IITB and ME

Dislikes

  • The Hostels. The pest issue has to be addressed ASAP, Im fed up of looking at cockroaches, lizards and ants and mouse running around at walls.
  • The gender ratio is quite bad, very few girl students for such a prestigious institute as IITB

Course Curriculum Overview :

I chose Materials science and metallurgy because I preferred it over environmental and didn't have much interest in maths! also what I was being offered at my rank also influenced my choice to a certain extent! Now after realising how great impact materials can have on efficiency and performance me content with my choice, I get to study from professors who are exceeding at the top of their fields! The insightful and inspiring message they convey through their teachings is very rare! Faculties are full of wisdom! ratio of faculty: to students is about 1:30. Faculties keep conducting research on cutting-edge topics in their labs. The schedule for exams is shared before the start of the sem itself, and regularly attending lectures with consistency in studies is enough to get a very decent grade in my opinion.

Internships Opportunities :

The internship opportunities are immense and diverse in fields, ranging from Consulting, Finance, Software, Core engineering, and research internships as well! BCG, google, Apollo and Abott are renowned recruiters for internships! For doing a project under a professor simply reaching out to that professor and conveying your enthusiasm and interest for the subject and project should be enough to get you acquainted with a project, however, it requires a big time commitment and investing yourself into it.

Placement Experience :

Completing at least 7 sems in the insti makes you eligible for placements! we have a dedicated campus placements cell for the same which works hard to ensure students are getting placed and receive desirable packages. I think that everyone knows all the top companies that come up to IITB to offer packages like 1.5 CR 2CR, 2.5CR, and 3CR. If I had to name then it'd be Google, apple microsoft, Abbott, BCG{google the fullform}, McKinsey, Rubrick etc the companies provide very handsome packages to students average is around 30-45 LPA. around 90-95% of students get placed. I am considering doing an MBA or exploring my research interests in materials science to pursue an MS in a foreign university.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

Yearly the fees are about 3 lakhs and 25 thousand Rs, given the income of middle-class families it is a little bit high, although students do not have to face any financial restrictions of any kind for their time at the institute thanks to a tremendous amount of scholarships and financial assistance policies available, some of which are alumni funded. Students are provided with financial aid even for healthcare! We have a hospital inside the campus [IITB Hospital] which provides healthcare services free of cost to students! We have the opportunity to earn a good amount of stipend through TAships.

Campus Life :

Campus life at IITB is the best! I feel very lucky to have worked hard to reach such a wonderful place full of awesome peers. Everyone has something they excel at like some sport, chess, swimming, polo, cricket, or some knack for research or they have a hobby Almost everyone has a hobby!! Mood Indigo and TechFest are conducted in December when we get the chance to manage and ensure the fabulous operation of these fests, these fests gave me some special memories which I consider to be important to me as a person, I enjoy getting to help in something bigger than myself to take these fests to new heights! The library is one of the best I've ever seen! they have more than enough books on every scientific topic one would want to research upon at the institute, The classrooms are State of the art! they are wide and big enough to not feel congested, and Air-conditioned along with comfy seats! There are charging ports for every seat in the classroom!

Hostel Facilities :

The Hostels where sophies and thirdies reside are old and the infrastructure was before 2000s so it has a different vibe than newer hostels. Certainly due to an increase in number of students as compared to before 2000s has led to overpopulated hostels, also The buildings have a pests problem (PS:Fed up of seeing cockroaches and lizards around my hostel) Asides from that we have pretty decent facilities like air conditioned study rooms at every hostel{The go to place for a quiet environment}, a common room, lounge room{where we see IND VS PAK cricket matches}, tech room, music room, GYM as well!! Hostel is very affordable after considering all these facilities they provide! they also clean the premises and toilets on a day-to-day basis. Hostel 6 is the BEST{If you neglect those pesky little ants and cockroaches and lizards}!!!!! ONE BIG PLUS POINT of being conjested is that you're never alone, there's always friends and people around to keep you cheered up!

Admission :

One person should have a basic understanding of the fundamentals of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. Science stream in 12th is necessary, along with a decent score in JEE [Joint Entrance Examination] clear mains and a top rank in advance to secure a seat at IITB. Applying for the JoSAA seat allocation process which requires payment of the seat acceptance fee and its registering fees, googling its website would be helpful, JoSAA starts after the results of JEE advance have been released, I gave JEE mains and advance near the end of the 12th which everyone tends to do, After a few days of paying up the seat acceptance fee I got the mail from IITB regarding the further process of admission. There are no benefits of reservation except for a seat acceptance fee!! the admission process seems alright as it is.

Placement is not that good. Overall the average placement is only about 4,00,000 per year. And campus placement are there but it won't provide you high paying jobs you'll have to do that on your own. So focus more on personal skills

As I am in second year I don't have that much of idea about the placement but there are very good placements for the printing and intc branch in this college. There I will see near they got the very good packages for this branches and along with CS IT branches they got 40 to 50 lakh packages. Also the college provides the interview sessions and the placement training programs in that the experts come and give training to the students for placement programs. There are various students that are placed in with us countries like Japan Germany's and they are working in ITI and various professions.

I have also got nearly three placements. Currently, I am working in Accenture with a package of 6.5 lpa. I have experienced a decent placement process which was very systematic in that every or each of the students can get placed. For placements, SKNCOE is the best in Maharashtra.
