The course here is heavy. You have to learn mathematics thrice as the other bachelor courses in India, statistics is twice as the other bachelor's degree and the physics courses here are equivalent to the courses in a normal bachelor's degree and CS courses are quite similar to what is studied in IIT in first two years. And one has to do all these courses within 3 years here. So the curriculum is heavier than any other university in India. But the positive part is we get to learn so much. We are efficient enough for mathematics, statistics, and CS jobs and of course research jobs. If one can handle the pressure it's amazing.

Course curriculum is in depth, detailed and the faculty is great, they introduce topics as they are supposed to. All the faculties are PhD holders and research professionals too. Exams are in 2-3 months frequency and require consistent efforts to pass

Mathematics has always been my passion. However, in today's world, applications are as important as theory. After all, "theory will only take you so far :). That's why I opted for a Statistics Course. The faculty-to-student ratio is excellent. Every student gets personalised attention and almost everyone on campus knows everyone else. Most of our professors have Ph. D.s from Ivy League universities like Stanford, UC Berkley, etc. Almost all did their undergraduate study in ISI. Term exams are no joke here at ISI. If you do not study throughout the semester, you WILL fail( event happens with probability= 1).
It has large and diverse faculty group with lots of assistant and associate professors. M.Tech has two years curriculum like other PG courses. Cryptology and cyber security program has a good balance between theoretical and practical course.
There is benefit of need based financial assistance for deserving candidates. Educational loan may be available from banks and other educational institutions. Government and private both category scholarships are found here.
INR 50000 is the total fees for the post graduate programme. Scholarships are provided on the basis of merit and family income. Students are also eligible for performance based scholarships and free ships also.
Reason for choosing the course: I wished to study statistics and the B.Stat.+M.Stat. courses offered by the Indian Statistical Institute (ISI), Kolkata is considered to be one of the best courses in statistics in India. That is why I decided to opt for this course. Qualification of faculty: Atleast PhD is a must for every faculty.Frequency of exams: Mid semester and end semester are held for every subjects. Professors in some courses may take class tests(graded) also.Difficulty of exams: One may face open ended questions. Exact answers are not expected but an outline of the solution will suffice. Rarely questions from past years get repeated in exams. I would rate the average overall difficulty of the questions 8.5 out of 10. However the difficulty mainly depends on the faculty.
I was always interested in pure mathematics and wanted to explore the subject more. I had a keen interest in several topics like Number Theory, Algebra and this course seemed perfect for me to carry on with my goals. We have 5 teachers for a class of 30 so the ratio is around 1:6. All the faculties have completed their PhDs in their respective subjects and are extremely talented. Some of them have won several national and international accolades. We have semester exams at the end of every semester. Each semester lasts for 4 months. In between the course, we have weekly assignments and homework. The semester exams are of moderate difficulty level but require out of the box thinking. The assignments and Homeworks are not to difficult but are meant to keep up with the pace of the class.
The course has a perfect balance of pure and applied mathematics. It also includes statistics, computer science, and physics. It leaves us with a lot of options for future. The faculty: student ratio is too high, something like 1:20. I believe that is what makes ISI differ from other colleges. We get a lot of teacher attention. Not only that we get to learn under the top mathematicians of India. The teaching method is also quite nice. We are taught with chalk and blackboard which seems to ideal for mathematics. The exams are timely taken. We even have regular homework and quizzes. Yes it may be difficult to pass but a mathematics lover will enjoy the process.
In a word the course curriculum is just advance from other college for stat in India, they provide the word best faculty, the yearly stipend is around 40k for bachelors student which is help ur and study and encourage you, the semester based exam held on every 6 monts later, after completed the course you have a great idea about stat.
According to some of my friends from ISI Kolkata said it does offer undergraduate courses B.Stat or B.Math. Let me tell you some courses in detail for better insight.
Indian Statistical Institute offers the following two bachelor programs:
3-year B Stat (Honors):
3-year B Math (Honors):
Therefore, according to my friends, apart from these two undergraduate courses, ISI does not offer any other Bachelor Programs.
