Dr. Pravin Akula is the Head of the ECE Department at Bonam Venkata Chalamayya Engineering College. He holds a Ph.D. degree from PRIST University, Thanjavur. He has an overall experience of 21 years in the teaching field. He has published 49 journals in national and international journals. He has published a book on “Space-time Block Codes for Wireless Applications” with LAMBERT Academic Publishing.

You have held key positions at education institutes throughout your professional career. What are the key factors that keep you connected with the education sector?

I can certainly provide insights into why I am working in the education sector. I would like to give some key factors that often keep educators connected to the education sector. Some of the key factors include Passion for Learning, Impact on Lives, Intellectual Stimulation, Innovation and Creativity Continuous Learning, Collaboration, Personal Fulfillment, Variety of Roles, Social Impact, and Global Perspective.


Being the HOD of ECE what is your philosophy of leadership? How would you describe your leadership style?

Leadership philosophy is a set of guiding principles and beliefs that shape a leader’s approach to their role. For the Head of Department (HOD) of Electronics and Communication Engineering, my leadership philosophy includes a Student-Centric Approach, Faculty Empowerment, Transparency and Communication, Innovation and Adaptability, Collaboration, Ethical Leadership, Diversity and Inclusion, Strategic Planning, Leadership Style, Leadership style refers to how a leader approaches decision-making, communication, and interaction with team members. As a Head of the Department of ECE, my leadership styles are Transformational Leadership, Collaborative Leadership, Democratic Leadership, Communication-Centric Leadership, and Strategic Leadership.


The education systems in India and other foreign countries are structured very differently. In your experience, what can an inbound student gain from studying here in your institute?

An inbound student of B.V.C Engineering College can receive Quality Education from our long-standing well-qualified faculty with a diverse learning environment. Another important feature of our institution is our fee structure (tuition & hostel) is quite affordable for the common man also. Through our Training & Placement cell, we regularly offer Internships with fellowship to enhance the skill set of our students. Our students always materialize their innovative ideas through Idea Club, and Institute Innovation Council (IIC) funded by internal and external agencies. Because of the different geographical backgrounds students, our students have more intercultural familiarity and are well-known in different Indian and foreign languages. In the present Globalized world language skills are essential. For that, we have an MOU with the Cambridge Assessment Council sponsored by Cambridge University for improving students’ communication skills and also we have a Foreign Language Cell to introduce foreign languages by well-learned veteran trainers. Every year more than 60+ MNC organizations associate with our college for campus drive with flying colour packages.


How does the curriculum of your Department ensure the best practice of the industry?

The curriculum of an Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) department aligns with the best practices of the industry, and several strategies and principles follow with a regular curriculum review every three years by an Academic Advisory Board with industry–academic experts. As per the NEP 2020, we always give flexibility to students to choose their optional subjects and we frame our syllabus with the concept of inter-discipline. Our academic schedule is prepared according to that. Because of our Strong academic–industry connections, we came to know the recent technical advancements and we offer the same to our students apart from their regular academics like AWS, Service Now Cambridge English Assessment, etc. By implementing these strategies our curriculum remains relevant and aligned with the industry's best practices, producing graduates who are well-prepared to meet the evolving demands of the electronics and communication engineering sector.

What do you think should be the Institute’s top priority over the next five years?

Our institution’s top priority over the next five years is to become a leading technical institute with University status and we plan to adopt new cutting-edge technological advances with Interdisciplinary Collaboration through Research and Innovation. We already have collaboration with Diversity and Inclusion, Global Engagement, Ethical and Social Responsibility, Career Development, Community Engagement, Student Well-being, Alumni Engagement, and Financial Sustainability. These priorities reflect the evolving landscape of engineering education and the need to prepare students for a rapidly changing world.


What do you see as your Institute’s greatest strengths?

Our institution is the first private engineering college in the East Godavari District of United Andhra Pradesh with 26 years of excellence, running successfully with 100% admissions and 100% placements by well-qualified long-standing experience faculty with state-of-the-art facilities. All our students have facilities accessible with modern equipped laboratories on cutting edge technologies like Robotics, AI lab, and so on. We are having MOUs with the Centre of Excellence – Virtusa, MOVATE, Huawei, Service Now, AWS Academy, Oracle Academy, Salesforce, etc, We are having foreign collaboration with the Indo-German ARC laboratory. Through our annual Cultural & Sports National Level Youth Festivals, we offer Intercultural familiarity to our students.


What would you like people to know about your college they may not know?

We are having Diverse Specializations with innovation hubs through Dr. B.V. Rajesh Research and Innovation Centre received crores of rupees as funding. We are having a Global Collaborations with Industry and Academia also. We always encourage Entrepreneurship concepts through the active Institution Innovation Council to prepare tomorrow’s technocrats as an entrepreneur. We have chapters of professional organizations like IEEE, ASME, or ACM, allowing students to network with professionals and stay updated on industry trends. We always encourage student clubs for leadership, teamwork, and community involvement. Continuing Education is the part of our BVC academics. Apart from our regular curriculum, we offer skill development courses from Service Now, NPTEL, Cambridge Assessment, AWS, and so on. Our Alumni settled in nook and corner of the world as Entrepreneurs, Industry Experts, Software Professionals, and public sector employees and we proudly share our alumni contributions to Chandrayan – 3 projects. They are our greatest strength. These are just a few aspects of our college that people may not be aware of but can greatly enrich the educational experience and career opportunities for students. Our students are from different geographical backgrounds like Nepal, Bhutan, Africa, and North East part of India. This helps us to familiarize ourselves with different diversified cultural identities.
