The sister concern of H. H. The Maharaja’s College, Thiruvananthapuram earlier, the new College named Government Arts Collegewas inaugurated on the 4th of July, 1924. Government of Kerala held the reins of the management of the college when the Kerala University Act was passed in the year 1964-65. Same year, the college introduced two year Pre-degree course. The college was later upgraded into a First Grade College. Thereafter, it was named Government Arts College in the year 28^th of July, 1971. The college boasts of eminent personalities as its students including the former President of India, Dr. K. R. Narayanan, the former Governor of Maharashtra, Dr. P. C. Alexander, the noted poet of Kerala, Sri Changampuzha Krishna Pillai, the well-known critic in Malayalam, Prof. S.Guptan Nair, Chairman, ISRO, Dr. G Madhavan Nair, Dr. M. S. Valliathan among others. At present, Government Arts College, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala is quite reputed and offers degree courses in Biotechnology, Physics, Commerce and Economics. In addition, the college offers post-graduate courses to students in Economics, Analytical Chemistry, Statistics, English and Analytical Chemistry.

The Life of Arts College

Very good library both in department and in the college

Admission:

Compared to other colleges, Govt Arts College had a peaceful atmosphere with friendly and approachable faculties. The college library was also good. I also applied for some other colleges in Kerala. But Arts college provided some benefits like experienced faculties.

Life of a Student

Likes

The campus is active all the time, you can see people in campus yard and class room at a time
It was calm and clean before the elevator work started. The work is going to end so it becomes calm and clean again
The architecture of the main building is such a classic one

Dislikes

The college is supposed to modernised . (. The problem with that is it's a heritage building. No extra works are allowed)

Eligibility: applicants must have passed the 12th grade or equivalent exam from a recognized board Admission to the course is merit-based The minimum eligibility requirement for all Kerala University UG admission is, candidates must pass 10+2 with a minimum of 45% marks in the relevant stream. The maximum age limit for admission to the UG programs shall be as follows as on 1st June of the academic year: For General / SEBC candidates - 23 years and For SC/ST candidates - 25 years. Application: Through Kerala University website Reservation: The seats for SC/ST candidates are reserved. ST candidates are eligible for reservation benefits regardless of their religion. Exam: The exam is conducted by Kerala University, which usually comes in 4-5 months, the exam is not too tough

Program conducted is another level of happiness
Ambience of our college. Its a heritage building so there are many things there.

Dislikes

Some strick due to parties. There is not a proper ground.

Admission:

Only after plus two passed students can apply through the university site and allotment based admission. There is no entrance examination for admission. Registration fee can paid along with application. Option are preferred only with our preference. We can take our course and college with our priorities. Admission and allotment only based on our plus two marks. Here I only pay around 6000 in admission time. After that i never pay any cash. Exam and lab fees are paid by the scholarship offered by the government. There is 6 semester in 3 yrs and 3 practical exams in even semesters. All the faculty and college members were greatly supporting and information are on time giving.

Arts college in all around

Admission:

Best college in tvm to pursue MA english in tvm. Better than other two famous colleges in Tvm central. Govt arts college stand out with an equillibrium maintained both in academics and other fields. Last year the first two ranks in MA English in kerala university is received by my seniors.

Placement Experience:

As out college has only Arts and commerce subjects there were no placement fairs or campus Recruitment in our college. There were job fairs and others outside our college usually conducted by other companies and multinational organisations. This was one of main problems faced by Arts & Commerce graduation students.
