How's Hindustan University, Chennai?

Kalyani ShankarStudied at Hindustan University (2020)

I am a student of B.Tech CSE at Hindustan University, pursuing a specialization in IBM cloud computing and virtualization.

The CSE department is quite good. All its professors are friendly and supportive. The university focuses a lot on extracurriculars, even more than the academics. A number of workshops and events are regularly organized on campus.

If you abide by the rules and regulations, you won’t face any trouble from the authorities. You will be offered a nurturing environment and ample growth opportunities.

Hindustan University is a good choice for a CSE, given that you participate in events and make use of all the opportunities.

What is your review of Hindustan University?

Mehar SrivastavB.Tech Aerospace and Aeronautical Engineering, Hindustan University (2019)

Overall, Hindustan University is average at best.

  • The quality of education offered is not good. Most faculty members are fresh graduates and don’t have much experience.
  • The institute doesn’t have a good infrastructure. Although the institute claims to offer a good Aeronautical or Aerospace program, they don’t have good facilities or faculties to back up the claim. Besides a subsonic wind tunnel and four broken-down plans, the department offers zero facilities.
  • Hindusthan University fees are pretty steep. The B.Tech Aeronautical Engineering program costs around INR 14.39 Lakhs
  • The institute doesn’t offer any internships or co-op opportunities to students. The placement opportunities offered aren’t worth the high course fee.

The college lacks basic amenities that are essential for the overall growth of the students.

How is Hindustan University for aerospace engineering?

Anita MukherjeeB.Tech in chem. Eng. from Hindustan University (2020)

One of my friends studies at Hindustan University. So, I know a little bit about the institute.

Hindustan University is recognized as a great platform for Aerospace Engineering. But the institute owes its reputation to the students who go out of their way to excel in academics without much help from the institute.

According to my friend’s experience, the institute does not offer support of any kind, be it lab equipment, leniency in attendance, or time.

  • The institute charges high fines for low attendance.
  • It also has a dress code for the laboratory which is quite uncomfortable. According to authority, it is for the protection of the students. However, there are either computer-related laboratory works or lectures, so there is actually no need for uncomfortable uniforms.
  • Also, students are not allowed to use most of the equipment in the laboratory. According to authorities, it could be potentially dangerous.

Overall, at Hindustan University you won’t have many facilities, placement offers, or any kind of support. So, it would be better to opt for other options.

How is Hindustan University?

Radhika SharmaStudied at Hindustan University (2020)

Hindustan University is an excellent platform for your growth and development. Apart from providing you with a degree, it will also ensure that you become a skilled engineer.

  • Faculty- The faculty is mostly supportive. They will encourage you to take up projects, and not be stuck with just textbook learning. There are mostly young teachers.
  • Innovation Cell- There is an innovation cell at the University that encourages innovative ideas within the students. Since its inception, the college has witnessed around five new startups. Events are hosted regularly by this cell, and distinguished speakers are invited. They will help you grab internships, regardless of which year you belong to.
  • Hostel- Hostel facilities are a bit lacking. The mess food takes some time to get used to.
  • Extracurriculars- The university has five horses which take part in competitions regularly. Horse riding classes are held at 6 in the morning. Apart from hostel facilities, every other facility is good, and at par with what has been mentioned in the university website.
  • Vigilance Officers- They are like the police officers of the university. If you abide by university rules, they won’t trouble you in any form.

Hindustan University is mainly known for three branches- Mechanical, Aerospace and Aeronautical. The university is good and you can definitely consider it for your studies.

How are placements at Hindustan university?

Kalyani ShankarStudied at Hindustan University (2020)

As a student of Hindustan University, I will be presenting the ground reality of placements at my institution.

For tech placements, mass recruiters like Infosys and Tech Mahindra visit the campus and recruit graduating students in large numbers. Other than them, BPO and KPO based companies present job offers. These job profiles aren’t at par with an engineering degree. For branches like mechanical, civil, automobile, aerospace, aeronautical, etc., no core companies visit the campus.

Thus, the placement scenario isn’t good at Hindustan University. I would recommend you rather join CSE at K.C.G. college of engineering, which is a Hindustan Group college. It has the same placement scenario, but at least a more affordable fee structure.

How can you get admission in Sathyabama University and Hindustan University?

Shambhavi SharmaLives in Chennai

As a B.Tech CSE student at Sathyabama University, I can tell you about my branch and my university.

