IGNOU: Students' Opinion

AI-Generated Summary based on 1671 Reviews

The faculty at the college is generally considered experienced and qualified, with many holding advanced degrees like PhDs. The faculty-to-student ratio varies, with some reports suggesting a ratio of 60:1, which can limit individual attention. However, the faculty is often described as approachable and supportive, especially during scheduled sessions, though some students report inconsistent communication and availability. Classes are typically held on weekends, aligning with the university's distance learning model, which limits regular interaction.

There is a strong emphasis on self-study, with resources such as YouTube channels and Gyan Darshan TV broadcasts supplementing learning. Exams are held annually, with a mix of theory and practical assessments, and assignments contribute a significant portion to final grades. The marking scheme typically requires a minimum of 40% to pass, with some students finding the exams moderately challenging. Overall, the faculty is praised for being professional, knowledgeable, and supportive, though improvements in communication and resource availability are suggested.

Academic counsellor who is very much support for the students of MA/BA in English assignment. Professor Nandini Sahu - she played a key role in devely programme in Folklore and Culture Studies . Students often engage with her via course materials. There are two exams in two years course of MA in English. For me exams are very easy, just you need to understand the question and write the answer about 500/600 words for 20 marks.

Faculty interraction is however limited. Most learning is self paced with minimal mentorship. While regional centres do conduct counselling sessions occasionally. Marking scheme includes both assignments 30% and term end exams 70% which balances internal and external assessments. Assignments are compulsory and must be submitted on time to be eligible for exams.

Faculty members were very cooperative and supportive in my overall journey in ignou. No matter how many tomes we asked to teach us any particular lesson or subject, they didn't hesitate to do so. Every faculty member is important and helped me so i believe there is not a single professor i didnt like. There was 2 exams in two years so we had ample amount of time to study. There was no difficulties in any exams .

IGNOU focuses on self-learning, so there aren't many chances to engage with the faculty. the books are generally more than sufficient and reading them by yourself is typically good enough, at least at the undergraduate level. There are some classes scheduled sometimes, but not too many. Greater focus is given to student-teacher interaction at the graduate level, though. The course is extremely well designed and relevant to the present times. It is designed by some of the leading experts in the field. The exams, however, are not as easy as one might assume. They are not "hard" per se, but a lot of students assume that they can just "fill the page" and get marks

Satyam Purwar
Pranjal TiwariStudied at Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU)

It is guaranteed that the study material provided by IGNOU is excellent. You'll have a great time going through them. It will undoubtedly provide you with a thorough understanding of the subject. However, it is not without difficulty. You get to work hard. If you want to study Economics via distance education, IGNOU is your best bet.

However, pursuing it at a regular university in a face-to-face mode may be preferable because teachers can assist you with your difficulties. However, if you are already employed, MA in Economics from IGNOU is an excellent choice.

How is BBA from IGNOU?

Rishabh MalhotraAssistant manager-Inside Sales at Koenig Solutions (company)

Everything in life has advantages and disadvantages. Here are the advantages and disadvantages of BBA from IGNOU:

Pros:

  • IGNOU offers a BBA with a Specialization in Retailing (rather than a general BBA), which broadens your opportunities in the retail sector beyond sales and marketing.

  • Every year, you receive a certificate. As a result, you can begin working immediately after finishing your 12th grade and continue to advance each year. You don't have to wait three years for a degree before you can get a job. You can study while working.

  • Every year, you are given a project that allows you to gain real-world experience in the retail industry and complete it in retail organisations.

  • Retail Associations of India is collaborating with IGNOU-BBA. You will receive the best curriculum for it.

  • The course is written in simple language that is easy to understand, and it includes the best knowledge in the retail specialisation.

  • The cost of this course is the lowest of any university that offers distance education for BBA.

Cons:

  • There is no Math or Statistics subject in the entire BBA course from IGNOU, so it is entirely theoretical.

  • Unfortunately, some prestigious MBA programmes look for a Math subject in the course of graduation when accepting applications. However, there will be many colleges that will accept your degree.

  • Similarly, some government jobs require a Math subject as part of your bachelor's degree programme. However, there will be plenty of opportunities for you in the government. as well as the private sector for employment You can still apply for exams such as Bank PO, SSC, and UPSC.

  • The same exposure found in regular BBA will never be found in distance BBA. The reason for this is that you will not learn how to give presentations in front of an audience, which is essential if you are studying BBA.

This course is not offered in every city. So, before enrolling in IGNOU's BBA programme, you should contact the IGNOU regional centre in your city. Because this course is taken by a small number of students, it is only available in a few cities. However, when comparing distance universities for the course of BBA, it is recommended that IGNOU is the best because of its lower cost, reputation, and educational standard.
