The Civil Engineering department in IIT Bombay has around 50 professors of different specialisations like transportation engineering, water resources engineering, structural engineering, etc. The student to faculty ratio in pour department is about 3.0. All the faculties are well qualified and completed their research, P.H.D from premier institutes. All the faculties have immense knowledge of their field and are a great resource of knowledge for someone who want to learn deeper in their field. Most of the professors explain well and make the classes interactive , so that students can get maximum out of the lecture and learn the application of the concepts. Professors are also approachable via mails or by visiting their offices during office hours. Questions an doubts can be asked in classes too, but if someone wants more clarification, can approach them by sending mails or visiting their offices.

There are enough faculty for students and two faculty advisors over 80 students in our department. They helps us in taking right courses and takes several decision that affects our learning process. The faculty is quiet good and consists of well renowned and experienced professors. Each professor have a unique way of teaching some focus more on Assignments and learning new software for real life problems while some believe in deep learning and basics of the concept on which the new concepts can be developed. There are few professors who believe in both and make them run parallely. To interact with professors we can approach them directly after class or can take an appointment through webmail (institute's e-mail id given to each student). In case of any doubts we can approach our TA's (Teaching Assistants) and if they are unable to solve the doubt we can approach the professor.

Many of the faculties are way more talented than one would expect and there H index is markable. As a faculty they try each student to try the concept and they provide assignment and homework also sometimes we have projects for better understanding. The course curriculum totally depends on the professor. Sometimes it is 2:3:5. 20% quiz 30% midsem and 50% endsem. And sometimes the assignment takes the space of weightage. Some faculties also provide counselling for weak students which helps a lot. Also if one have doubts he/she can reach out to the TA teaching assistant, who will clarify there doubts. Also as a batch of 100 students, it will be tougher to handle for a single faculty. So the batch is divided into cluster and each cluster is provided a single faculty known as FacAd, faculty advisor. One can reach out to the faculty advisor if he/she has any personal or academic issues. The FacAd is also responsible for students registration of courses in each semester. This how the faculty

The faculty to student ratio is not so good, not so bad. Professors are available in office hours to clear any queries. In classes also, students are encouraged to ask doubts. The faculty members are very highly qualified from top universities across the world. Interaction with teachers could be done regularly both online and offline.

The faculty members or the proffesors here are undoubtedly excellent in teaching and their own research field. All the professors are open to all the students of the college, where they belong to their branch or not.

The faculty to student ratio is quite impressive and for learning point of view faculties are always there. But some faculties approach to students good though. We get a faculty as guide in last year but some faculties don't cooperate well with their students.
One of my friends had a great experience interacting with a brilliant CSE professor at IIT Bombay, Dr. D.B. Phatak.
He called the professor who gladly invited him over to his office. My friend was impressed as such a busy person who is 65 years of age was ready to meet him without hesitation. He reached his office and was welcomed almost as if the professor was expecting him for the past few weeks. He was simultaneously attending calls and yet managed to attend to my friend happily. Talking to him did not look like one is talking to a Padamdhee awarded such a humble attitude. He told my friend his youth stories and discussed a number of topics. In the end, my friend couldn’t resist asking what kind of person gets successful like him. To this, the professor replied,“ I will tell you an anecdote. I am chairman of a certain bank body where we conduct elections for nominating a board member. Once we had elections where each person got some 3–5 votes and generally one of those votes people gave to themselves. In that particular election, there was only one lady who has ethically and honestly given all votes to other fellow members and in the end, she lost the election by one vote only. Do you know who that lady is today? She is chairman of SBI. Your ethics make you great, not the degrees, money, and positions.”
The gist of the interaction was that one can become successful irrespective of his position and credentials. What matters is how humble your stay even after being extremely successful.
