A Review for BITS Pilani, KK Birla Goa Campus

Dislikes

  • Exams are packed throughout the semester. Every month there will be either a quiz/midsem/compre(finals). Every week, there are evaluative labs which reflect on the CGPA so you have to constantly study.
  • Not a lot of hostel facilities like a pantry. Kettles, iron are not allowed.

Course Curriculum Overview :

This is a core course. And due to high demand of Electrical and Electronics students, I chose this course. BITS excels at core and IT courses. The professors are PhD holders and excel at their subjects, publishing papers with the PhD students under them. They also hold regular talk sessions, giving insights on how the industry is developing. Grading is bad but worth it

Internships Opportunities :

Two internships are provided and compulsory by the college. Stipend is not given in the first internship. But high chance of being paid in the second internship. Most people are offered a PPO in PS2. In 2024, 81% students were placed. A lot of students go for abroad studies.

Placement Experience :

The campus offers two internships(Practice Schools 1 and 2) after the second and third years. Most companies give PPO in PS2. The average of the Circuital branch is 20 lpa. And for IT it is 31lpa. A lot of companies visit the campus. The placement cell is very active.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

Admission Fees: 57,000/- Advance fees(caution, etc): 27000/- Mess and Electricity: 20000/- First and second semester: 2,59,000/- each Fees are the same for everyone except those availing of the MCN scholarship. Semester fee increases by 5% every year

Campus Life :

There are three fests: Waves(cultural), Quark(Technical), and Spree(Sports). Waves is held in November. Quark in January. Spree in April. Library is big. Offers both course books and other books. Newspapers, science journals are also available. AC works perfectly well. Facilities like water, washroom are provided. The library is open till 12 am on regular days and during exams, it is open till 2 am. Smart boards, black boards are in every classroom. Chairs and desks are all in good condition. Big cricket and football ground is provided. Including nets and turf. There are 4 basketball courts, 2 lawn tennis courts and 1 squash court. Clubs are active a lot. Some exclusive clubs really make you work for getting inducted but the process is fun.

Hostel Facilities :

Room has a good bed. Whiteboard is also present. Table has good space in drawer and cabinet. Almirah is of steel. Mess menu is unique but the food is okayish. Some days it will be very good. Everyone has to apply for hostel, irrespective if they live in goa or not.

Admission :

KJ Somaiya. Wasn't worth it. It doesn't come close to BITS Goa. BITS conducts its own test named BITSAT. It has JEE mains syllabus And to score you have to be accurate and fast. The paper pattern is 100 questions of +3/-1 scheme. There are 30 bonus questions which are unlocked only after submitting all the previous questions.

Faculty :

1:15 faculty-student ratio. Faculty has certain chamber consultancy hours during which you can ask about your academic and non-academic doubts. Their emails are also easily accessible. Professors of M1, PnS, Gen Chem are good.

Placement Experience:

The placement at my college are decent. Students from Computer and IT department easily get placed at a company. The companies that frequently visit Goa engineering college are persistent, one shield, Infosys, tcs , Wipro etc . Each year there are around 300 offers received in the entire college. The highest package a student has got is 15lakhs per annum from TurtleShell. The average package is 6 LPA. Around 50% od the students get placed. I wish to work at a product based tech company after my graduation.

Placement Experience:

Final students are eligible for placements. Companies such as turtle mint, findem, Nokia, IFB, Samsung, Adani power, HDFC Bank, Tesco, Upskill, ONGC, Jio, and many more. Last year almost everyone got placed. Average package is 10 LPA. This year though placements were not as expected because of economic depression. Even after the placements, lay offs have become common. Hence to cope up with the competition we need to keep upskilling.

Remarks:

The college as a whole has good faculty, infrastructure and good placements. It can be one of the best colleges one could get (if not an IIT). The only negative (not exactly) remark would be the fee structure of the college
