Dislikes

  • The hostel rooms are the worst in condition. There could be new beds and tables and proper lightings in the bathroom and toilets.
  • The hostel food is very bad, the quality of the food can be increased and proper healthy foods can be provided.

Course Curriculum Overview :

Since my childhood I have a keen interest with how some machineries work, about their gear system and drives. As a result when I got admission here I already had an aim for mechanical engineering. The professors here are very friendly and helpful, they are always ready to give advice and clear our doubts. From time to time they give assignments and homeworks to make our concepts clear. Now for better improvement there could be more smart classes and training of the professors on how to use the smart boards so that they can display us animation and 3d models as mechanical engineering requires lots of visualisation and perspective. So for better understanding of concepts smart classes can be introduced. The exams are held regularly after 2 months of the start of a semester which I think is a good timing and balanced. During examination we also often get gap due to which we are able to complete the syllabus and study well too.

Internships Opportunities :

The internship opportunities available here are very helpful. We get to do internship in various fields like 3d printing and many new softwares too. Oil India also offer for internship in out college and many other companies like TRTC Guwahati also give internship opportunity.

Placement Experience :

The placement cell of our college is very active. Many companies like OIL India and Vedanta come where the 12LPA is often offered. Almost some percentage of students get placement, if the class has a strength of 60 students then 5 or 6 of them get to sit in placement. My plans after getting a degree is to apply for job or get a job in a PSU company.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

Here the fee structure is good and cheap. The acadmic fee is only around 5.5k and the hostel fees is about 15k every semester which can be paid through card or upi id. Many scholarships are available for categories like ST, SC and other also. For girls also pragati scheme is there. The problem is there is less awareness about scholarship and sometimes the procedure is also not clear as a result some students don't get to apply for the scholarship.

Campus Life :

In NERIST the campus life is very good. The campus is very clean. The only problem is the less renovation of hostels and toilets. The boy's hostel is in extremely poor condition many rooms have leaking rooftops during rainy season and some even don't have proper table many furnitures are broken and the bathrooms and toilets don't have proper working bulbs and electric lines. Many technical and cultural fests are organised here semester to semester. For July to December semester cultural fest like RACAF is organised where students get to show their talents in many fields like singing, dancing, drawing, crafting and even Mr. and Ms. competition. During January to June semester there will be two fest sports fest known as Synergy where there will be all sports from indoor games to outdoor games. And the other is Technical fest known as SHRISTI where there will be a test of our knowledge and ideas about engineering.

Hostel Facilities :

The hostel facility is very bad. Girls hostels are in good condition but the boys hostel is completely opposite. The rooms are good but some rooms have rainwater leakage problem and some don't even have window. Many rooms have broken bed or tables and the bathrooms of every quadrant have clean water supply but there will be no lights and some have leaking taps and as a result there is a lot of water waste. The food quality is very bad sometimes it feels like we are paying for detoriating our own health.

Admission :

The admission process of our college was quite lengthy but it was worth it. Since after the admission I got to learn and experience so many ideas and knowledge about mechanical engineering. At first we have to give the NERIST entrance examination NEE-1 for base module, NEE-2 for btech or NEE-3 and then wait for the selected list and waiting list to come out. After giving my NEE-1 exam my name was there at 6th position of the waiting list. The faculty members and the college websites helped alot for the admission procedure. The faculty members were also very patient and kind. In case we missed out some documents they gave time and chance to bring our missing documents. The application form is easily available in the college website of NERIST. There are reserved seats for ST, SC and other castes. The exam is quite difficult but if your basics in class 9 and class 10 are clear then the exam is easy for NEE-1. The website is weak and it can be made more powerful so that it doesn't crash.

Other Applied Colleges

IIT Delhi - Indian Institute of Technology [IITD] | Bachelor of Technology [B.Tech] (Mechanical Engineering)

I wanted to give the exam but because of corona I didn't give the JEE exam.

The placements are good so far and every year at least 80% of students get placed and the companies that come to give placements are mostly core companies. The average package every year is 8LPA. So I do have a plan to sit on placement.

Remarks:

It is the best technical College in our state and the course I took was good for developments in our state as it is an agriculture based state. Students from various parts of North East come here through entrance. Seats are there for all India students too.So NERIST is full of diversity in culture, caste and race.It provides B.tech,B.sc,MBA, M.tech,M.sc,P.hd program. The course I took was Agricultural Engineering. It was a much needed course in our state which directly depended its economy in agriculture.
