Remarks :

A no. Of conferences organised to expand the research collaboration in the world. Many scientists, nobel laureates come to give lectures. You get a lot of exposure to the research in few years. I enrolled as a Int. PhD. Student in chemical science. You get opportunity to do any experiment in the lab. Its like you are given a lab and play with science. Emense machines of crores are available for students like Titan-TEM, AFM, FESEM, NMR, HPLC, ICP.

Entrance Preview :

The institute conducts exam for Int. PhD. Then there are 1-2 rounds of interviews. Also, you are allowed to go directly to interview round if you are in top 100 of IIT-JAM. JNCASR conducts summer internships. They give PG diploma certificate for POCE POBE program. So i came to know about this college. I had been selected for the int. PhD program in IITB and IISER pune. But when i compared IISC and other institutions what i found was less no. of students in JNCASR and high rate of learning. The facilities, campus, labs, library fascinated me. The research expertise of profs are good to be interacted. You can be theoretician, chemist, physicists, biologist even if you have opted for Int. PhD in chemical science. You are free to explore any field.

Course Curriculum Overview :

If you are straightforward that you want to do PhD for sure in science then go for it. Within 1st year of your course you can learn all the techniques in the field of research. You can take any course as elective from the sister institute IISc.

Internships Opportunities :

I haven't done any internship. However there are many students exchange programs for which institution doesn't has any problem.

Placement Experience :

You have two choices after PhD. Apply for post doc. Your guide will help you to reach Stanford, Cambridge, Oxford, Max-plancks. Other choice is you go chase your dreams Be industrialist. Set up your own business with your idea.

College Events :

Research institute manages to organised hostel day, freshers day, festival celebration. It's a place purely to do research. No one stops also if you have time to conduct an manae these events. I have been in cultural and technical communities but the response was not that good.

Fee Structure And Facilities :

Yes. You get a stipend of 15k for masters students and 25k for PhD student.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

15000 per month - MS student 25000 per month - PhD student 28000 per month - last 2 years of PhD. Plus you have funds from institutions to go foreign conference once on their expenses.

Campus Life :

I think nothing can stop to you to what you love. You are free to do anything in Bangalore and explore your extracurricular activities BUT not this institution as it is meant for research.

Hostel Facilities :

Yes. First 2 years you get double room. After 2 years you get single room. Around 300 per month. Quite cheap. Food is something which depends on taste buds. You can join the mess committee to change menu or ask the members. For 90rs you get 4 nice meals. But being a North Indian i love spicy food so I generally make my own food in the students kitchen equipped with induction cook top, fridge, microwave.

Alumni/Alumna :

Not that well. Alumni do come to give some seminars to tell what research they have done and achieved in science.

Exam Structure :

It is a up to you when you want to go lab. I work in night time. The hostel is inside the campus. You can go any time lab. Exams are not a thing here learning is more important here.

Faculty :

Every faculty holds a degree of doctorate and has done post doctorate. They are interactive. You can see the dynamic nature of Bharat Ratna Prof. C. N. R. Rao. He is the source of constant inspiration for young minds.

Admission:

To get admission in the dual integrated course of this college the student must have graduated with a honors degree of B.Tech or BSc. related to the relevant field the student wants to apply in. There will be an entrance exam held in December every year, and the interview for the same will be in May with the head of departments for respective courses.

The institute provides an internship programme post completion of the doctoral degree so the students get a hands on experience in the field of research. The students are given a freedom to choose the area of research of their choice and allowed to explore work opportunities in that field.

Remarks:

Research is more of an independent pursuit, so I do not depend on university for any major part of my work. Only for passing the documents related to work, it takes a lot of time, which leads to delay in fellowships, grants for research. The system should be made more transparent and student centered.

I had appeared and cleared GATE, CSIR-UGC, ICMR and IISc entrance tests. My GATE rank was 87 and I also have cleared the remaining 3 exams I have mentioned above. I did not apply for any other institute, as I wanted to do my PhD here in this institute only. The reason behind choosing this institute is simple, "It's the best".

Admission:

I had applied through GATE exam and also had written institute entrance test (discontinued after 2012). I was called for interview into 3 departments of which I wanted to join the Molecular Biophysics Unit where I am now. After clearing the 2 rounds of interviews and after getting selected for PhD course here, I had written and cleared CSIR-UGC NET and ICMR exams and cleared them as well. THe admission process here is very simple and straight forward. You would be called for interview if have at least one of the qualifications mentioned, then you need to clear 1 or 2 rounds of interviews based on the department.