I got in through management quota, the other way is entrance. I booked my seat before my 12th result by paying 50k and providing my 10th marksheet. For this, I visited the university in March after my public exam. After your 12th result, you can visit and confirm your seat. You’ll get in even with low marks in class 12th. The fee is around 2 Lakhs per year, but the infrastructure and other facilities are good.

Through entrance, you’ll need a rank below 3000. Still, it isn’t sure that you’ll get CSE. CSE seats are completely filled in the first counseling round itself. My friend acquired 1600 rank, but couldn’t get into CSE. Getting in through entrance is extremely difficult due to high competition. Take this route only if you are sure of ranking high in the exam.

This is how you can get into Sathyabama University for your CSE. I do not know about the admission process in Hindustan University.

Which college is better, CBIT, SRM or HITS (Hindustan University)?

Kirti DasLives in Chennai

I don't know much about CBIT and Hindustan University. But I won’t recommend you the NCR campus of SRM.

It is in fact not located in the National Capital Region. It is situated in Modinagar (Sikrikalan to be precise). The management of this college is very poor. You’ll be wasting a lot of energy for simple requests like getting statements attested, acquiring a recommendation letter, getting fee refunds, etc.

I studied CSE over there. The faculty for CSE is considered to be the best. However, in reality, most teachers don’t even have an idea of their specialization. You’ll find that the same teacher is taking classes for various specializations like Data Structures, Mobile Computing, Theory of Computation, Compiler, etc. New ideas aren’t encouraged in the classroom.

The hardware in CSE labs is top notch, but the software is all outdated. The hostels are decent but the mess food is disappointing. The hostel wardens do minimum to maintain discipline. For placements, you’ll have to travel all the way to Chennai, with no support from the management, and no accommodation facilities.

Thus, do not choose the NCR campus of SRM University, especially for the CSE program.

What are the rules in Hindustan University, Chennai?

Radhika SharmaStudied at Hindustan University (2020)

Hindustan University is lenient in comparison to other institutions in Chennai. But there are some rules that you should follow as its student-

  1. Always wear your identity card inside the campus. Otherwise, you’ll be caught by the vigilance officers. Without an id card, you won’t be entitled as a student of this university.
  2. You can bring your vehicles inside the campus. However, be sure to wear a helmet.
  3. This is quite obvious, do not use your phone while the teacher is taking a lecture. Also, don’t use your phone when standing near Java Green. Your phone will be taken by vigilance people, and it won’t be returned easily.
  4. Return your library book within the allotted time. Otherwise, you’ll have to pay a fine.
  5. A minimum of 75% attendance is required to appear in the semester exam. But even if you have around 50% attendance, you can appear in the exam after paying a fine.

Students usually don’t take the rules seriously. However, I would recommend you follow these basic rules to not get into any trouble.

Which university is better for aerospace engineering - SRM, Anna, or Madras Institutes of Technology, or Hindustan University?

Prerona Datta
Siddant GuptaStudied at Madras Institute of Technology, Tamil Nadu, India

Madras Institute of Technology is under Anna University. These two aren’t separate. If you want good job profiles with cushy salary packages, after completing your degree, MIT isn’t a good option. Not many core companies visit the campus drive for recruitment. Although placements in the non-core sector are good. MIT offers good academics and you can benefit from the institute if you are aiming to pursue higher studies. The course fee is nominal. The course costs around INR 1.58 lakhs.

SRM is a good option if infrastructure is your priority. Although the university fees are a little higher.

What is the placement record like at Hindustan University for aerospace engineering?

Raghubeer RaoStudied Aerospace and Aeronautical Engineering at Hindustan University

One of my cousins is an alumnus at Hindustan University. Not many of his batchmates are working as Aerospace Engineers. Most of them were placed in IT companies through campus placements. The very few who are actually working in a field related to Aerospace Engineering made it there through their own efforts.

The placement report published by the university is as follows:

Academic Year

Total Number of Offers

Percentage of Placement

Number of Companies

2018-19

456

78.75%

77

2017-18

514

78.59%

50

2016-17

485

77.84%

75

In the academic year of 2018-19, for the department of aerospace engineering, 22 students registered for placement out of which 15 got placed.

A large number of software companies hire from this university. If your only concern is placement, then this might not be the best college for you because the university does not ensure 100% placement.
