The 5 year Integrated MSc in Applied Physics curriculum at CUJ is splendid on paper. The syllabus is geared towards Nuclear physics, Material Sciences, and Photonics as most of the faculty are from these fields. The implementation of the syllabus however is subpar. Although most of the faculty are very qualified going by their qualifications but the teaching is usually below average. There are some brilliant and inspiring teachers who are not only highly qualified but also excellent teachers. Some of them have left the university in recent years due to variou reasons. The faculty to student ratio is good, although the quality of faculty has gone down in recent years. Each semester has three sessional exams and one final semester exam. These exams are essentially regurgitating type with mostly asking derivations and numericals that are repeated from previous year papers. The exams are conducted on time and are easier to pass by rote learning.
I have been a science student and I like physics that's why I chose B.Sc. physics, The faculty of KMC was well educated and in good proportion to the students, the teaching method was also highly professional and very easy to understand. The exams are conducted timely and the question paper levels were ranging between easy, moderate to little tough but overall always from the syllabus.
The course is very tough,in my 1st semester there was 9 papers, and for each paper there was 3 internal exams. I choose this cource because i love physics, for the backup college that I have filled the form I have chosen the same subject, I wanted to do something in physics, there is only 40 seats available for each course and for them there is requisite faculties available, all the faculities are highly qualified and experienced, in my department all faculties are PhD from renowned Colleges such as IIT Bombay, Delhi, Kanpur, kharagpur etc some of the faculities have PhD from Germany and Portugal and each of them have unique teaching style, they are very supportive in our laboratory work, there notes are like simplified version of the erodov, the terminal examinations are very tough, there are 3 internal exams for each paper, and their best of two got counted on final semester exams, they check our vast are of imagination and creativity in those terminal examinations.
I am in M.Sc. . Syllabus does not cover all topics of NET syllabus . For some subjects the syllabus is huge e.g. Quantum mechanics syllabus seems like two semester syllabus. Industrial exposure is negligible , but I have heard that students of Chinese language and MBA get placements. Hardly I have heard about other coarse students. Professors are highly qualified in physics department , some are good in teaching and some are not . I think Dr. Avijit Ghosh sir and our HOD Dr. Sarang Medhekar sir are very good teachers .
The fee structure of the university is very low if you compare with the private colleges. For basic science courses per semester tution fee is only 7000 RS. for MBA and engineering courses it is nearly 12000 RS per semester. Which is still very much lower than other institutions.
The fee structure is based on Central University norms. As this University is funded and runned by the government of India, so you don't have to pay a very expensive fee. And of course you can easily get loans from the banks.
