- The worst thing that i found in the campus is mess food.
- In some of the hostels rooms are very congested. You can have only one table for two people.
Course Curriculum Overview :
In the Mathematics and Computing department, there are two or three courses in maths every semester. Some fundamentals of finances are also taught during the second and third years. And all the other courses are the same with the students of Computer Science. So after graduation, you can pursue math for higher studies or get into an IT job. Classes are held for 3-4 hours a day if there is any lab it will be for 3 hours. Since most of the students in the course are top rankers at JEE there is tough competition for grades otherwise the courses offered are interesting. if you love mathematics otherwise it is not suggested to take this course.
Internships Opportunities :
Many companies come for campus internships during our third year. The stipend depends on the companies. There are companies that pay you up to 15 lakhs and some 20-30k. Some of the companies that came to pick up interns are AMAZON, JP Morgan, Google, Quadeye, etc. In my department most of them were Software developers, Quant, Web developers etc.
Placement Experience :
IIT Guwahati has a very good record of on-campus placement. 81 percent of students were placed in the year 2023. Some of the companies that visited the campus are Oracle(25 placed), Microsoft(28 placed), Google(10 placed), Goldman Sach(9 paced), and Barclay(6 placed). The highest package offered was 2.4 cr with an average of 16 lakh. Student sit for placement interviews in their fourth year.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
For General and OBC category students it is approximately 1,50,000 per semester including everything. But if they have less family income, their tuition is not required only the hostel and mess fees will be taken. The same goes for SC/ST students there are no tuition fees. IITs offer several scholarships. Some scholarships include Merit-cum-Means Scholarship (MCM),Free Basic Messing, and Pocket allowances
Campus Life :
There are inter-IIT meets every where students can participate in sports, arts, dance, tech etc. There are many festivals held every year. Some are Alcheringa annual cultural festival held in February or March each year, Udgam annual E-summit, Techniche annual tech management fest, Spardha annual inter-hostel sports, Manthan inter-hostel cultural competition and many more.. Apart from that there are many clubs managed by students where you can do many things apart from academics. Like robotics, dancing, film making, and many more.
Hostel Facilities :
You get single rooms in the third year of your graduation. So, in some hostels, it might be very congested for two people in a single room. There is a college LAN connected in each room. The mess menu is not that good but you get options to buy extras in the mess itself. There is no extra process of registering in the hostel all the things are done along with the registration of the course itself.
Admission :
The admission process to IIT Guwahati for B.Tech courses involves applying through the official website of the National Testing Agency(NTA) for JEE Main and JEE Advanced exams. As an ST category student, secured admission with ST rank 91 in JEE Advanced. The application fees were Rs. 500 and Rs 1600 for Mains and Advanced respectively. JEE Mains had two attempts during my application period, JEE Advanced had two papers on a single day for 3 hours each. with exams typically held in the first half of the year.
