Placement Experience:

The eligibility criteria for getting the placement is you must have attendance of more than 75% and have a good CGPA in your academics. From the final year are from the 5th semester we are eligible to get the campus placement sum of the companies of biotech department for placements are IKS Infotech Lal path lab etc comes for placement program. Highest package in biotech b.sc was of 640000 and lowest was 2 lakhs . Most of the student do not take placement after BSc because they want to go for the highest studies like to do MSc. And I am also studying in MSC after my completion of b.sc.

Cul week is held in August. Academicia is held in December/January Cul-Ah is the biggest fest of our college and one of the biggest college fests in India and is held in February. We also have a sports day and a sports fest in January called Khel. There are 67 total associations in my college including music associations, subject-related associations, drama, dance and what not! We have a library in the college and also an E-InfoHub where we can find pretty much anything and everything that we are looking for and it's very easily accessible. The classrooms are well equipped with a projector, screen, smart board and a normal blackboard. Two-three NGOs are run by few of the students of our college and a travelling-based tourism start-up called 'Gulab Jamoon Experiences' is also run by the students of our college.

Faculty:

The teacher to student ratio in our college is 1:20 which I feel is pretty amazing. The faculty here is just top-notch. Most students in our class are outstation students and the teachers here don't let us feel that we are at a place away from home. They are really very amazing. Specially, my chemistry teacher, Mahesh sir and our German teacher, Surya Sir are one of the most amazing teachers I've ever been under. There are no teachers in the college whom I dislike. Every semester, there is going to be a mid-term test of 30 marks for all subjects known as CIA(continuous internal assessment) and after that they as re going to conduct pre final practical exams for practice.

Faculty:

There were lots of faculty in our department around 30 or more and the students per class are 55-60 . Faculty are very friendly and approachable and are ready to help us anytime. I learnt a lots of things from each teacher , they are extraordinary people. Like Ravi sir, Vipasha mam , Muskan mam, Akshara mam , Mohini mam, Jashanpreet mam. They helped me with the subjects a lot and cleared every concept, taught us lab experiments by standing near us. We had a final exam and in between we had 2 exams (Mid semester test) MST 1 and 2 which are quite easy and the final was a bit hard. Very less students failed.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Prior to FYUGP, my course i.e BSc. Biotechnology was a triple major course, which provided majors in Biotechnology, Chemistry and either of Zoology or Botany. However the new updated FYUGP curriculum, which calls for a more dynamic approach for teaching and learning, faces the criticism that the methods of teaching and learning still haven't changed, and the teachers and students are still unaware about how to make maximum use of its perks due to them being uneducated about the new curriculum. If done right, the new curriculum could be a game changer as it has deep real life applications over the previous curriculum which heavily relief in rot learning.

Campus Life:

Students are getting less enthusiastic in college activities over the years. However students have been provided with the opportunity to joined various clubs such as NCC, NSS, Nature club, SFS etc. The college heavily promotes sports and other extracurricular activities. Classrooms have been updated with the smart class technology. Library is quite extensive with plenty of reference books.

I got 15 % scholarship during the admission on the basis of cucet test, that is the chandigarh university scholarship test. Scholarship is also provided on the basis of percentage scored in class 12.When i joined the fee per semester was 62000 Rs per semester and it definitely get increased for new batches for an amount upto 15000 Rs. For me its continuosly been 62000 Rs per sem - my scholarship amount(15%). Also there is 2500 Rs Examination fee. You can score upto 50 percent scholarship in the cucet and get a seat of your choice in any branch. But twist is you have to be academically oriented to maintain the scholarship during 2nd and 3rd year. You have to maintain minimum 7.5 CGPA . If you score less than that your scholarship is gone. Chandigarh University also provides loan assistance for students who wants to pursue any UG, PG degree here in the campus. Along with ghat there are semester exchange programs as well, if you want to opt for that usually occurs during 5th and 6th sem.

Faculty:

Faculties are easily approchable, they are well trained and disciplined about their subject. Student to teacher ratio is 50:1, teacher explains topics thoroughly and also provide us with study material such as ppts, youtube tutorials, book references, etc. My favorite faculties in my department are Jashanpreet mam and Nanamika thakur mam they both teach concepts with application based approach, i gained deep knowledge in cell biology and Immunology because of these teachers. The faculties i disliked most are Sonia sisodiya mam and Anuj poonia sir because even after being highly educated they do not teach well at all and boast about their college from whi h they studied such as Anuj poonia sir always boast about his IIT degree but even after that he didn't taught a single concept well. There are 3 exams in one semester for academic subjects -Mst 1 , Mst 2,Final exams. And 2 Lab exams - Lab mst practical & final lab practicals.

Ques. Is KJ Somaiya Vidyavihar a good college for a BSc in biotechnology?

● Top Answer By Anirban Talukder on 08 Sept 21

Ans. KJ Somaiya is one of the best colleges, considered among the top management institutes. I can tell you that there are few criteria that are to be considered while choosing an institute for pursuing biotechnology. The branches of biotechnology are practically based. You will get hands-on training rather than receiving elaborate and theoretical studies. While choosing an institution, do check the laboratories, practical labs, and equipment they offer. Check the following table for some insight into the program: Categories B.Sc. in Biotechnology at KJ Somaiya Course Fee 38.88 K - 3.25 lakh Course Duration 3 years Average CTC 8-9 LPA I would suggest you do your side of the research and take a few points given in the data for assistance.Read more

Ques. I scored less then 50% in 12th boards can I get into private bsc biotechnology college

● Top Answer By Sanjana Kapoor on 14 Dec 23

Ans. The minimum eligibility requirement for BSc. Biotech at an Indian college is having passed 10th and 12th with Physics, Biology/Maths and Chemistry as core subjects, and at least 50% overall (45% for SC, ST) and 60% in each of the core subjects in the 12th boards. Both PCM and PCB candidates can opt for BSc. Biotech. Given that the eligibility criteria demands at least 50% in the 12th boards, it might not be possible for you to seek admission into BSc. Biotechnology at an Indian college. But I would advise you to go through the eligibility criteria of some of the private colleges by visiting their official website. Read more
