Common areas include study rooms, recreational lounges, and laundry facilities. Some hostels also have attached bathrooms or shared bathroom facilities on each floor. It often includes a mix of local and international cuisine, with vegetarian and non-vegetarian options available. For the first year I was alloted the Gokhale Hall of Residence. The rooms provided were majorly triple sharing whereas some rooms were double sharing and four-sharing too. The rooms were just enough to satisfy your day to day needs and there is no expectation of luxury in these rooms. Most of the hostels have common washrooms but luckily I had attached washroom. The mess is below average and you should not keep minimal expectations from the mess food. Although, the registration process for the hostel is pretty smooth and its just a 10 minute paper work. The hostel fees for a whole semester is approximately 30,000 which is pretty affordable according to me.

Depending upon the hall which are randomly allocated, one can get a single room or shared room of 2, 3 or 4 students. In most halls, there are both single and shared rooms where single rooms are generally alloted to seniors. We get a bed, table, chair, working fan and led light. There is a good amount of storage section in rooms. The facilities provide in hall are appropriate , there is a common room for indoor games like table tennis, billiards, carrom etc. There is an interaction room for meetings. There are cricket, badminton, football and volleyball grounds. The mess food is neutral. Some days the menu is good and some days is bad, but it actually depends on the person. The menu is decide monthly by all students in mess meeting based on votes. There was no such registration process for halls, it was alloted by Hall Management Center,IIT Kharagpur. The hostel and mess fees are affordable.
Out of 20 hostels, the size of rooms in every hostel is different. The best rooms are available in

The worst hostels in terms of facilities are Patel, Azad, and Nehru. The rooms of these hostels were initially made for 2 students each but now they have become triple room occupancy.
PG students are allotted the MMM, BR Ambedkar, and VS Hall of residence. The BR Ambedkar Hall of residence has the best facilities and rooms among all the three halls of residence.

SN Hall
The Hall firmly believes in its motto: Sanskrita Striya Shakti. Some highlights of this Hall are
MT Hall
This hall is similar in almost all aspects to SN Hall. Specifically talking about girls, the hostels are safe and there is a sense of freedom like no other.
Most MTech and Ph.D. female students are assigned the following hostels
All these hostels are in close proximity to the main building and entrance thus making it easy for female students to commute to and fro from the hostel.
A typical room in these halls of residence consists of proper bedding, a table, a chair, and a LAN port. Every hostel has its own mess faculty that works under the supervision of the hall management committee or private contractor.
