IIT KGP in a nutshell

Dislikes

  • I dislike the distance between the classes and halls.

Course Curriculum Overview :

I didn't want to go into the circuital or core field. That's why I opted for this course. This course has mathematics along with AI and machine learning. The faculties are good, they have a huge amount of knowledge, and also they have great experience. They give in their full efforts. There are two main exams - the first one is the midsem which is of 30% weightage and is quite easy, and the next one is the endsem exams which are a bit tough and contribute to 50% weightage.

Internships Opportunities :

There are many intership opportunities available. A student can apply to any company for internship in any year just a LOR from any professor is required. Many research internship opportunities are also available here.

Placement Experience :

The placement stats are quite good here. We have an average package of 22 LPA considering every branch. While the average package of my branch is around 30 LPA. Students can do internship in any year they want. But the college conducts it in the pre final year And the placement in the final year.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

I come from Economically Weaker section and my family income is less. So I get a full fee waiver i.e my whole tution fee is exempted. And My course is BS, so I get a 60000 scholarship by DST inspire. So, my overall fee is around 90k per year and I get a scholarship worth 60 k per year.

Campus Life :

We have two major fests here like Kshitij and the spring fest, both of them are conducted in January. In this year Kshitij was from 19-21 Jan and Spring Fest is from 26-28 Jan. Both of them are amazing. The library of IIT Kharagpur is considered to be the largest digital Library India. It has huge availability of books and journals and novels.

Hostel Facilities :

I am a boarder of Pt. Madan Mohan Malviya hall of residence. It has 24X7 supply of electricity and water. The mess meal is not very good in this hall as This hall is on the bottom ranking in comparison to other halls But still it can be used for survival.

Admission :

First of all, I appeared for JEE Mains and got a 99.71%ile and successfully qualified it. Then I appeared for JEE Advanced exam and got a total of 188 marks and a rank of 2177. After that we were contacted by Jossa for councelling. We have to put choices in that according to your preferences. All the information were conveyed by JOSSA. I have availed EWS(Economically Weaker Section)reservation benefit, which has 10% reservation. Yeah the admission process must be a little faster and the website should be able to handle more traffic at once.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I am new to this curriculum but I am happy with my decision. Median package of this year is 21 lakhs in this course and faculty are too friendly. Exams are a little on the tougher side. We will have field trips for the research purpose overall it's a very underrated branch And we can try non core if we want to...since there is a lot of free time

Placement Experience:

The campus placement is offered by CDC. After completing 2 years you get to sit in CDC interviews for internships, all the top companies for example google, BCG, McKinskey, and may others visits the college. And after 7th semesters you get to sit for placements. The highest packages goes around 2Cr. You opt for any profile SDE, data, consulting, product. I plan to get placed in product management after my degree.

Placement Experience:

Placements are good but you have to put a lot of efforts during the time of recession. Thus is the worst phase of the college life where you become stressed, selfish, and nervous. This is the tough scenario to get high packages.

Course Curriculum Overview:

It is a 5 years course. Course are quiet tougher than other B.sc colleges but it will be very effective if you are going in research field. It will also introduce you to the basic of research and it will help you in future. A habit of reading research paper are vey common in this couse work and will help in your phd. But if you dont want to pursue in research then it will be less relevant to you.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Courses at IISER Kolkata are not like usual curriculum in state or central Universities in India. IISER Kolkata 's academic curriculum is quite similar to that of US and European Universities. The focus of the curriculum is to teach and train us to make us researchers. So the courses are quite relevant if someone wants a career in research. Exams are very frequent in iiser Kolkata, apart from the mid semester and end semester exams, there are regular quizzes/class tests/surprisetests/assignments/grades tutorial problems every week.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I was already very interested in economics. My college has a healthy student to teacher ratio. For every 1teacher there is 4 students. Almost of our faculties have phD and master's done. The faculty is very interactive and makes sure the concepts are clear The exams are fairly standard and the exam timings are optimal.
