PhD from the oldest engineering institute of India

Remarks :

IIT roorkee being one of the top technical institute of country has to be one of the choices of many engineering students. Apart from being the oldest engineering institute of India it gives students the exposure they want in terms of the research facilities, experienced Facilities and a well setteld campus as well. After in person discussion with some seniors and faculties I decided to join this premiere institute.

Course Curriculum Overview :

During the phd program one has to complete atleast 9 grade points for courses in his/her 1st year. One can opt for all these courses in 1st semester or they can take two semester depending upon their intrest. Most of the faculties are well experienced and have industrial experience as well. Many young and enthusiastic faculties are also part of this big group.

Placement Experience :

For pg students many companies like Intel Qualcomm visit the institute. Students have multiple options for dream jobs as they offer a well amount of money as well. After PhD I plan have some industrial experience in a well known company offering some good package. And then I might to for academic jobs to share the knowledge with students as well

Fee Structure And Facilities :

As an research scholar we receive an amount of 31k per month and in turn apart from one's research work he/she has to do some teaching assistant ship. This might include labs or course responsibilities. Accomodation is good. Most of the phd students are allotted single bed rooms and meal quality varies for different hostel.

Campus Life :

Though dur to this pandemic I haven't been exposed to much of the cultural life but in this very short time I have also become a part of one of the groups working for children welfare and rights. There are many clubs working in different fields one can opt for any club depending upon their intrest.

Hostel Facilities :

As a PhD student we are allotted single person bedroom. Students are allotted hostels depending upon their degree program. One can also change hua/her rooms/hostels if faces any issues.Mess mess changes weekly and food quality is fine.Going for rented accomodation might not be a good idea as it will be cost more and one might miss all the Facilities that are free to use in the hostel accomodation.

Placement Experience:

From the 3rd semester of the course, the students are eligible for the college placement session. We all know that the IITs are known for their campus placements with very high packages for Jobs. The college placement quality is awesome because the institution is the best university, and placement also has a very high percentage. The college has a record of 85 percent selection in Placement and the remaining 15% are those who leave the placement sessions to do something else or open any start-up. The college's highest placement offer is 2 crore per annum and the average wage placement is 30- 35 lacs per annum. The main recruiting companies are Snapdragon, Amazon, Google, etc. My plans are different I want to become a college professor.

The applicant must have cleared NET JRF to get admission in the PhD program at CSIR. Only top rank holders are offered a seat since there are only 10 seats for the program. I was preparing for the NET exam for almost one year. I was lucky to secure the rank.

Placement Experience:

CSIR has pretty good placement records. A PhD student will earn during his doctorate, and even post that, a package equivalent to those “high paying” corporate jobs.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course structure is very apt and thorough. The course helped me reflect and adapt as per the course requirement. We spent most of our time in the library.

Getting a Ph.D. in IITs is depends on your research area and your interest. I have done my M.Tech from IIT Hyderabad after which I applied for Ph.D. admission to IIT Roorkee. Where followed by a technical interview I got admission. I have qualified GATE-2013 and GATE-2017 however, Being an M.tech degree holder from IIT Hyderabad helped me a lot in getting a Ph.D. Although, these days GATE is not mandatory for Ph.D. admission if you are an M.Tech degree holder.

The college infrastructure is best, However, the location is not good as compared to IIT Delhi or Mumbai. Moreover, the weather condition is extreme here. The management is good and they care too much for the students.
