Course Curriculum Overview :

UG and PG students need to take 2-3 mandatory subjects based on his/her department. Few other subjects are also required to take in each semester from the interdisciplinary areas. Additionally, there are training, visits, internships, short-term courses, projects, etc.

Placement Experience :

Over 90% of students from BTech get jobs. The company list and their intake are given every year in the Institute website. Salary reaches above 1 cr INR. About 70% of MTech got the job. Few PhD also get the job in the college placement drive.

Tech feast annually in January. Spring feast also annually in January. Durga puja long vacation. In kali puja or Diwali, there will be Illumination in every hostel. Additionally there are hall day, holi, Saraswati puja, etc. Anyone can participate. Family members can also be called.

Fee Structure And Facilities :

Fees should be paid semester-wise within the due date. Payment is online through ERP. Fees depend on the course. For PhD, it is around 35, 000 per semester including mess charges. It includes tution fees, mess charge, internet, water, electricity, movie, gym, library, etc. It is much higher for BTech and MTech because of high tution fees. Several scholarships are available for underprivileged students. A loan facility is also available.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

Several scholarship opportunities are there. Notice will be given from time to time in every department. About 50% of students get scholarships, who are mostly from low-income families.

Campus Life :

Girls are less, it will be around 15% in total. All live and enjoy in the sprawling green campus. Students all over India you can notice. No discrimination. 22 hostels are there. Few are exclusively for females. The cycle is popular on the campus. Roads are ok. Several open grounds are available for sports. Additionally few courts are also available. Gymkhana is also there. Each hostel also has a small gym facility.

Hostel Facilities :

The hostel is mandatory for all. Rooms are sharing-based, with 3-4 borders in each room. Free wifi, lan for all. Mostly attached washroom. For PhD scholars, rooms are single. Foods are available in each hostel. Rooms are spacious.

Alumni/Alumna :

IIT Kgp has a large network of alumni. They are always helpful and cooperative. They talk nicely with the juniors.

Admission :

For PhD admission, there will be initial shortlisting based on B. Tech and M. Tech marks. Then candidates will be called for the written test. Shortlisted candidates will be allowed to sit in an interview. The final selection is based on academic records, written test marks, and interview performances.

Faculty :

All faculty members are PhD holders. They are obviously qualified in their corresponding area. Most professors teach well in class. Interactive and comprehensive. Exams are also there in regular intervals. Short-term courses are based on certification.

Placement Experience:

The students are eligible for campus placements in the pre-final year of their course. A large number of companies visit our campus which includes Google, Microsoft, Samsung etc. The highest package offered was that of 1 crore while the average package is about 7-8 lakhs per annum. The placement is close to 100%. After getting a degree, I will sit for campus placements as well will apply offline to Academic Institutions.

Placement Experience:

In the UG courses, the placements start from the 6th semester, while for Ph.D. students, it is generally in their final year when they get eligible to appear for the placements. IIT Kharagpur has a very strong alumni network and generally, all the big shot companies like Google, Amazon, Microsoft, Honeywell, Scheider, BCG, Barclays, and several PSUs visit for the placements. The average package is around 7-14 lakhs p.a. and the highest package of 1 crore is offered every year and almost 90-95% of students from the various programmes bags a placement. For Ph.D. students, generally, some core companies offer placements, while most of the students opt for becoming faculty in prestigious engineering colleges of the country. Although. after completing my curriculum, I will be joining a post-doctoral programme at a foreign university.

Remarks:

First of all this college infrastructure is good enough.More focus should be laid on sports as well as on the provision of new equipments in all the laboratories. The political side is also be prevented. The campus is ragging free. Lift facilities are available. The college is decent but with more care and support it has the capability to achieve greater heights
