Yukta Maheswari's Review On ISM Dhanbad - Indian Institute Of Technology - [IITISM], Dhanbad

Remarks :

I applied for all the IITs in India. The selection in our college is based on our rank. So after clearing jee advance I filled the counseling form and got IIT ISM DHANBAD because of my rank. For admission, we were required to fill our preference list on thr josaa site, and then after 6 rounds of counselling, we got our colleges.

Course Curriculum Overview :

The choice of course was not exactly mine it was given to me because of my rank. Do not know the exact ratio but I am sure of the fact that the number of a faculty member are enough compared to students. All the faculty members have Phd in their respective fields. Many have the honor on the subjects. After almost 2 weeks we have small exams and after 4 quizzes we have our end semester examination. The level of the paper is from moderate to difficult. In few subjects we have a time shortage otherwise the questions are according to the time given.

Internships Opportunities :

There is a lot of internship offer from our college. This year approximately 200 students got intership in the first go. Did not have my own internship so I am clueless about the projects and outcomes to clarify the task.

Placement Experience :

Students become eligible in the 6th semester for on-campus placement. All the big companies like Google, Microsoft, Amazon, etc come to our college for placement offers. This year the highest package was 90lakhs and the average package is 12-15lakhs. 94? students got placed by on-campus offers. My plan after getting the degree is to get a nice-paid job and settle in life.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

Though the fee of our college is 2.3lakhs per annum there is a high privilege for fee waiver students. For income below 5lakh, we get compensation of 66.6 and for income below 1 lakh, the student needs to pay 7000only, which is, of course, a great help for the families. Meanwhile, there are many scholarships for students which help them reduce their fees. In this time of lockdown, the college even reduces the fee by not taking electric charges and lab charges. There is a lot of opportunity for jobs and internships in our college.

Campus Life :

Not been to the campus yet so cannot be highly correct about the campus life. But there are many fests like Basant, artiflex, cultural fest, etc. We have hot an online excess to the library which is in fact very useful. There are a lot of clubs in the college and all are very admiring. They do inductions and then workshop before choosing anyone. And they have a very systematic way of running. We have come to know that there are many sports played on campus but we have no personal experience with it.

Hostel Facilities :

Not been to the hostel or mess yet. But have seen some YouTube videos and photos from seniors and found that the room is spacious and mess food is average. The view from the room is highly mesmerizing. There is greenery everywhere and nature just makes the room a better place to live. There are two people accommodation in a room. The hostel is of our college only so there is no risk of anything or no problem of college being far.

Placement Experience:

As a student of the 4th year program, one can be eligible for placements after 6th sem or by passing 3rd year and after 4th sem/2nd year, students of 3rd year program are eligible for placement processes. almost 150 companies had visited this year and around 500 students are placed in many companies like cognizant, byjus, TCS, Deloitte etc. maximum package offered is 11 LPA and the average package is around 3.5-4 LPA. on a personal note, I want to pursue MTech after BTech, so for me, these placement record somehow not matters but if someone wants to go for higher studies, this college is best suited for them as because it provides all necessary things by which you can easily get into top IIITs.

Placement Experience:

In BIT Sindri, placements are good. In my college students are eligible from 3rd year to sit on-campus placement. They can also go for internships from the first year itself. Around 50+ companies visited in the year 2020. This is a little bit less due to covid 19. Some of the companies that visit regularly are Tata Steel, Vedanta, Aditya Birla group, TCS, TCS digital, Ericsson, etc. Highest package is 13 lakhs p.a being offered by Tata steel and the average package is around 6 lakhs p.a. Here around 50 to 60 percent of students are placed each year. In 2024 I will get my degree. My future plans are that I will give GATE exam. I want to be in under 100 rank so that I could get a job in PSUs or get MTech admission in IITs.
