Remarks :
The management is doing well in terms of administration and giving liberty to students to maintain the university as a bright place.
Entrance Preview :
I wrote BITSAT and scored 364 out of a total of 498. I opted for this because of the amazing coding culture and students here.
Course Curriculum Overview :
The course structure is well organized. Starting with basic science and engineering foundation courses in the first year, the curriculum gives stream specific courses in the subsequent years, with 2nd year having a basic introduction to the specific industry. This is followed by a Practice School Internship in the summer break which gives an early introduction to the practical environment. The third year offers advanced courses, followed by optional summer internships. There are electives in the last year along with a 6 month Practice school or Thesis option. Electives and research projects can be taken up by students from 2nd year on wards as per the interest of the students.
Internships Opportunities :
Yes there are two to three practice schools along with optional internships. There are several different companies in different cities across India and the companies are well established and renowned.
Placement Experience :
The placements can come in forms of Pre-Placement Offer from internships or simply in the Placement Session. Several renowned companies come here and offer packages that are one of the best in the country.
College Events :
There are several fests here, including the performing and visual arts festival of waves, the sports fest Spree, the technological fest Quark and inter hostel competitions in Zephyr. The turnout is huge and includes people from other colleges as well and several popular celebrities and successful people come to the campus to enlighten and entertain the audience.
Fee Structure And Facilities :
The fees is a bit higher than other institutes at the same level. However, the facilities provided are up to the mark and the experience is worth the money. There are options for loans and several scholarships that students can avail and overcome the burden of extra fees by trying to complete the course in less than average time.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
There is a merit scholarship, a merit cum need scholarship and several other external programs available that are ready to provide financial aid.
Campus Life :
Gender ratio in the campus is low. There are several men and very few women as compared to the men. There are several outings and events each month as part of different clubs and departments in the university and several projects and workshops keep happening every week. The students are tolerant to other people since most of them are from different parts of the country and understand the differences in case of religion, race, ethnicity etc.
Hostel Facilities :
Hostel rooms are single occupancy and are provided with sufficient furniture and ports required for comfortable stay. Bathrooms are commonly shared. The entire campus is residential. Mess food is also good as compared to other institutes in the country.
Alumni/Alumna :
Seniors here are extremely helpful to the juniors. As a fresher, I never encountered a senior who wasn't ready to guide and mentor me. They have Peer Mentor ship programs and the clubs and departments treat their juniors as a part of their family. The alumni network of BITS is very strong and people are doing well all across the world.
Exam Structure :
Exams are not very tough, although there is relative grading. Most days are chilled out and exams only occur twice a semester-one as Mid Sems and other as Comprehensive Exams. Besides, there are several quizzes and home assignments given to the students that keeps them on their toes and yet find the time to relax. Work and play balance is optimal here.
Admission :
I registered for the BITSAT exam which was held online in May. After getting the results at the end of June, I payed the registration fees and came to the campus, where I had to fill simple forms and register my courses. The process was overall very simple and hassle free.
Faculty :
The faculty is hardworking and tries its best to help the students, though in practicality, there are certain aspects where it could improve, in terms of education and making the subject more interesting to the students. Other than that, I feel the professors are qualified enough and provide the best that they can, to the students.
