Remarks :
Positive Remarks - Great college to have an equal balance of fun and proper professional education. Good faculty support. Negative Remarks - Too much competition from the other students. Survival of the fittest in terms of academics.
Course Curriculum Overview :
The course curriculum is flexible for the first year. Students get to decide on when the tests can be scheduled. The first year involves the revision of the basics done in engineering and students get to explore subjects from other departments as well. The core subjects of the respective departments starts from the 2nd year. The exam structure is as follows - 2 cycle test (each 20 marks), 1 assignment (10 marks) and an end semester exam for 50 marks.
Placement Experience :
Placements and Job opportunities are easy to come by considering the fact that National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli is the top NIT in India. Tech giants such as Microsoft, Goldman Sachs, Amazon, DE Shaw, Arcesium, etc. Are some companies that come for Placements with both Internship opportunities and Job offers. Our college also provides internship, mostly for research and not job oriented. We can expect stipend only if we get an internship through the companies that come for Internships. College internships provide only guidance. They do not provide stipend.
College Events :
We have 4 major Festivals in our college, 1. Festember - The annual cultural fest of NIT Tiruchirappalli 2. Sportsfete - The annual inter-departmental sports competition 3. NITTFEST - The annual inter-departmental cultural fest 4. Pragyan - The Techno-Managerial festival of NIT Tiruchirappalli Apart from these, we have various Departmental symposiums conducted throughout the year.
Fee Structure And Facilities :
Fee structure is flexible for the students who got admission through JOSAA. Fee structure is expensive for students who got admitted through the DASA scheme. (almost 4 times as expensive) Recently, the Hostel fees have also been hiked for proper maintenance.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
I am not aware of scholarships offered by the college. But some of the scholarships offered for students from outside the college is Jiteshraj scholarship, which offers 1.5 lakhs INR for one student from the first year who shows exceptional talent in the field of Innovation and must have an all-round performance in academics, sports and extra-curricular activities. I have not availed any scholarships.
Campus Life :
Lab sessions are mandatory for every student from every department to get a first hand experience in engineering from various fields. The labs are well equipped with the right equipments and the lab assistants help the students in using them. Sports facilities are open for all students with a well maintained Gym, Swimming pool, Badminton court, Tennis court, Basketball court and a big Cricket ground. There is a Café Coffee Day in the campus where students can spend their leisure time playing chess and Table Tennis. There is a Student Activity Center building which supports the various Technical clubs in the college.
Hostel Facilities :
Considering that the Institute is over 55 years old, the Hostel infrastructure is fairly new. Some Hostels are old and some are new. The Hostel facilities are excellent with proper sports facilities, 24/7 Electricity and Water supply.
Alumni/Alumna :
The alumnis are well connected with the college administration. There is an association called RECAL (Regional Engineering College Alumnis) which fund the various technical clubs in our college. There are various Guest Lectures from the prominent Alumni frequently.
Admission :
There are 2 ways, 1. Through JOSAA, for students who did their schooling in India. They have to write the Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) mains which is conducted after the completion of class 12. Students with lesser rank get the opportunity to study in NIT Trichy. 2. Through DASA scheme, for students who studied in other nations apart from India. They have to write the SAT Subject tests for Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. The exam is 800 marks for each subject and people who score high marks out of 2400 get the opportunity to get admitted here. Students have to apply through the respective online portal for seat allocation and have to fill the necessary details of the student along with Marks, Education background, certificates and compulsory documents required for admission. Students have to fill their choice based on the Institute they would like to apply and the course which they look forward to studying. The admission fees for DASA students is 4 times higher than the students getting admitted through JOSAA.
Faculty :
The faculties are well versed with the subjects they teach and are easily approachable for clarification of doubts. They also helo students in doing projects and writing Scientific and Research papers which gets published as journals. They are helpful in terms of guiding the students in the professional path that they want to follow.
