Monash University Eligibility for Indian Students
Monash sets one institution-wide academic floor for each level and an English-language floor, with several programs (Nursing, Education, Medicine, Law) requiring higher scores. Indian boards are accepted as direct entry, so the Monash College Foundation Year is not mandatory if the Class XII percentage meets the cut-off below.
What Class XII percentage does Monash need?
- Undergraduate entry: Class XII at 78.5 percent (CBSE / AISSC) or 72.5 percent (ICSE / ISC) is the headline floor.
- Postgraduate entry: Recognised Bachelor’s at 65 percent or higher in a related discipline.
- Programs with raised cut-offs: Pharmacy and Medicine often look for 85 percent plus relevant Class XII subjects.
- Prerequisite subjects: Engineering and IT need Mathematics at Class XII, Pharmacy and Biomed need Chemistry plus Biology.

Monash IELTS Waiver for Indian Students
Monash allows an English exemption if you have completed your most recent qualification in English in a recognised country, including India when the institution teaches and assesses entirely in English. Submit a Medium of Instruction (MOI) letter on institutional letterhead from your Indian university to claim this waiver during application. The exemption applies to most coursework programs at the Bachelor’s and Master’s level. Nursing, Education, and Medicine remain mandatory IELTS or equivalent because clinical and teaching placements demand verified speaking and writing scores. Confirm your specific course on the official Monash English language requirements page before lodging the waiver.
Monash University PG Programs

The Monash Business School MBA at the Caulfield campus runs as a flexible coursework program with rolling intake into Semester 1 (March) and Semester 2 (July). Indian applicants enter via the work-experience route after a Bachelor’s in engineering, commerce, science, or related fields. Application dates and structure are listed on the official Monash MBA application page.
Monash MBA Experience and Academic Floor
- Bachelor’s: Recognised three or four-year degree at 65 percent or higher.
- Work experience: Minimum 3 years full-time, with at least 1 year of managerial or supervisory work.
- GMAT or GRE: Not required, the CV and references carry weight.
- Average cohort experience: About 9 years, so mid-career profiles are competitive.
- English: IELTS 6.5 overall (no band below 6.0) or TOEFL iBT 79.
What does the Monash MBA interview test?
Shortlisted applicants are invited to an informal interview with the MBA Director, run online for Indian candidates. The interview tests career clarity, leadership stories from the CV, and reasons for choosing Monash over peer Australian MBAs. Expect a single 30 to 45 minute round, scheduled within 2 to 4 weeks of submitting a complete file.
Per-course tuition and scholarship cuts for the Monash MBA sit on the dedicated program page. Plan for fees above the standard coursework Masters band given the executive-track delivery.
Planning note: Aim to submit the Semester 1 (March 2027) MBA application by 30 November 2026 to allow interview scheduling, offer issue, deposit, and visa processing before the cohort starts.
Monash University PhD Admission
The Monash research doctorate is open for applications year-round, but funding rounds run on a fixed calendar that drives most international applications. Indian applicants secure a supervisor first, then submit via the myApp portal alongside the scholarship application in a single combined step, per the official Monash graduate research scholarships page.
Monash PhD Scholarship and Stipend
The Monash Graduate Scholarship (MGS) for international students covers full tuition plus a living allowance of AUD 37,145 per annum (around INR 24.24 Lakhs) for the 2026 academic year, a one-off relocation allowance of AUD 2,000 (around INR 1.31 Lakhs), and a research allowance of AUD 1,500 per year (around INR 97,905). Most international offers also bundle single Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC). For the wider list of departmental and external funding options, refer to the funding options for Indian students.
Monash PhD Round Dates 2026 to 2027
- Round 1: Opens 1 September 2026, closes 31 March 2027.

