Aditya Garg's Review On IIT Kharagpur - Indian Institute Of Technology - [IITKGP], Kharagpur

Remarks :

No negative points to mention. Apart from food everything here is quite good and student friendly. Good points :excellent academics, infrastructure, internet, alumni base, plethora of courses offered, sports facilities Bads: food, remote location

Course Curriculum Overview :

There are two semesters per year. each having exams at two times. Mid sem and end sem. Mid sem comprises of 30% marks while end sem comprises of 60% marks and rest 10% are teacher evaluation or class performance. The course curriculum provides a plethora of opportunities to students ranging from humanities and social science to law and medical courses.

Placement Experience :

Placement or internship opportunities here are one of the best in the country. There is a dedicated career placement cell that takes care of all placement-related stuff. For internship companies start visit campus from the first week if August while for placement it is 1 December. Competition is too high among students but one needs to pay extra attention to studies and preparation during this time.

College Events :

Spring fest social-cultural fest, kshitij techno-management fest great step mining engineering annual fest, megalith civil engineering annual fest, mechanical engineering annual fest, e summit entrepreneurship annual fest, alumni meet alumni cell annual fest

Fee Structure And Facilities :

Fees is now quite high for incoming batches ranging upto rs 3lakh per annum but loan facilities are easily available for students from the state bank of india as this is a tier 1 college. On the scholarship front, there are plenty of scholarships available for the student for which they will be well informed during the orientation program organized by the institute.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

They are numerous scholarship provided to students apart from student loans for which they will be well informed during orientation program of iit Kharagpur. To name a few there merit cum mean scholarship and i spire scholarship for master of science students.

Campus Life :

There is a dedicated students gymkhana which houses different sports facilities. There is a swimming pool. Also jnan ghosh stadium for athletics and hickey events. There is a tata sports complex for cricket and football also.

Hostel Facilities :

Yes, i have opted for hostel facilities provided by the institute. For first year student they are provided lal bahadur Shastri hall of residence which is a new hostel facility but in terms of food they provide worst food at iit Kharagpur campus.

Alumni/Alumna :

There is a dedicated alumni cell for alumni-related activities. They run special mentorship programs for students mentored by alums in student chosen fields. Apart from it, the student can also leverage Linkedin connection by sending the to request to them directly .they are quite helpful generally.

Admission :

It takes admission through jee advanced and jab counseling. Students first need to register for jee mains and qualify it. after it they are supposed to give jee advance for which they have to secure rank under 5000.

Faculty :

Faculty is top-notch, especially in some subjects. To explicitly mention students do take course of public finance and Policy offered bt pulak sir of the humanities and social sciences department. other courses being navtej sir mechanics course. Also, you can learn In your own. The curriculum is too student-friendly and students wont feel any burden while giving exams or writing assignments.

Placement Experience:

For master's, campus placement is less compared to bachelor's courses, Company visited less in numbers, but still, 30 - 40 percent of students get placed, some went for Ph.D. in IIT, and some got placed off campus. On-campus placement average package is around 4 lacs.

Remarks:

Before joining Mtech in Computer Science and Data Processing (Mathematics department) in IIT Kharagpur I completed M.Sc in Mathematics from IIT Madras. At that time wanted to go for industry jobs so I decided to pursue M.Tech course related to computer science. Specifically, I am interested in Machine learning and statistical data analysis. That time I had two options either IIT Madras (Mtech in Industrial mathematics and scientific computing) or IIT Kharagpur (Mtech in CSDP). I preferred IIT Kgp and joined it.
