Course Curriculum Overview :
I chose this course as it was the best fitting as per my interests and my priorities. Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and computing as IIT Kharagpur is a nice blend of theoretical mathematics and Computer science courses at the same time. Term exams are taken twice a semester including mid semester exams and end semester exams.
Internships Opportunities :
In the third year of the course we are required to go for compulsory internships for which opportunities are provided by the college itself and based on our performance, we are also graded and it carries credits.
Placement Experience :
Placements are very good at all IITs especially in the old IITs and in some good branches the average packages go up to 30-35 lakhs per annum. All the big tech firms including Google, Microsoft, apple, etc.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
The fees structure does not change a lot and is normally around 1.5 lakhs per semester at IIT Kharagpur including the hostel and mess costs. I am currently a first year student so I am not involved in any job right now.
Campus Life :
The annual tech fest at IIT Kharagpur is called Kshitij and it is held every year in the month of January. The central Library at IIT Kharagpur is one of the largest in the world and has almost all kinds of famous books and journals available there. The classrooms are Air conditioned with big projectors and blackboards
Hostel Facilities :
The rooms depend on the hostels in which one stays in but mostly they are good and spacious enough. The meal quality also depends on the hostel and it usually ranges afrom bad to fair and sometimes good. Hostels are usually cheap at IITs.
Admission :
The entrance exam for all Indian Institutes of technology is the JEE Advanced exam which is taken by approximately 2.5 lakh people every year who are selected through another entrance exam called JEE main exam, earlier known as AIEEE, which is taken by approximately 10 lakhs to 12 lakhs people evey year with 2 attempts per year. I got an AIR of 710 in jee main and AIR 1196 in jee advanced exam and chose IIT Kaharagpur BS in mathematics and computing as the course to go for.