- Supervisor contact: Approach 8 to 10 weeks before the round deadline.
- Decision timeline: Allow 8 to 12 weeks from full submission to outcome.
Insider note: Round 1 is the strongest funding window because most Faculty research-quota slots are allocated before Round 2 opens. Indian applicants targeting STEM doctorates should align their proposal and supervisor contact with this round.
Monash University Application Process
Indian applicants apply directly via the Monash myApp online portal at myapp.monash.edu, with most decisions issued within 2 to 4 weeks of a complete file. The process below applies to UG, PG coursework, and PhD applicants, with PhD adding a supervisor approach step before submission.

- Apply for the student visa: Use the CoE to lodge the subclass 500 application with Australia’s Department of Home Affairs.
Monash Admission Decision Timeline
Coursework UG and PG offers typically issue within 2 to 4 weeks of a complete file. Medicine, Pharmacy, and PhD take 6 to 12 weeks. Conditional offers state the missing item (often the final transcript or English score). Deferral by one semester is allowed before CoE issuance for most coursework programs, with a written request to the Monash Admissions office.
Monash University Documents Required
The myApp portal accepts scanned uploads of every document below. Original certified copies are required only after offer acceptance, when arranging the visa lodgement with Australia’s Department of Home Affairs.

Monash University Acceptance Rate
Monash does not publish a single institutional acceptance rate, but third-party tracking puts the figure at around 40 percent across all international applications. The number sits firmly in the Group of Eight band and tracks the Monash ranking band in the global top 40.
What programs are the hardest to crack at Monash?
Medicine, Pharmacy, and Law sit below the institutional band, with offer rates closer to 15 to 25 percent for international applicants. Engineering and IT track at higher offer rates because the cohort expands every year to meet Australian skilled-occupation demand, particularly in software, data, and cybersecurity streams.
Monash Admit Profile for Indian Students
Successful Indian Bachelor applicants typically present Class XII at 85 percent plus and IELTS 7.0. PG applicants who clear the file usually carry a 70 percent plus Bachelor’s from an NIRF top-100 institution. Work experience adds weight for Business, Analytics, and MBA applications, and a clean SOP that names the supervisor or specialisation lifts borderline files.
Insider note: The 40 percent figure is institution-wide. For competitive Indian applicants reaching the offer stage in Engineering or IT, the effective rate is closer to 60 percent if academic credentials clear the 80 percent band.
Australia Student Visa for Monash
Indian applicants enter Australia on the Student visa (subclass 500), lodged online with the Department of Home Affairs after Monash issues the Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE). The application charge is AUD 2,000 (around INR 1.31 Lakhs) as of July 2025, and India sits at Evidence Level 3 since January 2026, meaning manual verification of every financial and academic document.
Financial proof must cover first-year tuition, return travel of AUD 2,000 to 3,000 (around INR 1.31 Lakhs to INR 1.96 Lakhs), Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) of AUD 600 to 1,000 per year (around INR 39,162 to INR 65,270), and the living cost benchmark of AUD 29,710 per year (around INR 19.39 Lakhs). Allow 8 to 12 weeks from CoE to visa grant. Once you land in Melbourne, register with Monash Connect, activate OSHC at the partner provider, and complete biometric enrolment before classes begin.
2026 update: Sanctioned education-loan letters from SBI, Bank of Baroda, HDFC Credila, or Prodigy Finance satisfy the visa financial test when the sanction amount covers tuition plus the AUD 29,710 (around INR 19.39 Lakhs) living benchmark.

Campus atmosphere and services offered. Dedicated sports and fitness services alongside of the technical activities as well if one is interested. There are opportunities available to socialize with like minded folks and gain insights to pursue different career paths and/or jobs amongst other things.

- Location of the university is almost half hour away from the city that is probably the most disliked point. Lack of human element in various processes, like there are many instances when you are supposed to do a certain aspect of activity and due to its digital nature you might not understand it completely well at the same time if there were a human element involved it would prove a lot more beneficial.

Overall, it would say it was good and refreshing, especially as an international graduate. Though, facilities could've been handled well during COVID, the on-campus classes and labs would have to be the major takeaway when it came to academics. Events would always be there Year round, so there's no shortage of freebies to look for.
