Review for UICT, North Maharashtra University, Jalgaon

Remarks :

The students have a very huge potential. However, lack of resources and parochial outlook towards technical education has depleted the quality of engineers produced from the college. The college is below par for a very active student. Hence I would recommend future students to try other options before choosing this college. I would specially like to mention people coming from metropolitan cities. Kindly, avoid taking admission in this college as it will surely hamper your outlook and would not challenge you at all. Instead it would frustrate you over its conventional way of functioning.

Course Curriculum Overview :

The coursework is easy but the profeesors make it a little difficult. Research is being promoted in PG level but not on UG level. We had MCQ based exam structure however lately they have reintroduced the theory based exams.

Placement Experience :

The only positive things I could state is that my college provided 6 months of internship opportunity in the final year of the UG course. I did not chose to go out in the industry but I chose to research in the college itself. Many of my friends did go to industries for internships and were given considerable amount for their monthly expense while internship. However, most of them had industry contacts hence they managed to land such internships.

College Events :

There's a cultural fest that they call it 'Open house' it's either in February end of March beginning. The fest is honestly very average in terms of content and discepline. The crowd that arrives is not decent enough to keep the fest without troubles. We have a few other events f sucha as freshers, farewell etc. But the catch is all these student events for example freshers and farewell were funded by students without any assistance from the college. Infact, we had to invite teachers who did not even pay for the attending the event and leave a couple of our financially weak friends because they couldn't afford to pay the entre fees.

Fee Structure And Facilities :

I was in open category and I had to pay around 25000/year for my fees. There are several scholarships for caste students and people coming from under previleged sections of the society. The fees still remains the same as it is a government institution. It was affordable for most of them because there were only a handful of open caterogy students and rest students were aid through college's earn and learn scheme.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

There was 'Earn and Learn' scheme provided by my university in which students from under previleged sections would get a chance to fund their education. This is a huge boost for them and I was happy as many of my friends enjoyed this need based scholarship.

Campus Life :

Sports were good. I was myself part of the football team for two consecutive years. Lots of opportunities for students to play a particular sport. The labs were very outdated in terms of equipments. In a batch of 78 sutdnts 15-18 students are girls. This would be the average ratio of UG chemical engineering department of UICT. Mostly. Here people come from economically challenged sections of the society but are very generous in terms of helping each other. The best part is unity of the students association. Tolerance Regards to gender was very very less. It would be very difficult for a guy and a girl to sit anyway alone and study or have a talk without being judged by fellow profeesors or students. The region is very conventional in terms of their thoughts on relationships.

Hostel Facilities :

The hostel was good interms of the fee structure. Annually only 5000 rupees has to be paid to get a room. The facilities like mess were a little below average but cannot blame the authorities as most of the students could only afford 1100/ month for mess fees. There would mostly be electricity in the room. Power cuts would be there but not for so long. They have 3 cot rooms, 2 cot room and 1 cot rooms. There are in all 3 boys hostel in the campus. I lived in the 3 cot room for a couple of years. The only drawback is you will have to share your bed with someone as the hostel capacity is less and there are lots of students. So, 3 cot room had around 5-6 students in them. This applies to the rest of rooms as well. Overall, satisfied with the hostel.

Alumni/Alumna :

Alumni interaction is none. There has never been any kind of alumni meets. There use to be UPSA, which means UICT Past Students Association. However only one meeting was done when I was in the second year of my undergraduate. Recently, they have started contacting alumni and are calling them to revisit college and give their experience. However, it's still very far away from reaping any results. Technology department on the other hand has a lot of alumni meets and has reaped results of these meetings.many of the students have been either placed by seniors of their department or their guide. However, this is not the case with chemical engineering department of UICT.

Admission :

I had filled the Cap round in 2017 and I was awarded a seat in this college in my second round. I had to compulsory take the seat as it was in my top 3 priority list. I chose chemical engineering here as the name of the institute suggested it was a very good institute in chemical engineering.

Faculty :

The faculty were highly qualified from reputed institutions but lacked to guide students in terms of curriculum interaction and application of the subjects. A few profeesors were very good in teaching and showed immense interest in helping student understand the subject in detail. However, there were a few profeesors who evaded taking lectures altogether.

Placement Experience:

Students become eligible for campus placement from the 7th semester itself. Last year a ton of companies visited the campus right from TCS, Infosys, and Accenture to ZS associates, Veritas, etc. There is a good opportunity for nontech branches also in the college, the package is not high but it is good. According to the college, almost 78% of students got the placements. The highest packages were 45 LPA Amazon, 44 LPA Microsoft, and 36.5 LPA D.E.Shaw. The majority of the placements above 12 LPA were off campus, few were on campus. My plans after getting a degree are to be placed in good company with a good package

Course Curriculum Overview:

All the students are given electives to choose and we also have the compulsory courses too, common for all. The electives could be chosen based on varied interests of students and are very engaging. The compulsory courses are chosen and kept very wisely and are essential for computer science and engineering students. The courses and evaluation plans are very well created and curated for students to be able to solve real world problems too later in professional and personal lives. There aren't much suggestions and areas to improve as of now. Exams and tests are conducted almost every two weeks. This keeps the students keen on learning and practicing all the while and doesn't let them slag in between the semester. The exams are monitored from the headquarters at Pune, and hence all is kept under check and maintained.

As our college provides placement on our Campuses the opportunity to grab placement is quite simple but not much as there is competition among 3 colleges, although the maximum students who get placed through campus placements, is around 60%.
