Remarks :
Everything was very good as it's structural and establidhed. They manage everything according to the rules and procedure.
Course Curriculum Overview :
Course structure was very tough and strict where you have to follow the topics regularly and get used to professors. Exam structure was divided into 4. Two quizzes, One Mid and One final semester. Yes, it's research driven when someone is really in pursuing further studies in the same core. Everyone has to do an internship or industrial visit after their third year of Bachelor's as it's a mandatory course and one has to do it to pass that course. Coming to placements, most of the companies will be from IT (Software) and few core companies and other functional roles.
Placement Experience :
Yes, the institute take certain steps to help students get placed by conducting some coding practices and trainings from the seniors who get placed because most of the companies coming will be looking for software developers. Professors do provide good references to students for internship programs. The internship experience will play vast role during the interviews. For some students, internship turns into pre placement offers too.
College Events :
Techinche is the technical fest of IIT Guwahati and it brings students from all over india and top entrepreneurs from all over the world to give guest lectures.Alcheringa is the cultural fest of IIT Guwahati and it's the biggest festival in north east india. It sees a footfall of 60,000 people in the campus in the three days of it's fest.
Fee Structure And Facilities :
There will be 8 semesters for bachelor's programs. Each semester fee will be between 50000 - 60000 INR. So, on an average the bachelor fee in our college for 4 years will be around 4.5-5 Lakhs. We have to register ourself online for each semester we will be eligible to take. But on the day of registration you have to be in campus and we can pay the fee in cash or online in the portal itself while taking up the semester.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
Unfortunately I was not eligible for any scholarship. But, yes there were different scholarships and educational loans available one can consider. Scholarships for poor and merit students and loans were available with no interest for the 4 years.
Campus Life :
Campus was very good. They spend around 2 crores each year for the maintanence of the campus. They will be auditorium, library, computer centre which any student can make good use of. And coming to sports, there are different ground and indoor practices available for all different sports separately as we have a campus of approximately 650 acres. Around 67% of boys and 33% of girls will be there in the campus.
Hostel Facilities :
Yes, there are about 8 hostel's for boys and two for girls. They maintain in such a way that every hostel will be allotted with the different branch of students so that there will be a good interaction one among overall. I was allotted in a hostel named umiam. Each person will be given a single room with lan facility. Food was good too.
Alumni/Alumna :
Alumni network really help a lot as the college really maintains good relationship with everyone. They even come for placements and take good number of students. They help in any kind of funds if the college is facing some bad time too.
Admission :
I got an all India rank of 2541 in the JEE Advanced which I wrote after qualifying JEE Mains. I selected my preference college and course options in the portal and waited for which college I would end up with. Till the second round of counselling, I got B.Tech in Civil Engineering at IIT Madras. In the final (third) counselling, I was promoted to the upper option which is B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering at IIT Guwahati. I went to IIT Kharagpur for registration process and joined at IIT Guwahati in June 2013.
Faculty :
Faculty was good because one has to complete their Ph.D's in any of the IIT's to get into IIT faculty. So, they will have good basics and conceptual understanding. Some professors really interact well if they find students who are really interested in their field of study. They give such students some kind of projects which will be useful bothwise.
