IIT JEE, Two tests during 2009. Direct merit list from 2 exams. No interviews probable moving list in the wait list of other programs.
Course Curriculum Overview :
The course curriculum was very balanced. It focuses on research and also basic courses to provide exposure to various new segments. Electives can be taken from the course pool and a minor degree can also be achieved upon fulfilling the credit requirements.
Internships Opportunities :
Our college has a compulsory internship at the end of 3rd year. The interviews for the same are taken during feb-mar of the year. The general stipend is around 30k.
Placement Experience :
Placement process takes place in two cycles. One a brief 10 day period where maximum people get placed and the other cycle where companies come during the second term of the academic year. Most of the top companies come in for recruitment. Highest salaries can be around INR 1.5Cr
College Events :
SpringFest and Kshituj are two main fests of Kharagpur. SF being cultural fest and KTJ is the techno management festival. They have huge budgets and students all over the country come and participate. The other fest is Shourya which is a sports fest.
Fee Structure And Facilities :
Fees during our time was around 45000 per semester including 25000 of tuition fee. The recent changes have increased the fee by more than 200 percent. 8 terms the sem fee is same almost. Now the fee is around 2 lakhs for the same. Mess bill was inclusive in the fees.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
I did not apply for any scholarship. There is a Merit cum Means scholarship offered and M.Sc students are provide with stipend in their last year as inspire scholarship.
Hostel Facilities :
The hostels are two types. One are the old hostels and other being the new hostels. The culture at IIT KGP is the Hall culture where you complete with other halls throughout the year. Old hostels have a decent facility and new hostels are pretty good. The fun lies in Old hostels.
Alumni/Alumna :
IIT KGP has a strong alumni base in all sectors. A strong network can be maintained even after graduating from IITKGP.
Exam Structure :
It was very chilled out curriculum and people manage the exams even with a single day prepartion, provided the person is regular to classes. The exams were also easy/moderate in most of the courses and F grade means the course needs to be repeated. The chances are few that a student is failed despite good efforts.
Faculty :
Excellent faculty and dedicated faculty advisors for all the problems a student might face in the institute. My courses were in Electrical Electronics and Computer Science. All the profs were really helpful and provide necessary information to carry out research.
