My qualifications are I cleared GATE (RANK 47), CSIR NET(RANK 12). IISC is the best research institute in India for doing Ph.D. You have to clear NET to be eligible. But you can fill up form for the admission process before the NET results are out. There is IISC entrance also. Then there are at least two rounds of rigours interview. Only then you are given opportunity to join Iisc.

There is course work. You and your Ph.D supervisor will decide the courses to take. There are more than 30 departments. Each department has at least 15 professors. Each and every subject of science and engineering are offered in different courses.

There are a number of fellowships are given by the institute and government of India. The junior research fellowship is 26000 INR for first two years of PhD. It increases to 28000 for the next three years.

There are two options for a student after finishing the course: join a company or go for postdoctoral research. The placement opportunities are best in India. If you have a degree from IISC, you are often the first choice of the companies for a position. The postdoctoral research is also highly lucrative where you can apply in different countries in the best labs.

There are so many events all round the year. Samanway, and many otherfests are there. If is quite big and good. The big bands come to Iisc very often. There are many classical concerts and dance concerts round the year. There are many societies that can be joined.

There are multiple ways to get loans in Iisc. Every student gets scholarship. There are ug students, integrated PhD students, PhD students and summer students. There are post docs. Every one has their own fellowship from Iisc or government.

The campus life is full of activities. There are bands, drama groups. There is no discrimination of any kind. People are very friendly. The professors are mostly friendly. Be careful about some professors. Know about the professor reputation before joining.

The alumni group is the most diverse and best in India. I am in touch with many of them. Each and every student who finished their courses here join alumni network and cell. There attend conferences and alumni meeting in Iisc and reunite with their friends.

You have to pass a comprehensive viva in second year. Then there is thesis committee and Ph.D viva. You have to clear at least 12 credit courses in the first 2 years.
