Brief of IIT Roorkee

Remarks :

You need to qualify JEE Advance exam to enter this college and you will be eligible for this exam when your clear JEE main exam. The application form is released on the NTA site and JEE Advance site. All the information is released on this website. Reservation not availed but there is a reservation for EWS, OBC, SC, ST, and female category too. Apart from this, there are also other reservations like defense quota, etc. One thing that can be done is to provide courses of study for all colleges beforehand so that they can have a good idea of how the branch of a specific college is.

Course Curriculum Overview :

I wanted to pursue a Software engineer so I opted for the CS branch. Faculty to student ratio is approx 1:40. Faculties are highly qualified and have done at least a Ph.D. from different reputed colleges. Also, they have an interest in teaching that's why they have chosen to teach otherwise they could have been easily employed in big firms. They have all the knowledge and also teach pretty well but sometimes when you lose track then it could be difficult to catch up to them. Exams and semester schedules are provided before the start of the semester and exams are conducted as per the schedule. But yes exams were quite regular. Also if you study throughout the year then exams are pretty easy to score.

Internships Opportunities :

A variety of roles is offered for an internship too ranging from software developer to consulting. Companies like ITC, Google, Microsoft, Adobe, etc. The stipend depends on the jobs offered. Projects are very helpful for internships. The outcome is that you have a clear idea of what you have not to do or what you want to do.

Placement Experience :

Students are eligible for placement 1 year before the termination of their course. Companies like JN street, Google, Microsoft, Uber, etc visit. 1200 offers were made at the placement time. Highest package: 1.5 Crore per annum Average package: 15 lakhs per annum The jobs were offered in a variety of ranges ranging from software engineer to consulting. Approx 85% gets placed. Software engineer

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

I won't comment on the fee hike policy but the cost to study is worth it. You will be worth it after 4/5 years as per the fees invested. Some scholarships like DALMIA, Panasonic, Microsoft, Aluminis, etc. Financial assistance can be avail from different banks which charges less interest or zero interest. Job is not provided on campus but you can surely check out jobs online and also near the college which offers stipend based on the work.

Campus Life :

The annual cultural fest is THOMSON and the tech fest is Cognizance and they happen to be in February and march. Almost all sorts of books are available in the library. Also, you can issue some of them for the whole semester too. Classrooms are Hitech with wifi, whiteboard, blackboard, projector, audio system and also with good quality infrastructure. Almost all sorts of sports and extracurricular activities are there on campus. Ranging from football to swimming and from music to debating. Almost all the groups/clubs/website is run by student bodies apart from administrative work.

Hostel Facilities :

Rooms are decent with a bed, table, chair, light, cupboard, self, fan, switchboard, and window. Rooms are single and double occupancy. Meals are pretty good and the menu is changed monthly after taking reviews from students. Hostels are allocated randomly and are pretty much affordable with 7000 rent for a semester. People here don't rent a room or PG instead they prefer to stay in campus hostels.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The computer science branch has various subjects like DBMS , OS ,ML , which I feel entertaining to study about. It feels good. The subjects deal with the real life problem. The frequency of exam in our college is quite good. Mid sem and then end sem, no sessionals.

In this course the placement rate is low but during the 3rd and final year you can get the chance of foreign exchange programs. It requires overall CGPA above 7.5 to get in this program. I think this is a very good opportunity if you want to go to foreign countries in future.
