Campus Life

  • There are 4 campuses of Monash University in Melbourne itself. Libraries, sports, medical, clubs, fitness, food, etc. are available on every campus. There are plenty of them. Study rooms, presentation and breakout rooms are available for smooth studies.
  • Student hubs are available with all the facilities for students to study 24/7.
  • Monash Clayton campus has Wednesday sessions that happen every Wednesday, 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm, where students gather to relax and enjoy some snacks and music organised by the university.

  • Monash has four campuses in Australia and one in Malaysia. My campus is the second largest, which is the Caulfield campus. With a big library and a lot of study spaces spread across the campus, medical facilities are available on normal times and they are helpful enough to refer to insurance, including doctors around Melbourne.
  • There are opportunities for all kinds of sports and clubs. The O-week is great at the main campus, Clayton, and good for my campus as well; there are parties at different festivals throughout the semester.

  • The campus is good, and we have a good campus life at our university. We have a library at our university, and you will be able to access various books and resources for studies and research. Also, you have good sports facilities, and sports events also happen. Fests are also great, we can enjoy with our friends, there will be karaoke night, moonlight cinema and stuff.

My college has 4 locations. They are in Waterloo (where I go), Brantford, Milton, and Kitchener. My campus has a library, a wellness centre, around 4-5 study areas (from large halls to medium sized rooms), 2 fields, and a gym which has swimming pools, basketball and volleyball courts, and a badminton court. Homecoming football game is the most popular event at my university, but there are multiple other events that keep happening over the time. They are all shared on different instagram accounts managed by the university and also through a newsletter There are too many events which happen here and there, but the one which I like the most are the intramural sports which the university has. Intramural sports consists off sports competitions like football, volleyball, badminton, basketball, table tennis, frizbee etc. I participated in 7 man football event and badminton doubles. These intramural sport events start at the start of every term so it goes on throughout the year.

Overview

Overall, it would say it was good and refreshing, especially as an international graduate. Though, facilities could've been handled well during COVID, the on-campus classes and labs would have to be the major takeaway when it came to academics. Events would always be there Year round, so there's no shortage of freebies to look for.

There are multiple events and extracurricular activities as part of the Monash campus life. From clubs, tech groups to hostel groups, casual sport fans, country based groups, you name it.

Overview

My overall experience was fruitful and worth the buck as I bagged a role within 2 weeks of graduation. This was because I worked towards employment right from day one of University. It is not easy to get jobs as an international student. But with the right mindset, hard work, and making the best use all the resources at my university, I have now carved my own path and career in Australia.

Monash is the largest University by size and student number in Australia. So there are abundant opportunities for both academic and social clubs. Sporting infrastructure, Library, Study Areas, Classrooms, and everything else that one can think of is world class.

Monash University allows students to work for both casual and part-time job opportunites while studying in Australia. Students are suggested to work not more than 15 hours a week, if they are a full-time Monash University student. It is considered that working more than 15 hours may affect the balance pf studying while working. However, it is suggeted to go through Australian study visa guidelines for better understanding the duration for which the specific visa type allows you to work. As per the guidelines, an international student with a visa is not allowed to work more than 40 hours a fortnight. Where fortnight is 14 days as of starting on Mondays.

Australia is a great place to work-while study. Here is why:

  • Work place protection offered to international students is same as that offered to any Australian.
  • Irrespective of your job you will be offered a minimum wage pay rate on an hourly basis as per the guidelines of the Australian Government.
  • A strong support is offered to international student workers by both education institute, as well as government and private organizations.

In case planning for holiday work, you can work for unlimited hours. Details on holiday work may vary depending on the Australian student visa subclass. You can search for more information through the immigrations website of the county.

Jobs for Student Program is a specific program at the university for students looking for earn-while-learn opportunitie while pursuing studies at the university. The program majorly offers casual jobs that can help in building employability skills and give you a kick start in your career. The types of jobs available under the program include:

  • Marketing Assistant
  • Service Desk Officer
  • Research Assistant

All it takes for registering for the program is uploading your resume here. Once you have uploaded your resume for Monash’s Jobs for student program wait for an opportunity to arise and connect with the Jobs for students team as soon as one arises.

Monash Univeristy offers an online databases “Career Gateway- an online job portal of Monash”. One can log-in with their Monash account in the portal and find out about the part-time and casual job vacancies. Apart from the univeristy portal, you can also look for jobs through local newpapers, local shopping and business centers, general recruitment agencies, and with the hidden job market.

Hence, it can be concluded that international students who secure admissions with Monash University are offered a fair opportunity to earn-while they learn. Additionally, students looking for voluntary jobs are also offered a plethora of opportunities to work with a variety of charity and non-government organizations.
