My take on the first IIT

Dislikes

  • Semesters are pretty short(4 months almost)
  • A few mandatory courses should be elective

Course Curriculum Overview :

Currently, the faculty-student ratio is almost 1:38. In each semester, two exams are conducted, one is Midsem(30% weightage) and the End-sem(50% weightage). The remaining 20% is teachers' assessment, which the teacher can assess through attendance/class tests/assignments.

Internships Opportunities :

Students of my course take internships in various institutes like IISER, ISE, TIFR, and IITs. This is done through their individual application portal. Also, few students pursue internships under our faculty.

Placement Experience :

In my degree, students are usually placed in Finance, Computer and data structure, and Edtech. Almost half of the students pursue higher studies, so almost 50% sit for placement drive. The average package is around 14LPA. I wish to pursue a Ph.D. after an M.Sc.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

In M.Sc Mathematics, a 1000 rs per month scholarship is provided by the institute. One can avail of only one scholarship at a time. In the second year, one has the opportunity to work as a TA(Teaching Assistant) in lieu of a monthly stipend.

Campus Life :

Campus life is pretty good, allowing the students to engage in all sorts of sports and recreational activities. Each hall has its own sporting facilities. Also, central sporting facilities are spread throughout the campus for cricket football volley/basketball, TT, Tennis, etc. Also, clubs of almost every interest are present, from cooking to anime to chess. The Annual fest of our institute is Spring Fest and Kshitij, both held usually in January.

Hostel Facilities :

The rooms are equipped with basic amenities(light, fan, bed storage, etc). washrooms are usually common, each floor has a few. Wifi is 24/7, each student is entitled to one LAN port. A bed(only the wooden structure) and a table and chair is provided for each student. If not present in the room, he or she may ask for it and it will be provided. like washroom, common water purifier, water cooler, and a geyser outlet is present at each floor Mess menu is quite good and well distributed, although it depends on which hostel you are accommodated to.

Admission :

Admission was conducted through the Joint Admission Test for Masters (JAM). Then via counseling, we were provisionally admitted to this college. After verifying documents offline, our admission was permanent. The document verification process is pretty smooth.

Other Applied Colleges

Indian Institute of Science Education and Research - [IISER] | Master of Science [M.Sc] (Mathematics)

IIT KGP was a better fit for me

Course Curriculum Overview:

I love mathematics from school level. I wished to student this subjet in future and after scoring good in class 12 I took decision to study mathematics from krishnagar government college. Teachers made it easy to chose to study msc then. In msc semester exams after 4/5 months are really difficult to study, but you have to compromise with situation ,nothing to do.

Placement Experience:

Students typically become eligible for campus placements from the penultimate semester of their program. For undergraduate students, this is usually the seventh semester, and for graduate students, it could be the third semester. Google, Microsoft, Amazon, IBM, Infosys, TCS. General Electric, Siemens, Tata Motors, Larsen & Toubro. Top tech companies like Google and Microsoft typically make around 5-10 offers each. Finance firms like Goldman Sachs can make 10-15 offers.

Placement Experience:

Placements opportunity are actually very good in this college. For UG-courses, students are eligible from the 5th semester and for PG courses, from the 3rd semester onwards, they are eligible for on-campus placements. Many good companies visit campus. All the details are available on the website. The placement cell is very active and ensures a higher number of placements.

Placement Experience:

From Last semester students are eligible for appearing in campus placements. In our time that is 2021, there is not a single company visited to offer jobs in our department. But, in previous years Dr. Reddy's, Cipla, Sun Pharma, etc companies visited. Our just previous batch got approx 4 LPA packages on average.

Placement Experience:

The placement committee is working hard in the science department recently, besides engineering and arts. The students in their last year or previous year of graduation are eligible for placements. The science faculty has recently linked with AI companies like Bridge i2i, tech companies like TCS and Infosys, and banks like the CITI bank. One student has already secured her placement in the CITI bank. The engineering department is visited by frequent companies like NTPC, SAIL, Mahindra, Google, Microsoft, Compass, Ranbaxy and other prestigious MNCs and international enterprises. Almost 78% of the students get hired in on-campus recruitments and the average package is 6-7lpa in science and 12-13lpa in engineering. After completing my Master, I am thinking of getting a one-year job experience and then, opting for M.Tech.

Remarks:

Lots of positives are there to say regarding JU. It's the premier institution in West Bengal and perhaps entire eastern India for a reason. The free thinking, diversity, tolerance, political consciousness which it imbibes into its students is something everyone of them will fondly cherish when they will set foot out of those beloved gates for one last time.

Remarks:

Overall experience is good. Campus is good too. But some of the departments should be taken care of too. They are worst and after some time courses are stopped. Instead care should have taken.
