How would you describe your leadership style?

I believe in democratic way of working and ensure everyone participation including management people, students, teachers and other staff members, whenever any big decision is taken for the college. Also, in our college, we have decision-making bodies at various levels starting from Management Board at the top level followed by Staff Council which consists of our principal departments and me. Apart from this, various departmental committees to take care of department activities and issues and student union bodies to take care of students needs are present in campus. And all this is to ensure that everyone remain on the same page and can grow on both personal and professional level whil working with people of different mindset.

What do you see as the greatest strengths of your college and how can it be enhanced?

Our foundation is the most important pillar of our strength and it was founded in 1964 and later was upgraded to a Degree College in 1966 and it gives immense happiness while telling that our very first batch itself was able to produce university level ranks. So, our well established education system, teaching staff and policies, kinds of education we offer to students along with management support and administration makes us strong and resilient altogether. Also, our first principal was Reverend K.C. Matthew and he was a person with international exposure and all his decisions were very much value-based and the values with which our college was founded, we are still following those.

In your opinion, what benefits can students gain from studying at Bishop Moore College?

Our college was started by the CSI Madhya Kerala Diocese which inherits a very rich legacy of the CMS missionaries. So by default, we have inherited a tradition which others can't calim easily because the CMS missionaries were the pioneers of education in the country. Apart from this, kind of quality we provide to each and every student is defined keeping in mind their future plans and existing skills, so scope of customisation is full here.

We also have many teachers in different departments who have received their education from countries like Canada, Kuwait and Germany. So we have an amazing team of highly educated and extensively experienced teachers to train students as per industry standards. So be it any domestic or international student, they will get wonderful learning and global networking opportunities by pursuing their dream courses with us.

How does the curriculum of your college ensure the best practices of industry?

As we are affiliated to University of Kerala, so we follow the curriculum designed and updated university only. But to cope up things that are left or missed out in that hard-coded curriculum, we have implemented the Outcome Based Education System in our college. So in each department whenever we deliver any lectures, beforehand the strategy and outcome which we need to achieve is planned thoroughly and we also design the questions paper of internal exams by considering the knowledge level of each students so that that defined outcome would be achieved easily.

What are your roles and responsibilities for the faculty and students of your institute?

Being a Principal, I personally feel that my role is more of a facilitator and guide than just an administrative position. Also, I am responsible for providing best quality education to my ambitious youths and making necessary changes in it as and when needed. Apart from this, resolving students queries with respect to possible career options and arranging them required training programs so that they can improve their professional personality also comes under the scope of my work.

What do you think should be your college's top priority over the next 10 years?

Our Bishop Moore College is ranked on 51st place all over the country and with the introduction of new education policy, our whole education system would be transformed and we all will observe major changes with respect to campus and policies, and shifting things seamlessly is our very first goal for the upcoming years. Also, our Physics and Chemistry Department of our college are doing good in terms of research and development, so our focus for coming years is to elevate and transform other departments like Malyalam, English, Economics and Botany in terms of research activities they conduct. Apart from this, we are also planning to offer M.Com course along with M.Sc. in Mathematics and Zoology to students.

What would you like people to know about your institution that makes it unique and different from others?

Our Bishop Moore College was established in 1964 and is situated in a remote area of Mavelikkara and as of now not known much outside the country or even State itself. But in the last 60 years, we have built an image for the institution and have risen to occupy a very important place in the education sector with everyone's hard work and dedicated support. And I would like to tell students that we work wholeheartedly to make your ambitions come true, so if you want to achieve best quality education and want to explore things on your own, Bishop Moore College will give you that freedom because we haven't laid down strict disciplines and follow good value system to improve and enhance students behaviour. Last but not the least, to add to oue strength, we have diverse range of students from different sections of society, culture and communities and all study happily here.

What biggest challenges do you see, both for higher education in general and for your college specifically?

As we all know that the government has recently introduced the New Education Policy, and I firmly believe that switching from traditional teaching practices to what is suggested in this policy will take time and also poses some challenges in front of other higher education institutions and our college as well. At present, we are offering 4-years duration Undergraduate courses and 2-years Postgraduate programs, and this policy ask to reduce the time frame of PG courses from 2 to 1 year, so definitely this transition will be little difficult as we need to change multiple things, make more efficient teaching methods so that 2-year content could be delivered in 1 year time frame. Apart from this, our college is relatively small in physical size, hence it's another limitation for us but the kind of education we deliver to going generation differentiate us from others and is the biggest reason why we are rated high in the country.

How do you establish a healthy relationship and environment in your college?

Our college has established a Democratic Students Union in which chairman and other office bearers are elected through a transparent presidential election process. And the prime responsibility of this union is to take care of students' academic and non-academic needs. Also, very cordial and healthy relationships exist between students, teachers, non-teaching staff and the Principal of our college and the credit goes mainly to regular, respectful and open communication. And ours is the very first college which started celebrating the floral carpet competition called ‘Onam AthaPooKalam Malsaram’ within educational institution premises. And this shows the secular outlook of our institution. In addition to this, we celebrate all cultural festivals on campus and also have an NSS and NCC unit to ensure overall professional development of students and train them to join the Indian Army. Similarly, we have a National Service Team to develop social commitments in students. Additionally, we have a very environmentally friendly campus, water harvesting park, variety of flora and fauna, solar parks, all of which adds to our strength. We also organize personality development sessions and a competition called Stars of Moor where we select 5 top students and reward them with various prizes and though only 5 students are ultimately selected as the star of Moore, hundreds of students participate in competition and go through the process, hence ultimately get to know where they are lacking and what else they need to improve with respect to communication skills.

So the opportunities we offer to students helps us to maintain good relations with them and between them and their teachers.

Any suggestions which you would like to give to the current youth and aspiring students?

I would like to advise my dear students and ambitious youths of our society to choose their career carefully and not restrict themselves to Engineering or Medical domain programs only. Also, explore the areas you are passionate and interested about and don't come under peer or parents pressure or monetary benefits. Because it is the combined effect of passion, interest and the inquisitiveness that determine successful career opportunities for people and money can be earned as well over time. Also, keep that spark of asking questions and learning new things alive and if you will choose a domain to only earn more money, over time you will get exhausted and your productivity will reduce too because your interest is not in that area. So choose a course where you can learn more, explore more and of course grasp things with full attention. Live your life to the fullest and keep enhancing your skills everyday.
