can be chosen from 2nd year. The sequence of core courses for engineering physics is well defined moving from classical to quantum. Mostly 2-3 classes per week per course. Exams are mostly midsem endsem and quizzes in between.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course covers a lot of basic concepts in the field of physics and prepares you for further works in the field. Througout the 4 years you cover various subfields of physics including Quantum Physics, Solid State/ Condensed Matter Physics, Statistical Physics, Electromagnetism and Photonis and so on. You can also then take electives in fields of your interest and the content here is unlimited. Other than that you can be part of varios research groups working on the frontier of modern physics. The course content is often heavy and requires effort if you want to sccore good grades. Otherwise you can just take a back seat and enjoy the physics as well. Professors are really helpfull if you ask for their help, otherwise you might find yourself struggling. The course provides you with all necessary tools for a carrer in advanced physics although as a standalone it might not amount to much.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Engineering Physics is a unique course which provides Physics as a BTech program. The course introduces to various fields of physics and thus make one decide if they want to continue higher studies in any field (MTechs or PhDs). The curriculum also has a bit of electronics, so those interested can go on exloring that field too alongside. We have midsemester and endsemester exams every semester. Apart from that, professors may take multiple quizzes / assignments / projects based to course. Difficulty level of the course is relatively high compared to others. All the faculty members are extremely good in their repective fields.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Talking about faculty, if I have to define them, literally they are one of the best teachears you will find in India. Almost every faculty member is PHD holder and most of them is doing research in diiferent streams. Many paper have also published research papers which as a student inspires us. Talking about relationship with us it is so chill. They try to intreact to us in most informal way possible. Their knowledge in their stream is vast and they are literally the smartest minds in country. Coming to curriculum, i am first year btech student and my department is engineering physics. In first year circulum is a little bit chill. Of course you have to study to clear mid sems and end sems but not like JEE. My branch is bit hard as compared to other branches as it is research oriented branch but it is so intresting and it's fun to stufy it.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I chose this course because I want to pursue higher studies and want to go on research. The faculty-student ratio is very good for me, one mentor is alloted per 10-12 students. Faculties are very well qualified. Exams difficulty depends on the professor.

IITB-Insights

3.8Helpful

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course curriculum at IITB offers a comprehensive and well-structured approach that equps students witha solid foundation in their chosen field. Personally, Ichose EP with the aim of nurturing my passion in physics, a fine balance between theoritical and practical applications, prepares student well to face real-worl problems. The faculty memebers undoubteldly are highly knowledgeable in their respective domains however, it's worth nothing that while many profs excel in knowledge, there is a room of improvement in terms of effective teaching methodologies. Only a handful of them truly stands as exceptional educators who can convey comples subjects with clarity and enthu comparable to meomarable jee teachers. For some courses, facultu-to-student ration is not meaningfull. In some courses it's like 370 to 400 is to 1.

Course Curriculum Overview:

This course is mainstream in Physics and supports research in the field. There is about 40-50 staff in the Physics department. All the faculty are Ph.D. scholars in relevant topics A term is 4 months long including all the exams (midterm and end-term). Courses are relatively fast and especially pace up in the second half of the semester. Focus on learning is low and academic load is high.

5.0Helpful

Course Curriculum Overview:

I chose the course because of my interest in the subject, the student-to-teacher ratio is almost 1 so it's possible to get 1on1 attention from profs. Some of them you get profs are IITB graduates themselves earning a Ph.D. at MIT. So far the exams have been fairly easy, but these weren't pertaining to the course of choice because it's still my first year. Talking to seniors I've found out that the course is fairly difficult in senior years.

IIT Bombay: 1 Answered Question

Which is better: Engineering Physics at IIT Bombay or Electrical Engineering at IIT Roorkee?

Sumit BoseIIT Bombay (2019)

It would be suggested to pursue Engineering Physics at IIT Bombay rather than Electrical Engineering at IIT Roorkee.

When it comes to studying physics at IITB, there are some key differences between JEE physics and college-level physics. Here are some important points to keep in mind:

  • In JEE physics, you study formula derivations after brief explanations of concepts and practice a lot of problems in that topic. College-level physics courses are typically more rigorous in theoretical and mathematical content, and problems are solved to help you understand the concepts more deeply.
  • While EE does not have any pure physics courses after the first year, it focuses on making you an electrical engineer. Core courses include analog and digital electronics, signals and systems, network theory, electronic devices, microprocessors, power electronics, and some relevant math courses.
  • EP, on the other hand, has core courses like quantum mechanics, electrodynamics, statistics, relativity, classical mechanics, waves and optics, nuclear physics, etc. There are also important math courses up to your second year.
  • EP trains you in core physics concepts and prepares you for experimental physics and electronics, giving you many options for your career path. You can work in theoretical or experimental physics, electronics, statistics and stochastics, CS-related research, or pursue higher studies in physics.
  • When choosing between IITB and IIT Roorkee, consider factors like the quality of professors, campus culture, and location. IITB has excellent professors, a beautiful campus, and great cultural and sports scenes, and is close to TIFR, which provides opportunities for collaboration.
  • When it comes to placements, most EP students go for higher studies because they are passionate about physics. For EE, core and non-core jobs are similar to those for other courses in terms of job security and salary packages.

Finally, the "brand" of IITs, especially IIT Bombay, provides a sense of job security that can be reassuring for graduates.
